UPDATE: Poke-Families & Katrina

We previously posted on the Hurricane Katrina thread about the Schells hosting the Langensteins at their home, and also the Lynches who stayed at a nearby motel but spent the days at the Schells playing Pokemon to pass the time away and keep their minds off things....

Well, we've spoken to Mike Schell and Nancy Lynch...

Mike says all is well with his family. They are hoping to get power and water soon, and their home did not sustain much damage other than a few roof shingles blown away.

Rick and his family left for their home yesterday, not really knowing what to expect when they get there. There's still no news from them, but at least we know that the family is safe because they weathered the storm at the Schells.

The Lynches have left and are headed for family in Florida. They're planning on leaving the kids there, and then Dana and Nancy will head back to see what's left of their home. Again, at least the family is safe, and that is certainly most important, but our hearts really go out to them -- not just because of what they might find when they return home, but because of everything they've had to go through. Same with the Langensteins.

I know Katrina's moved on, but let's continue to keep them all in our thoughts and in our prayers.

Nice to hear that everyone is safe and sound. I received a CNN update saying that New Orleans will be suffering loss of life in the hundreds, so it's good to know that my friends are okay

Best wishes and best of luck to all who suffered from Katrina in one way or another.

Think of it, 80% of New Orleans, is covered in water, it hard to tell how they city will be back to normal, months to even a couple of years, with damages expected to be in the millions, some say billions(includes nearby cities, like Biloxi, Mississippi). I hope all those people, especially our pokemon players and families are safe and doing well.

I herad somewhere that since New Orleans is below sea level that it would eventually, in the future, go underwater. It's hard to say why people didn't realize this before now. It's going to be impossible for them to go back to normal.

Katrina was supposedly headed to my area (Toronto) today, but I guess it stopped. It was raining last night with wind, but nothing damaging. Today the sun is out and not a drop of rain.

Thanks for the update. Good thing those Poke-families are safe because they survived a horrendous storm and I hope that whatever they're going to do in the future, I wish them good luck in everything.

its not impossible for them to go back to normal. but it will take 2-3 years to restore new orleans to what it was before the storm. this kind of storm happens once every 100 years, and just because the people of new orleans know that its hurricane territory (i'm sure at least one person there doesn't know that it is), doesn't mean its "their fault" for choosing to live there and have a hurricane tear apart their home and etc. they are fellow human beings--its our job to help them. not just because they are pokemon players, because they are human beings.

These families have a lot of friends within the Pokemon community, and I figured that the information and update would be welcomed.

They'll be pleased to know that we're all thinking about them....

I'm happy to hear all the families are safe. I don't know anyone personal but I was praying for everyone in that area to get away from the event safely.

It's practicly impossible to clean up New Orleans. Have you seen the pictures? It's DESTROYED. If it were restored wich would take ALOT of work it would be about 4+ years. That's alot of time without New Orleans. Anyways glad that that all Poke-Familys are ok.

We've all been concerned about all of you in Mississippi and Louisiana. The news footage is so heartbreaking....

Glad to hear you spoke with Rick and all is well with them. We talked to Nancy yesterday after talking to you. They're suppose to be heading back today (without the kids) to see what Katrina has done to their home. We've been following the news real closely, and I'm afraid that the news may not be so good for the Lynches. We need to keep them in our prayers.
