Carrington388's Apprentice Contest: The Eleventh Boardroom

This is the thread where the eleventh boardroom session will take place. This boardroom will involve Team Torchic, who were humiliated by Team Torchic by a score of 53-19.

Team Torchic:
Captain: ZoraJolteon
2. LorakLucan
3. Ancient Pokemon Trainer
4. dragonspy900

Here's how the boardroom will work. I will ask a member of the team something. If it's related to the card, I will present their card and score. I may also bring in one of Team Techno Fluff's cards for comparison. Once I know the data I'm seeking, the session will continue until I break the news to one of the team members that they've been eliminated from the competition.

I'm disappointed in all four of you. Two of you didn't show up, and two of you didn't check to see whether the mechanics you were countering were directly referencable and thus got hammered with penalties, one of 10 points, the other of 15 points. First off, I will tell you that the two penalties Team Techno Fluff got were of the same values, one of 10 points and the other of 15 points.

ZoraJolteon, I'm especially disappointed in you. As captain, you were supposed to turn this team around. Instead, Team Torchic gets defeated by the biggest margin this contest has seen, and also scored the fewest points this contest has seen. I am pleased to tell you, however, that this does not guarantee your termination. But I do have some questions to ask you. You didn't come through with a card, so I have nothing to show.

First off, were you working on a card for this round? If so, could you please post your progress so I know you were?

Secondly, do you think that the two-day extension given to both teams due to technical difficulties was not enough for Team Torchic?

ZoraJolteon has the floor.

yes, wouldn't want to get on carrington's bad side even if he's wrong and you're right, seeing as that would lead him to fire you for "disturbing the peace" or something like that ;x

Ditto. Hey, I thought all of you were going to Boycott this and just quit it? Or does Sunflora still want to participate, and then they would be declared winner? =/

To answer your second question first, the 2 day extension was pathetic. The length and timing of the board errors were in no way significant enough to justify loosened deadlines. It was mearly to try to guilt the 6 people who'd come to a realisation about you into trying to post, and frankly I'm ashamed in those 4 who did.

In response to your first question, I was working on a card, which can be seen here. I hope you like the background.

Well, a joke card's better than nothing.

I've made my decision. Before I reveal, though, you won't believe which Team Techno Fluff members were the ones that got the penalties. Here are the cards and rubrics of those two:

Burninating_Torchic's Pokémon-DS!!!!!

Limiter Laboratory
Stadium Card

This card stays in play when you play it. Discard this card if another Stadium comes into play.

Each player does not draw any Prize Cards for Pokémon Knocked Out by Pokémon DS.

Rarity:
Holo-Rare

Picture:
The following pic is hand drawn, with further digital refinements (so it is not a fully digital picture like Typhlosion ex or Rayquaza ex, more like Ninetales ex)

There is a laboratory with highly advanced robotics (no, not LorakLucan's basement), dimly lit with bluish light. On a platform there is what looks like a HUGE cuboid glass tank, but is in fact a glowing, bluish force-field. Sitting in the tank is a Metagross glowing with greenish energy, looking like a goldfish in a bowl (to give you a sense of how big the tank is, the Metagross takes up only one-fifth of the space). Connected to the tank are various wires and cables and stuff. Sitting to the right at the other end of the platform is a short mad-looking scientist, with wild sprouts of hair jutting from underneath his nose like the blades of a propellor, typing away at a laptop with a fierce look of concentration on his face.

Explanations:
Well, there are only a few logical ways to stop Pokemon DS, and that is to stop them from ever being played, prevent Energy from being attached to them or stop them from attacking. But tactics of these sorts are more suited for a Poke-power, and none of them take advantage of the DS's most crippling aspect, its Multi-Prize mechanic. So, how do we counter something that could be either Basic or Evolved, basically says "I Win" and has more HP than Wailord Ex? Simple, it doesn't take prizes! And now your opponent has a wonderful sitting duck for us to exploit. Note that because of wording, attacks that place damage counters or simply have the text "all Pokemon are now Knocked Out", in fact even Bodies and Powers, are all taken into account (like Gengar DS, who can move any number of damage counters to an opponent's Pokemon with its Poke-power). Of course, if your Poke faints from a Burn or Poison inflicted by a Pokemon DS, the Stadium will not protect you (Jungle Snorlax/ Ex Ruby Sapphire Dustox, anyone?).

Rarity is Holo-Rare, simply because the DS themselves would presumably be Holo-Rare themselves. Also, unique and very powerful effect, don't you think?

It is not broken at all, as the chances of someone actually getting a DS into play and getting it powered up are pretty slim, seeing as there is only one allowed in each deck (unless you use a Basic DS, like Luvdisc DS, and pull it out with Plusle, in which case you deserve to have this card thrown at your face ) . In other words, 90% of the time, you have a useless card in your Deck. Also, your opponent can still win with a DS if it manages to use some sort of Bench-clearing attack, leaving you with no Pokes, or if the DS has an attack causing you to discard your entire deck. Finally, your opponent can counter your strategy by playing his own Stadium before attacking or returning his DS to his hand or Deck through a variety of means.

Strategy:
There isn't any real strategy, if you fear Pokémon DS that much, splash the card into any deck. Also, you do realise that being a Stadium card means my card counters LorakLucan's Pokemon-juj.

Some combo cards to consider:

Dark Porygon2:
The Spatial Distortion Power can return Limiter Laboratory from your discard pile back into play!! This will help counter any Stadium your opponent plays

Jungle Snorlax:
Thick Skin will stop those Special Conditions from taking this guy out, avoiding loss of Prizes.

Ex Ruby Sapphire Dustox:
See above, replace Thick Skin with Shield Dust.

Ex Deoxys Shedinja:
Don't let your opponent's other Pokemon takes Prizes!!! Bwahahaha!!!!

Dupilcator Destroyer
Trainer card (Snagem's Secret Machine)
You can't have more than 1 Duplicator Destroyer in your deck
Discard all Pokémon-{XX} in play. (No Prizes are taken.) Shuffle all cards attached to those Pokémon into their owner's decks. Your turn is over now (you don't get to attack).
Pic: We see what looks like the Team Snagem Hideout. In the middle of the pic is what looks like a massive contraption. There are some computer screens on the front of the device. To the left is Gonzap, grinning evilly about Team Snagem lastest invention. To the right is Gonzap's most trusted member, Wakin.
Rarity: Rare Holo

Explanation: This card's mechanic is simple. When played, Duplicator Destroyer discards all Pokémon-{XX} from play. However, this will usually only be used once due to only being allowed one in your deck. Then the next step is to wipe out your opponent's remaining Pokémon in quick sweeps.

Strategy:

Exploud (HL)/Glalie (Em); These can help out with the damage after the Pokémon-{XX} are gone!

Typhlosion (UF); Burning Aura can help finish off whatever Pokémon your opponent had to bring up after the loss of their Pokémon-{XX}.

Dark Tyranitar/Sephiroth's Regirock (FF7); Sand Damage will damage your opponent's remaining Basic Pokémon after the loss of their Pokémon-{XX}. Use Sephiroth's Regirock if you want quick play.

Nidoking (AQ)/Danny's Nidoqueen ex (OLM2); Earth Rage will also put some damage on your opponent's Bench. Use Nidoking if you don't want to risk a 2 Prize K.O.

Plasma's Ampharos (P/R Am); Plasma Generation has the same potential as Earth Rage. Put this together with the cards above and your opponent's Bench will be finished sooner than you think!

Magma's Charizard (M/A/F); Scorching Flames can deal some massive Bench damage. Need I say more.

Basically, anything that can deal spread or Bench damage can help this card out.

Rarity--3/3. Honestly, I wouldn't expect it any more abundant.
Explanations--8/8. Pretty epic!
Strategy--8/8. How much did that go for on eBay?
Penalties--(-15)/0. I'm sorry, but Pokémon-DS weren't listed as an eligible "Multi-Prize Mechanic" for reference in this round. A medium-level penalty.
Scribble's Score--45/60. If DS had been allowable, you would have been perfect.

Dupilcator Destroyer (Sunflorazumarill)
Name--3/3. Great.
Picture--3/3. When one scheme fails, go on to another, right?
Trainer Mechanic(s)--5/5. A Snagem's Secret Machine matches the picture pretty well, right? Even more balanced to the fact there's only 1 allowed in a deck, much like a Breaks-In.
Effect--30/30. Again, you scored a penalty with the effect, but that's listed in "Penalties", not in this section. A pretty good disruption mechanic otherwise, though.
Rarity--3/3. Again, something this strong shouldn't be more abundant, right?
Explanations--8/8. Great!
Strategy--8/8. Very nice strategy!
Penalties--(-10)/0. I'm sorry, but Pokémon-{XX} is not a legal descriptor for use in this round. A medium-low-level penalty, and far less severe than the penalties that claimed your original Team Torchic contemporary.
Sunflorazumarill's Score--50/60. Again, what would have been a perfect score was marred by the disallowed {XX}.
I know what you were thinking when you saw that Team Techno Fluff got 2 penalties. You probably didn't expect that one of them was assessed to their captain.

While LorakLucan came across with Team Torchic's harshest penalty, there's a reason I'm keeping him on. Every single card on both teams that got a penalty would have not gotten one had this been the next round. Yes, the doors to the CaC world open wider for round 12 with a wider array of descriptors and multi-Prize mechanics available to use. And, quite frankly, with them available, LorakLucan can actually become a contender.

ZoraJolteon, I'm also keeping you on. Sure, you may have not done a good job in leading the team in round 11, but I feel that you can do better and hopefully turn this team around, now that the doors are about to open wider. I just hope that your round 12 card isn't a joke. And if Team Torchic does manage to win round 12, you'll be guaranteed to set another record, this time for best turnaround.

dragonspy900, you would have been fired...had you still been on Team Techno Fluff and had Team Techno Fluff lost this round. Give yourself a round of applause, because you've made it to round 12!

Ancient Pokemon Trainer, I'm afraid you've been appearing quite spottily lately. Not only did you not come through in round 11, you probably weren't even aware of the extended deadline! You have given me no reason to keep you on in this contest. You're fired. The limo's waiting. Take the elevator down to the parking garage, and don't forget your suitcase on the way out.

[Ancient Pokemon Trainer walks onto elevator]

Well, this ends the worst round thus far in the contest for Team Torchic. I sure hope that you can turn it around in round 12. You may return to the lobby.

[ZoraJolteon, LorakLucan, and dragonspy900 file out of boardroom]
