Could you please reconfirm whether Victory Medal is legal in current modified format? It is on your list, but I don't see it on the current Modified Format list at http://www.pokemon.com/assets/cms/pd...nt_Formats.pdf (page 6 and 7).

It's not listed because they didn't realize that it wasn't a black star promo!

I have a question about using older cards which have received reprints, lets say from the Base Set. I've been acquiring a few reprinted old cards, and I noticed that the back of the base set cards seem to be a different tint than the newer sets, the blue color is much darker. I looked it up on a different website, and they say this is normal.

I have yet to play competitively so I'm not exactly sure how it'll work, but my concern is that using older cards such as these with a darker background on the back can give away or at least give a strong hint as to which cards you're about to draw or which cards are prize cards etc?

Most players use protective sleeves for their cards to both protect the cards and remove this issue.

ah, okay. Thanks for the response. That makes a lot of sense.

As far as tourneys go though, have there ever been any sort of rules making it mandatory to do so if you use mismatching cards?

There are rules against using marked cards.
Generally, if the cards are mixed and there is no pattern, you might be fine with backs that have color variations.
If it creates a marked situation where certain cards can be picked out of the deck, that would be a problem.
Sleeves are cheap.
Invest $5.

Hey Pop! So what will the next modified format be? Rising Rivals though Black and White? I'm thinking of making a new deck and don't want to pick cards that will be out of date in 6 months.

thanks!

They don't tell me until they tell you.

And, if for some reason they did, I certainly couldn't say before they announced it.

Nothing gets rotated out until after the World Championship.
They don't reveal what is being rotated out until after that, so not until then at least.

Every year that I remember, they've announced the upcoming rotation before US Nationals. The rotation itself doesn't happen until after Worlds in August.

Will references be required for all of the older potions and plus powers now?

I would like to know what we are going to do with Rare Candy now. Because they not updated the Card Dex and they also not printed it with the new wording I was wondering what we are to do about it.

Errata have never required references. All players are expected to know current errata.

I think they should start with Errata because its hard to remember when they change how a card works all together like Great Ball and Rare Candy

Regarding Items - Energy Retrieval in B&W is an "Item." Energy Retrieval in Base/LC was a "Trainer."

Is Energy Retrieval like Bill (originally Trainer, reprinted as Supporter)? Requires a reference?

All old Trainers are to be treated as Trainer-Items when interacting with new cards that know the difference.
It's similar to how we handled the changes in DP.

However, much more important is the text change to Energy Retrieval.
Because of THAT change you would need a reference.

Will the list be updated before battle roads start?

The list of Modified Legal cards has been updated with B&W.
Please alert us to any omissions or errors.
