SSBM Thread...

Way to get the last one locked too guys. =( Anyways, we still need a thread so this can be it.
Does anybody know a good, not-extremely expensive camera I can use for recording Smash battles?
Also, where can I learn what ALL the matchups are in Smash? Is there a thread somewhere on Smashboards? Or does someone know?

the easiest ways to record smash matches is using a videocapture card.

A piece of computer hardware that lets you plug in something so you can record on your computer ;D

Of course, it may be required to have some sort of cable converter (example: A/V to S-Video) if your video capture card doesn't have a specific jack.

Don't know how much they go for these days unfortunately

I have no plans to "jack" this thread. You can relax.

To make this post relevant: Is learning to spike people as Marth worth it? Usually I kill people with smashes or edge-guarding, but nothing says "I love you" like a spike, so...

Everyone tends to think Pichu is such a horrible character in the game. I beg to differ.

Miami, if you're saying Pichu is good, I have to disagree. ;p He's just overall bad, I can't even imagine what a good Pichu would even look like. But if you could show me a vid that'd be great.
Vids are the answer to life. =D

Marth's Spike is the second best in the game and his most efficient and combo-licious kill condition. Easy stuff like non-sweetspot SH double Fair chain leading into a spike (the infamous "Ken combo"). It's also a nearly guaranteed edgeguard/kill against opponents with slow recoveries like Captain Falcon.

Hmm, Pichu is pretty debateabley the worst character. Thin frame, almost no kill hits cept up-B, just not very good. Not to flame you or anything just stating, he is in the Low tier for a reason. However, Chu Dat was showing off his Pichu a while back. But that was just for fun. Pichu will almost definetly never see competitive light...

You wouldn't know from how much I find myself even attempting it. Usually I just, like, wind up using forward smash, up-tilt, annoyingly hilarious edge guarding, or some combination of the three.

So, yay for developing my own playstyle or something. Guess I'll practice spiking or something, then.

If Marth can get his opponent in the air near or over the edge (LOL LIKE THAT'S HARD) a spike can kill. The opponent doesn't even have to be OFF the edge for it to work, because his spike can push the opponent at an angle, depending on how you connect with it... which is what makes it so good.

The best spike in the game, in case you were wondering, is Falco's. The duration on that spike is RETARDEDLY long.

I may be a minority here but I think samus is the best character.

Grab is pretty good unless you miss
good in air moves
both close up and far range attacks
many many combos
chain grab on the wall is an easy way to beat edge guarding.

I like playing as samus but that;s just my opinion

Ganondorf's Dair is better than CF's on the ground.

Spiking someone and getting a STAR KO off it is ALWAYS hilarious!

Anyway I'm talking about spike/meteor KOs not grounded combos ;) Marth's Dair is totally useless over the stage unless you're really paranoid about your opponent approaching you from below.

I've killed Peach at least once that way while she was trying to recover.

It works if they're at a high enough percent to Star KO them... which is possible if you're up against Peach. Spiking is about the only really reliable way for Marth to kill her at a decent % if she's any good at avoiding Fsmash.

Breaking shields with pillaring is really rare lol, they can just hold c-stick left/right to roll as fast as possible which screws you. I'm really not sure if Falco deserves 2nd on the tiers anymore his edgeguarding isn't as broken as most would think if you can tech, and his general damage-racking game is easily DI'd; lasers are so good though and really help him a lot.. too bad he dies fast regardless.

Also yeah I have like no mindgames at all now but I can tech decently, I dunno the more I practice the more I'm losing my mindgames. :(

I got 2nd at a tourney on saturday; lost to Wes but beat D1 who is like a semi-pro Fox affiliated with pros and such.. considering fox/falcon is like the worst matchup in the game I'm pretty good. :D

Wes is really good with crouch-cancels and he really exploits any lag time (which I do as well, but he has mindgames); his Samus playstyle is much cooler than HugS who plays defensively and makes the game kinda boring. :(

I made $15 and I payed $12 to enter, $3 profit is ownage lol that's like a new pen.

Wes got $80.

wow wat was the prize distribution?

my area its like 60-30-10 or 50-30-20

but i think that a falco better than me can rep falco for his tier list

but i think that falco should be first, and fox should be scond

and marth for 3rd (yay)

but im still working on my tech skill, and im getting known for it

but forwards going to a tourney that im going to this saturday (i wanna falco ditto him)

taj is going two, i wanna marth ditto him again

neals going too i wanna IC ditto him again

No idea, it was a biweekly though hence the pot isn't worth too much; AND it was on the same day as Parallax. :(

It's usually 6-3-1 here, too.

but i think that a falco better than me can rep falco for his tier list

nah I'd have to disagree.. Falco is a great character but doesn't really fast-fall as quickly as he should. If he were as fast as Fox, best character in the game, sure; unfortunately he doesn't shffl aerials at such a speed so he doesn't put as much pressure as other characters do. I don't even know if he deserves second..

and marth for 3rd (yay)

Maybe, although when you really consider (out of all the tourney-usable characters) who marth beats; it's not a very big selection. The only one he has a good matchup against is Peach - Fox/Falco aren't exactly countered by Marth despite previous belief.

but im still working on my tech skill, and im getting known for it

but forwards going to a tourney that im going to this saturday (i wanna falco ditto him)

He came to the biweekly before this one; I was kinda shocked to see Forward there, of all people. lol didn't get to play him but his falco was good.

taj is going two, i wanna marth ditto him again

neals going too i wanna IC ditto him again

I think I have been getting better with flaco now. so I think I main him more than my good old Roy. But yeah I have three 'apprentices' out here now who are learning under my wing. Man I am so nice...
