What were the old archetypes?

I'm trying to figure out archetypes from previous modified formats. Since I wasn't in a lot of touraments durig Rocket-On and Ne-On, I don't know a lot of the popular decks.

From Rocket-On, I have Riptide.
From Ne-On, I have EnteiCargo, Deep Sleep, Kabulix, and Heavy Metal.
E-On, I have BAR, RAMBO, and Gardy. Those three were the format, atleast in my area.

If you know any, please give a rundown of the pokemon, trainers, and its strategy. If there is already a Pokegym thread on it, give a link.

Thanks.

It's about a hundred times more complex by the format, especially when you consider the sets and the rotations released. If you go by each STS/worlds/fat, rather than each format, the decks change almost completely by the time each of these major tournaments hit, however, there was only one format shift in between.

If you want to take it to that complexity, you may. I'm looking for a general idea of the archetype's list and strategy. If something happened to alter the decklist, include that too, but the techs don't change what the deck is. Talk about the metagame and what techs that influenced, if you think that will lend a better understanding to the deck.

When I played a Rocket-on tournament there were already sets released to like Neo revelation, so you can atleast add some of your neo-on archtypes to rocket-on. Furthermore I don't really know, didn't play many tourneys back than.

Guys, the formats are simply me organizing and has little to do with the archetypes except to say that I don't want unlimited ideas formed by taking cards from two sets that never shared in a modified. I'm aware that a lot of decks span 2 modifieds. I more or less thought people would be able to name archetypes.

Let's try this a different way:
From the Team Rocket to Skyridge, I only have 5 decks on the list. What were popular decks besides those I named in post 1?
During the time Riptide was played, did it not have a rival?
What archetypes could an EnteiCargo player expect to face?
What were popular archetypes when R/S was released but before Sandstorm?

Well, here's the problem, it's not new techs that are introduced, entire metagames changed whenever a major tournament happened, the decks that were there defined each format, it wasn't the set rotations because set rotations didn't occur along with major tournaments. The first rocket on, you have gatr, big fire, and slowking steelix. The next sts, it becomes something like gatr, big fire, encargo, slowking steelix, crobat, dark muk. After neo on hits (worlds 2002) you have all of the slowking variants, plus kingdra, encargo, etc. After slowking is banned and the next major tournament is the FAT, you end up with smf, gatrsect, and encargo.

I'd like to know the archetypes from when it was Expedition on and when it was Ruby/Sapphire on. I have no idea what happened during Expedition and I have only a little idea of what happened during R/S. I believe this was around 2003?

You and me both, PsiUmbreon. I've got a big information gap in my list from where E-On starts up until Standstorm, when Gardy ex would have appeared, followed by BAR upon Dragon's release, and then RAMBO with TMTA.

Did any decks from Ne-On survive the rotation into Eon? What were new decks from the start of E-On up to Sandstorm?

What is Big Fire? I've never heard of SMF, what was that?

Same avatar too :p

I have a gap there because Wizards closed down and I didn't have anywhere to go for a league, so I really didn't play competitively between that time and only went to like one tournament, had a feeling Gardy would be playable so I ran it, but got creamed due to my lack of metagame knowedge by something with Blaziken and Rayquaza EX and another time by Dark Tyranitar/Ampharos.

EDIT: I have a feeling Big Fire involves Magcargo from Neo Revelations. I ran that back in the days of Neo together with Typhlosion.

Rock-Lock is still too new. Looking for stuff from E-On and before, just not unlimited.

I completely forgot about Sabrina's Alakazam. Oh, the days when doing 60 damage each turn was enough.

Anyone know where I can find decklists for Big Fire and Sabrina's Alakazam? I'm wondering about their trainer lines and any other pokemon they used.

Was the Neo Genesis Jumpluff ever really good, or was it a failed archetype?

I'm aware of Giovanni's Machamp + Focus Band, but I'm really not sure what it runs. I can only imagine that it must have had Cleffa in it (A deck wasn't at its optimum without Cleffa in those days ).

Doing some research, I discovered Rapid Spin Donphan + Baby Pokemon. Was there any thing to that idea, or was it really just an idea?

Does Pokegym have any of these decks in an archived place? We're lucky that people post extensively about deck designs now. Archetype decks from years ago seem to have escaped fossilization, though I have found some good writings about some.

The Rapid Spin Donphan + Babies was the "Babyporter" deck. It did do very well--I think it may have even won Nationals or Wizards's World Championship in the last year of the Wizards era.
