Acquiring basic Dark and Metal energies before BRs?

Is anyone else having a hard time getting Basic Dark and Metal Energies?

We opened 3 boxes and came up with less than 10 of each. Which is not enough for a deck....

Anyone know what the average pull per box is? And is there any chance of an alternate method of getting them? ( IE in starters?)

according to what people have posted, the theme decks contain enough basic energies (each contain 6 of the respective types. one deck has 6 dark, and the other has 6 metal i believe).

Empoleon Theme Deck has 6 Metals and the Torterra Theme Deck has 6 Darks.

Out of booster boxes, it does seem that there is on average 1 of each per box.

most tournament stores take the packs from boxes and place them into a container, shaking them, thus, randomizing them. hence the possibility of someone even getting 2 lv. x's in 6 packs.

i beg to differ :) here in so. cal we take one side of the box, take six at a time = 6 piles per box...

Yea I'm not a fan of container randomness for the reasons listed above and try to avoid playing in pre's that use this method.

As for the basic energy, some boxes just have way more than others. At the last pre I was in I pulled one of each basic energy. From the rest of the box I saw 3 players get 2 metal and 3 dark between them.

Basicly what everyone is going to do is buying alot of theme deck just for the Energys.

BTW, i think basic metal/dark isnt gonna be that much needed. Most ppl will play metal (sp) energy due to it's nice effect. basic version of them doesnt have any effect, so u'll need less than 6 of them.

Which decks need basic darkness? Maybe Metagross DX can work with basic metals but otherwise?

You can play a Sharpedo ex deck or Shiftry varient with basic darks
