Pokemon TFG Now Supported at League
<img src="http://pokegym.net/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=26328" alt="TFG006Pikachu" />
According to an announcement to League Leaders today, Leagues may give points for Pokemon TFG games that are played at League. My understanding is that this is optional for the League, so check with your League Leaders. League Leaders may get more details on the announcement in the League forum on the official POP boards.

Having age Groups in TFG wouldn't be a good idea being a lot of TCGers don't play it anyway

Took a while, but it's better than setting up another league system that would end up competing with the tcg.

I like blending the two! I think it's great for the kids to be able to enjoy them both!

The kids at our league really don't like it that much, it is boring to them except the spinning part.

The integration of TFG into TCG league is most likely planned during the conceptualization of the TFG.
I believe whoever designed TFG in Japan even has plans to integrate TCG (or TCG-like) elements into the TFG game-play in the future (or vise versa). This is pure speculation, but my reasons revolve around the three unexplained gameplay elements on the TFG figures. 1. There is no explanation for the Pokemon Type symbol displayed next to the Movement Point on each figure. These symbols do not appear anywhere else in the Pokemon franchise other than in the TCG game; the animation and VG both utilize the 17 type system (I realize the 17 types can be mapped into the 9 types). To reuse the same symbols on the TFG figures is an indication that the designers want to keep the TCG and TFG closely related. 2. Underneath each evolved pokemon figure has the name of the pre-evolved pokemon printed. Based on the current TFG rule set, this information does not provide any value to the game-play. However, this can to be an indicator that future rule set may allow basic pokemon to evolve in a similar fashion as the rule set for the TCG. 3. Each rare trainer figure has a blue semi-circle on their dial that doesn't serve any purpose right now. The WoW TCG popularized the avatar system with their HERO cards. MTG followed suit by introducing the Planeswalker cards two expansions ago. Maybe Pokemon TCG will use the trainer figures from the TFG set to introduce some kind of avatar system in the future. I am glad Pokemon USA is putting more effort into support the TFG, which had a really poor marketing plan as far as I am concerned. There was one IGN interview that wasn't promoted on the official site. Penny Arcade did one panel for the TFG, and I am not sure if that's arranged viral marketing or just free prop because Gab and his partner think it's cool. Was there even a TV spot? I also hope Pokemon USA fix the totally screwed-up packaging design by the release of Groundbreakers. The current packaging is prone to in-store tempering (secret figure theft is common in chain stores), not very protective (OH-HO death chamber), has large gaps in the starter backboard seal (the mat/manual packet can fall through the gap), and weird figure distribution (hooray for my 15th Zangoose in the secret figure slot). |

Hooray! Finally a good reason to buy more of the TFG. I puchased a lot of figures when it first came out and have been playing with them, but i havn't bothered to buy a lot more becuase i was unsure if there would ever be any reward for having so many of them. This game seemed heavily supported with all the demos at Origins and San Diego Comic-Con, I was surprised that no form of orginized play was initiated. Thanks to this step closer to actual TFG tournaments, I feel confident in this game once more.

Totally awesome. I've been requesting that of POP for awhile now. Glad to see that they're listening.
I know of one kid at my League who would love to hear the news. He loves to play the TFG as well as the TCG. - Croatian "spin to win" Nidoking

I am unable to access the League Leader Forum but have requested permission. Are there any details that can be posted here because the kids at my league are going to be soooo excited? Thanks!

No more details as of yet than what I have posted here.
Basically, you can give them points for TFG games as if they were TCG games. Since they just got the approval, they haven't designed anything special (yet?) and just rushed out the news.

It would be nice if they'd announce it somewhere besides the League Leader Forums. If one of my Leaguers hadn't mentioned seeing it on PokeGym I'd have never known. Now I'm having to wait until the powers that be decide to grant me accesss to the forums before I can see the official announcement. < /rant >
----- It's about time that there was some kind of OP for the TFG. I've ben demoing it since it came out but the packs are so expensive that not many local people were willing to buy more than a pack or two since there weren't tournaments or leagues for it. |

Well the Memphis League does it.
I set up in one area and Grabed my team, and told people they could use any of my 60 figures that I was not using and any trainer cards. I got 5 (Best 2 out of 3) battles befor I left... I won all 5! |

The TFG is effectively dead at my leagues. About a week or two before the announcement, about 4 people were playing it at league, but it really is very sporatic. I've got to try to reorganize my TCG stuff before I can even hope to support the TFG properly. My manager put it best when he said that it's easy to bring a binder of 400 cards in every week; not so simple to haul in cases of 400 figures. On that note, one of my leagues was digging through old stuff and stumbled across the Pokemon battling coin game, or the ancestor of the TFG as I call it. The TFG needs to apply mechanics from that. hum.... that gives me an idea. |
