3 More Old Reprints in Galactic's Conquest

I was searching Ebay for some Galactic's Conquest and found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pokemon-Japanese...ayphotohosting

They are the next 3 old reprints in the new set. They are Base Set 1 Hitmonchan, Base Set 1 Electabuzz, and Jungle Scyther. Discuss.

If only Haymaker was still viable...the steady upward creep of hitpoints for newer Pokémon has kinda ruined it But, I plan to try the Hitmonchan and 'Buzz at the local league, anyway

How did Haymaker work anyway? I wasn't into the game then, I just liked how Charizard looked. Good times.

Haymaker worked because most basic pokemon had 40 or 50 HP. A player would start with Hitmonchan, and their opponent would start with something with 50 HP. The Hitmonchan would go first. In those days there was just trainer cards, no supporter difference, and you could also play any trainer any time, even if going first. So the Hitmonchan player would use Computer Search and Professor Oak and Item Finder to go through their entire deck on the first turn if needed, just to find at least 3 Plus Power to knock out the opponents only Pokemon and win the game.

Electabuzz was there for its status effects and high damage for 2 energy, and Scyther had resistance to Hitmonchan for the mirror, and could abuse Double Colorless Energy. It also had free retreat.

Add in things like Super Energy Removal, Energy Removal, Gust of Wind, Lass, and Super Scoop Up, and you've got a really mean deck.

Evolution decks just weren't fast enough. So people only played Haymaker. It was worse than G&G.

True, but even then, Haymaker had the better odds.

The "Base Set" Electabuzz might go over well in a Magnevire deck - that is, if we are getting the old-school reprints here in the States. We're not yet sure if we're getting the Charizard family in Stormfront. We'll just have to see.

And Electabuzz can evolve into Electivire now at least...

Overall, considering how the game's changed, almost anything except some of the Base Set Trainers could never see play today. Blastoise, Venusaur, maybe. But almost anything else is just asking to die some horrible death with x2 Weakness.

Yeah, it was the Trainers that broke the original format.
The Pokemon weren't the problem.

With the fresh info saying the Char-line made it over, looks like these 3 should appear too Time to start planning modern haymakers!

Mr. Mime. Blastoise.

I will agree, the majority of the breaking was due to the Trainers, but there were some seriously groundbreaking Pokémon. And if your deck was built properly, Haymaker was never really a threat; you just had to be intelligent.
