Fire/Water deck, viable? Need help starting

After having taken a look at a fair amount of Hidden Legends, I have found Tentacruel and Ninetails to be particularaly interesting Pokemon. Interesting enough for me to consider making a deck around having Tentacruel do his uber poison attack, and then switching in Ninetails for the kill, espcially effective against EX pokemon. Tentacruel has free retreat cost too, which if I load up 4 switches into my deck, could be a quick combo I could keep up for a while. Assuming that I only use the EX set cards(because I am going to start the game when Redfire and Greenleaf comes out, and the previous ones are banned), what are some basic fire and water pokemon I should be looking into, as well as some other potential evolutions and trainer cards I may want to use in my deck. I'm not looking for a deck list at all, just some useful cards, and maybe some sets I should focus on buying if this is my case. I have just looked into the new set, and Dewgong seems like it will effectively as useful as Ninetails, and could very well help me out well.

As for Stadiums, High Presure Stadium and Ancient Tomb look nice. Especially with high Pressure I could work with out switch when I pull off my Ninetails/Tentacruel combo.

Thank you for helping an old player restart his favorite TCG.

I think Swampert from Ruby And Sapphire is a good one. Also if yo want to useEX's yourself, Kyogre EX, Latias EX, and the upcoming Articuno EX would be good ones. You might also want to look at Blaziken. Well at least the Firestarter one. Oh and Team Aqua's Kyogre is one of the best to use most of the time. Maybe heavy retreat cost but it's very effective, as long as you keep a good number of team aqua pokemon.

Glad to see someone is starting up play again! Good to have ya back.

Articuno EX will be very good. It when you play it from your hand you may put it in the active position (current active is benched) and move all basic energy from your bench to the new active. (arty EX)

You could tech in holo salamence, who uses 1 fire n 1 water n 2 colorless to do 60 dmg, his power his nice. The 3 bird legendarys are diffently something to look at.

With all due respect, Tentacruel/Ninetales will get you nowhere fast. There is no synergy, whatsoever, from what I can see, in the deck. None. If you're looking for some good Water/Fire pokemon, here are my suggestions:

Dragons: Holo Salamence - Does 60 for (RWCC) and has a Gust of Wind trainer card built in to its power. Very nice card to pick off early basics and such if you can get it out fast.

Dragons: Latias ex - Does 100 for (RWC), but you must discard a R and a W when you use the attack. Simple solution: something that can get energy back from the discard (Dragons: Magneton) and something that can attach extra energy straight to the active (RubySapphire: Holo Swampert). Since Latias ex has 90 HP, it isn't hurt by Desert Ruins whatsoever, which is an added bonus in this metagame.

Hidden Legends Ninetales is pretty bad, since it protects you from exs. WHAT exs? This format is all about Walrein/Milotic, Crobyss, Metagross, Shiftry, and other anti-ex pokemon, which don't use exs (with the exception of Metagross, but mex is used in short supply in that deck). There is some Gardy, some Blaziken, but when they see a Hidden Legends Ninetales, they'll bring out their regular Gardy/Blaziken ex and kill Ninetales/slaughter your bench.

Tentacruel can only do 40 damage a round with its second attack, only has 70 HP, and its free retreat cost will do it no good, because before you know it, you'll be dead. Crobat can do up to 70 damage a round for the same amount of energy, has 90 HP, and has a much better supporting attack. Try Crobat out, it's a popular deck in today's metagame.

If you're looking to play just for fun, TentaTales will be fine, but in competitive play, if you're looking for a tournament win, I don't think it will stack up well against the big guys. It just can't put out the damage like the other decks can, and it can't outsmart the other decks (through use of poke-powers) so it really has nothing on them.

Thank you for the tip before I went out and got my cards. I had thought EXes were a big thing. Though what can we expect when the 3 non EX sets are banned and Redfire is introduced? I think I'll go ahead and ditch the Ninetales and Tentacruel idea then. What might be some good plays with Water and Grass, I had just seen those pokemon and thought it was a good idea, but my favorites lie with in Water and Grass.

I am liking Crobat a lot, and the Arbok looks decent. I'll have to take a look into that.

well now that you're thinking of Water and Grass...

Try Energy Trans Sceptile and Wailord (both from Ruby and Saphire) using energy trans as a way to transfer Multi/Double/Rainbow Energies around.
