Please help with my G counter
so, in my state there are a lot of SP pokemon decks out there, as well as other decks out there. But I think I have an idea that can counter SP and still do good with all the other decks out there. My strategy is to use Gengar, (you don't get Turn 1 donked with Gengar because Gastly makes it so they can not play trainers on their turn, Rare candy, Energy gain, etc.) Gengar hits around the field for 30-60 depending on if they have a pokepower, He then for 2 energy hits for 30x for all supporter, trainer cards in the hand. SP decks are running a lot of trainers, power spray, energy gain, poketurn, etc. When they knock out Gengar they the flip and risk being knocked out themselves (powerspray does not cancel this power) For my second attacker I would use Mewtwo of course. I know Dialga G lv X takes away his body but even with his body gone he is still one to be reckoned with. He can damage a lot of different pokemon out there and he is a great counter to SP decks. I know about Mewtwo Lock, but with Gengar in the deck I am not too worried about it. So here is my first deck list for this deck
Pokemon 4 x Gastly SF 2 x Haunter 4 x Gengar SF 2 x Mewtwo 2 x Mewtwo LV.X 2 x Unown G 2 x Uxie 1 x Uxie LV.X Trainer/Supporter/Stadium 3 x Roseanne's Research 4 x Bebe's Search 1 x Luxury Ball 4 x Rare Candy 2 x Premier Ball 3 x Felicity's Drawing 3 x Pokedex HANDY910is 2 x Night Maintenance 3 x Looker's Investigation 2 x moonlight Energy 3 x Call Energy - Special 11 x Psychic Energy - Basic Last edited by DptyMewtwo; 03/02/2009 at 09:49 AM. I really like this deck and think it could do very well against G decks. The fact that they use 30+ Trainers means Gengar is going to be scoring a lot of OHKOs.
The only changes I can think of is to include some Stadiums (drop Pokedex for Moonlight?) to get rid of their Stadium and stop them knocking out Gengar with the Poison of Skunktank's Poison Structure and avoiding Gengar's Power.

I was thinking instead of moonlight I would use Miasma Valley?

A well thought out deck, it looks really good. I also would suggest adding some stadiums, as you could slow down the amount of times skuntank uses its power on you. I would recommend adding in both Miasma Valley and Moonlight. You could also possibly add in pokedrawer+ instead of pokedex or something.

Hmm while I see maisma and moon light to be good stadiums to play but what happens if your opponent has the same stadium in play as you are using? In my G deck I have 2x snowpoint, 1x moonlight, and 2x maisma. so I guess what I guess I'm trying to say is maybe use a non G stadium as a counter or hope to get your stadium down first

Very doubtful one will be able to keep control of the stadium against an SP deck, they run too many for the avg deck. You can hope you can lock it to yours for a short while. Speed Stadium is something you may want to use that isn't SP related, or broken time space.

yes G decks I know usually run BTS, Moonight, snowpoint and even lake boundary. Speed stadium would help me with draw power and my opponenet :( but I am thinking if I run a stadium that SP decks do not, Speed stadium is my best bet

Why would a SP deck run Broken Time Space, that is for faster evolving, which is something SP decks don't do. SP decks are already fast as it is, so I doubt using speed stadium will give them that much of an edge, they will likely try to use it and then replace it with one of theirs.

Run misma or moonlight. You can't win the stadiums by out playing them because they play at least 6 stadiums but you want to play stadiums they play that don't hurt you because then they can't play theirs down. That hurts them a lot especially because gengar does 60 to a toxicroak for each on in their hand.

That is more or less what I have done when i battled my brothers SP deck, locked Moonlight down as mine, however the reverse is true as well, if they get it first, you have to deal with the likely constant use of skuntank. And remember SP decks tend to run several different type of stadiums, so you won't keep it locked to yours for very long.

I am not too worried about Toxitank using stadium due to Mewtwo being Immune until they get out Dialga G lv X. I hit for 60 it does 120 to Toxicroak knocking out easily.
Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added: I would like to find a way to tech in a 1-1 Mismagius from SF. Because if they end up seeing me play Gengar they may drop all their tools on their SP pokemon to save them from taking that 30x damage. If so I use Mismagius to hit them for 20x for each tool on the field Take away 1 Felicity and 1 Unown G? Last edited by DptyMewtwo; 02/27/2009 at 04:42 AM. Reason: Doublepost Eliminator |

perhaps pokeblower + would be nice to pull up their dialga G lvl X, then you can just deal with him right away.

Some initial thoughts. Energy count seems a little high even with Mewtwo. 13-14 should do. Supporter count also seems a bit high to me. I know that you are not using Claydol here, but 13 ... idk.
If you are running Felicities then there is no reason to not run an extra Luxuray ball or two. It increases your odds of getting it early and you can just discard the later ones to get more draw.

You absolutely need 3 BTS. Toxitank G decks can't get running if they don't have a stadium in play.
Actually, as a G counter, 3 Moonlights would be better - most Toxitanks run 1-2 of those, and if yours is in play one of their precious stadiums is a dead card. I would ditch 4 Psychic Energy for 4 PokeDrawer + --> a lot of your matchup crucially depends on your ability to get the T1/T2 Gengar up and OHKO'ing, and keeping them from laying down stadiums.

^ of course if they lay Moonlight first then the OP can't play it to counter either.
edit, and be careful ... Mightyena will probably play BST too.

here is a question, with Powerspray out there do I run Uxies or claydols? I seen some SP decks out there, but on average how fast are people getting their Dialga Gs leveled up? I reallyl think I need 13-14 energy like Vanderbilt was saying. but should I take out the pokedex for pokedrawer?
