Efects
I'm reposting this because someone anwered THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE QUESTION from the one I asked, and now I can't reply to it, probably because of what someone THOGUHT I was asking. THIS IS NOT A QUESTION ON WHAT "DAMAGE" IS!!!!
My original Question: A number of cads/powers tell you to "ignore all effects, including damage, of your opponents attack" or "ignore all effects, except damage, of your opponents attack." Where i am confused is what is considered an "effect"? For example, when using Deoxys attack form, the attack says "on your next turn, the base damage for this attack is 20 (instead of 80). Does this still apply? To better clarify what I'm asking, in the Deoxys attack form example, if the target is under a condition that says ignore all effects, except damage, of your opponents attack.", Is the base damage still 20, as ber the card text, or is that an "effect" and thus disregarded? If I used MewTwo Lv.X's Giga Burn, would I still discard Energy? THAT is my question. |

I was trying to give you a general answer that you could use to apply to multiple situations, but I'll answer more directly the specific case you bring up.
I'll note that you're leaving out an important phrase, "ignore all effects... done to [this Pokemon]". That "done to [this Pokemon]" is critical, because it means you have to look at which Pokemon or part of the game area the effect is affecting. Things that are done to change the base damage to the attacking Pokemon are not being done to the Defending Pokemon. In the specific example you are asking about, the phrase "During your next turn, Deoxys' Psychic Boost attack's base damage is 20" is an effect that is placed on Deoxys that stays until the next turn is over. That is an effect, but the effect is on Deoxys and is done to Deoxys. So the Base damage would be 20 for the next turn. You would still discard Energy for Giga Burn. That effect is being done to Mewtwo. |
