Who saw this comming? (Dialga G/Palkia G variant decks)

Ok, how many people saw this comming? Well I had an idea that this would happen. Last week I made a proxy deck with Dialga G as a attacker and played it against my Amphy deck. My Amphy deck only won when it could not set up right and that was rare. I went to the tournament hopeing that Dialga would only be a tech, but as it turned out my fears came to life.

What other cards from this Platinum set are we not taking advantage of ? There must be other stuff besides the obvious Amphy, Toxicroack, Dialga G tech, Blastcatty, Rampardos strategies we can play with. Are we not smart enough to come up with other stuff ?

I am a technical strategic deck maker and I try all of the possibilities when it comes down to making a deck. We need to be more creative and come up with better strategies. Sometimes those fun mixed decks might be just what we're looking for.

Are there other people out there who thinks like this? Do you guys think we will see somthing different this saturday? I hope so. I want to hear your thoughts on this issue.

People do have loads of strategies... They just don't like to share them and give them hype.
Palkia G was a well known deck among loads of players, but it was a secret.

The top 2 decks in my division at VA States were Giratina/Gallade/Gardevoir and Machamp/Dusknoir. If those aren't interesting combos, I have no clue what is.

Well, yeah those combinations are rare, but everybody knows about the power of GG and we all know why Dusknior and Machamp are at the top. Out of all the cards in the new sets that come out, only a small fraction of those cards see competitive play. Then a even smaller fraction of them get added to older decks to make them better. The rest just sit in the binder all year.

I expect more people to be running what won last week instead of a counter or somthing totaly different. Also I think sticking in 1 tech won't solve all our problems. Since so many players will be using the same decks, it will come down to who gets lucky. Let me ask you something and don't be offended by it. Do ya feel lucky?

If you check the Deck help section, I made a thread focused on Dialga G lv.X way back, like when the set just came out, or during pre-releases. But all that is moot.

Having the idea is different than having the idea and working with it. Credit and kudos goes to those that had the idea and worked with it. Nothing goes to those that had the idea and didn't do anything with it.

Your right, having the idea got me nowhere. If I would have pulled Dialga G lvx instead of making proxies you best believe I would've played with it last saturday. Iwould have found out that other people thought the same way I did when they made Dialga G lvx an attacker.

I agree. If they didn't play with Dialga G lvx, Amphy would shut off it's power.

I disagree.

I like Dialga a lot, and I saw it coming. I used it at states in fact!

I didn't see Palkia G for sure. Though now I look at it, it's basically Froslass on steroids, as you don't have to evolve and likely will always attack for 2 Energy due to Energy Gain. Plus, Lost Cyclone is occasionally helpful if your opponent isn't aware of it.

Dialga G for attacking is also odd, though I guess good once one considers it. Even if most of the good "Trainers" are Supporters, people still use plenty of Trainers and Stadiums. Second Strike is also good. And of course, once it levels up, you shut down all Poke-Bodies except SP (which we all know about).

There were more people who didn't see them comming because they thought Dialga G lvx was a tech, and they thought Palkia G was crap because of other peoples opinions on the gym and elsewhere. I hope this teaches people to think for themselves a little more. Even though believing what other people say does have some merit. Especially if they are more experienced than you and since they have not seen the cards in action, it becomes even harder.

Figured it out and played it myself. I was the only one playing it in Finland's first States weekend, though.

Now that G.lock is out and open, I'm looking forward to the metagame shifts it's going to create. At least everyone should learn to use opponent's Palkia G Lv.X for their advantage - it's not like Dusknoir where you just can't play down the 4th pokémon.

Of course I saw it coming, I let my brother play it at states, and helped my playtesting group tinker with it so they could make the best list possible.

I have been testing dialga/palkia for months now. Its obvious when you just read these cards that they're highly playable. In fact, pooka even used this concept BEFORE the set was even released, in top 4 of iron chef.

If you had ever said anything about playtesting it to me at league, we could've started working on it then and there. ;)

I made it work. While I went 3-3, after starting 0-2 (Game 1 Mirror-Match that was decided on flips, Game 2 Faced a T2 Ho-oh with 6 energies on it), my playtest buddy, Wood811, went 9-0 at WI states.

Kind of hard doing things with it if you don't have the cards.
Yeah.
Just getting that out.

Prime posted the only, first, and truest "close" deck to Dialga, and it was a few months ago. I was quite scared when I saw it since I had been working on Dialga for some time and wondered if it would leak out. For some reason everyone ignored any attempts at Dialga on the gym, and focused entirely on the inferior versions.
