I've wrestled with this for a while. I usually use 16 to 22 energies (depending on the type of deck), but I see several desks posted that use only 12 to 14 energies! I tried going down to 14 energies with a Meganium Wild Growth deck and it was very tough.

Only 12 energies per deck means drawing one only every 5th turn, or Oaking to get just one! This does not seem too efficient. [Frown]

I'd like to use less energies to make room for more trainers but find it unnerving having to wait for an Elm or Oak so I can get an energy. Yes, eeeeeeeking with Cleffa is good, but doing this two or three times while your opponent builds up their Pokemon certainly has its disadvantages.

So, great master trainers out there, please enlighten me. How do you do it? Please share your strategy on how do you play successfully with the least amount of trainers. (I'm mainly talking MMF, so trainers like NGR do not help here). Thanks.

i think the low amount of energies most people use is insane!
I like to keep AT LEAST 10 of the type my deck is moddled after (grass).
I also keep 4 DcE's, and a few full heal/recycle energies wouldn't go amiss either.
i use plenty of energies, and i like to draw them about 1 in every 3 turns.
And i'd rather not have to use an oak/CS/elm/ whatever to find one.
HOPE THIS HELPS!

How much energy you need depends on:

1. What type of deck you are running (retreat costs, discards, etc.)
2. How many types of energy you're using (one-type decks need less energy than multi-type decks)
3. Local metagame (more of an issue with unlimited with ER and SER)

My Lt. Ledian/Lt. Golduck deck runs 18 energy for the base state and Muk versions, and 16 energy for the Slowking version. Not sure how average that is, but there you are

And remember, Fire and Electric type decks wil need more energy than a fighting deck.

My way is to lay out the deck, card by card, in front of you. Then, taking energy, give energies to each poke until they can use their best attack once.(Dont give energies to basics or mid-evolutions, their energy goes with the final stage) then, count up the cards and subtract pokemon until you have 60!

Best Decks
Kurai Tsuki no Kokoro
Dark Ampharos/Dark Espeon
31-7

Kage Ha!
Dark Scizor
8-0

Elm, Oak, Cleffa and Copycat are archetypes.

YGO Deck:
Yukai na Shi ni yotte Ryu
Pleasant Death by way of Dragon
25-8

My have/want list
