This is a new deck that I think could be successful in the new Modified format. I give credit to my son Zak for coming up with this. He played it in a tourney last Sunday and fininshed second, to the usual Kingdra-center deck.

Here is the deck
Pokemon: (21)
4 x Slugma (Destiny)
3 x Magcargo (Revelation)
2 x Chikorita (E)
3 x Bulbasaur (E)
3 x Ivysaur (E)
3 x Venusaur (E - harvest bounty)
3 x Cleffa (genesis)

Trainers: (23)
4 x Oak's research
3 x Elm
2 x Switch
2 x Double Gust
3 x Energy Restore
3 x Trader
2 x Bill
2 x Breeder
2 x focus band

Energy (16)
10 x fire
6 x grass

This deck went extremely well, except that it lacked the big punch to take out Kingdra Effectively, and his finals opponent was excelent at double gusting any Magcargo threats out to hit them.

Otherwise it owned, and the Chikorita did great at holding off water until one of the big cargos was set up. In his finals match, he did take out 2 kingdras before falling to the third.

Switch and double gust worked great to take off status. Energy Charge was perfect for getting energy back from the discard that Cargo left there. Ivysaur is a pretty potent attacker, all on his own.

In one game he got out a turn 2 pumped up Magcargo with a Venusaur sitting on the bench. Needless to say, that game did not last long.

Did well against another fire deck. Turned out to be Magcargo v. Magcargo. Did well against water decks, Chikorita stall. Did well against a few rogue decks. We will be improving this and would be interested in suggestions. No, I am not going to add Wooper (my own favorite piece of advice)

Let me know what you think.

Magcargo is a good idea here. Not so sure about the Venusaur but it can work. Since everyone and their mother played Slowking and water at Worlds, everyone will be metagaming against Slowking and against Water. This means a lot of Muk, and a fair amount of Crobat. The Muk kills off Venusaur's power -- but the Crobat really doesn't hurt you. I'd go more along with Entei-Cargo (since everyone doesn't anticipate OHKOs from the water decks they THINK they will be facing, they'll play Gold Berry...which will be useless when Magcargo nukes them.) I REALLY, REALLY suggest going the old Entei-Cargo route here since Muk puts a cramp in this deck that isn't evident with Entei (since it's a come into play power it isn't turned off).

Good luck!

What, like the pro-archetype attitude is supposed to be restricted to THIS company, and THIS TCG?
All card games run on archetypes. Magic is 90% archetypes. YGO is 90% archetypes. Pokemon was, for the most part, all archetypes before and during MF2. Pokemon will be archetype-based during MF3. Pokemon will be archetype based when it is under Nintendo.

Viva la unoriginality!

I dont care about being "original" Ill build and play the deck that I am comforable with. I dont need to play a rogue deck to show Im good. I win with skill.

CP is right... after worlds every boy is gona metagame water and slowking... about three months ago i would have said to put in slowking to take out the trainer menace but now i hate that card... realy the only thing i can thin of is to add in some lasses maybe 3-4 to clear you oponents hand of trainers... i would also say elekid to take out that little horsea at the begining of the game... thats about it.. laters...
