This is yet another theme deck remake, courtesy of myself. This time, the deck is Bodyguard, from the Fossil expansion. First, here is the original Bodyguard:

Pokémon (23)
4 Zubat (Fossil)
2 Golbat (Fossil)
4 Grimer (Fossil)
1 Muk (Fossil)
4 Koffing (Base Set)
2 Bulbasaur (Base Set/Base Set 2)
3 Geodude (Fossil)
2 Graveler (Fossil)
1 Onix (Base Set)

Trainers (9)
4 Potion (Base Set)
2 Super Potion (Base Set)
1 Pokémon Center (Base Set)
2 Professor Oak (Base Set)

Energy (28)
16 Grass Energy
12 Fighting Energy

Now it was time to remake this classic for the Modified format.

I decided to redo my Muk line to a 3-2 line. It was easy; out with one Grimer, in with one Muk. I don't plan on any Powers in my deck, so I'll use the existing Muk (as it was re-released in Legendary Collection). I also went with the existing Grimer as well (same reason as Muk).

Now it was time to complete the Golbat line (it was complete at the time of press, but changed with the Neo sets). I did it at the expense of three Koffing. The entire line I made Neo Revelations (seeing as I couldn't use Skyridge Crobat with Muk very well).

Ultimately, I decided against the Geodude and Graveler (adding Steelix and Golem would have cost me space I need for Trainers). Thus I turned them into the Onix and Steelix I would thus use. I finished off my Pokémon with two Promo Cleffa and two Aquapolis Tyrogue.

Now, on to my Trainers. I didn't have a reliable Trainer moving engine, so Pokémon Center left the picture. It and the two Super Potions became Miracle Berry. Three of the Potion became Moo-Moo Milk (seeing as I'm remaking the deck for Modified). The last Potion and the two Oak became Copycat. Finally, I dropped 6 Grass Energy and two Fighting Energy for Trainers. Four Energy Stadium, two Fighting Cube 01s, and two Grass Cube 01s entered the picture.

And now, here is Bodyguard 2K3:

Pokémon (23)
4 Zubat (Neo Revelations)
3 Golbat (Neo Revelations)
2 Crobat (Neo Revelations)
3 Grimer (Legendary Collection)
2 Muk (Legendary Collection)
3 Onix (Southern Islands)
2 Steelix (Neo Genesis)
2 Cleffa (Promo)
2 Tyrogue (Aquapolis)

Trainers (17)
3 Moo-Moo Milk (Neo Genesis)
3 Miracle Berry (Neo Genesis)
3 Copycat (Expedition)
4 Energy Stadium (Neo Destiny)
2 Fighting Cube 01 (Aquapolis)
2 Grass Cube 01 (Aquapolis)

Energy (20)
8 Grass Energy
8 Fighting Energy
4 Metal Energy (Neo Genesis)

Any comments, fixes, and suggestions would be appreciated.

I dunno...you're going a bit heavy on energy and Pokemon, and your trainers lack signifigant draw power. And Moo-Moo Milk? Dude, GOLD BERRY! You might wanna toss in some stuff like Professor Elm, Town Volunteers, ditch the Promo Cleffa for Neo Genesis Cleffa, cut way back on the # of evolutions you're running and slap in some other baby stallers like Tryogue and possibly Pichu or Elekid (probably Elekid since you're running Muk).

Why do I like this job? Because the pay's good, the scenary changes, and they let me use explosives ^_^.

I think it's interesting that you opted to go away from skyridge crobat because it has a pokemon power that muk would shut off, but then you go for a steelix with a pokebody that muk would shut off. I'd suggest perhaps a switch to the genesis steelix, and the removal of most, if not all, of your fighting energy, to be replaced with metal energy and a few more trainers.

You've got three evolution lines to get out, including a stage 2, but only 3 cards which allow you to draw more cards? I know you likely have your reasons, but when you play, haven't you ever faced a situation where your opponent just seems so much faster at setting up than you? In most of my decks I run something like 4 elm, 3 copycat, and 4 pokemon trader (with some variance thereof), and I still think its too slow.

You've got 2 extremely gustable and lockable pokemon lines here (muk and aquapolis steelix...together, no less!), but no way of getting them out of the active slot. If I'm playing double gust, which many, many players do, my first target is your muk. My second target is your aquapolis steelix, especially once I discern that you're not running metal energy to power him up once you have muk in play. And if I'm running Murkrow, I bring up your steelix that can't attack and can't retreat, lock it, and spend the next ten minutes trying to decide if I should call over the judge to record my win by waving my hand, just politely raising my hand, taking off my cap and waving it, raising both hands...so many choices...

You've got 2 lines of pokemon with significant hit points, and you've opted for moo-moo milk as your only healing. I read these boards enough to see that you're probably the biggest fan of moo-moo milk there is, outside of baby miltank. I also know that you likely cannot be persuaded to add gold berry to your deck. I might disagree, but I accept that. Allow an alternative proposal, then: You run a staggering 4 energy stadiums here, with plenty of energy to boot. Even if you removed 4 fighting for 4 metal (I'd suggest removing all 10 fighting, adding 4 metal, 4 elm, and doing a bunch of other stuff, but I'll leave that be), you'd still have more than enough energy to keep this deck in power for the duration of the game. How's about hyper potion? Yes, it's a discard of an energy or two, but it's guaranteed healing, and its numbers are, on average, above moo-moo milk's (milk: average 20 damage removed...hyper potion: guaranteed 30 damage removed).

There are a slew of other suggestions I could make, since so much of this deck strategy, particularly aquapolis steelix + muk and the need for 4 energy stadium, eludes me. Could you perhaps post some results of your use of this deck, and what types of deck you were able to beat with this? I just have difficulty seeing the rationale behind much of this. I'd like to know more about the metagame in your area, since I'm afraid I've been perplexed by quite a few of your suggestions on the board recently. For example, is neo3 sneasel quite popular where you play? If that's the case, then I could see the logic behind not wanting to play as many gold berry, and opting instead for something like moo-moo milk.

Cheers,

Already fixed it. Neo Genesis Steelix is now in the line. It was either swap Steelixes or take out my Muk. (I did leave some Fighting Energy in because I'm using Aquapolis Tyrogue, which needs Fighting to attack.)

One reason I don't use Hyper Potion is because I'd have to discard 2 Energy to get the effects I'd get for one Energy with Super Potion in Unlimited, plus just 10 more damage removed. That, I think, is a bit too risky (in Unlimited, I could get 80 damage removed for the same price with 2 Trainers), but I'd take it over Gold Berry any day. The effect where Hyper Potion discards only one Energy removes a bit too little for my liking.

Pardon the error in set names, but I think I made it pretty clear in my post that I was referring to the steelix you had originally used: the one with the pokemon power. You asked for help with the deck, and I cheerfully offered what I could. The dig at me for the error is out of line, and not appreciated. If you are not interested in accepting constructive criticism for your deck, I suggest not posting as such in your text. I wish you luck with the deck and in all your pokemon matches, but with all due respect, this is the last time I will post comment or help for any of your decks.
