I played a fairly sucessful version of this deck in mf (top 8 in local DCI play)but it seemed then to fall short of the speed decks that were dominating. Since a lot of the players at York have been using mmf decks during sanctioned play under an "agreement" it gives me a chance to try it slightly tweaked for mmf and a few other metagame changes happening. Here's the decklist along with brief comments concerning my card choice logic (or lack thereof)
Gengreon
4 Fossil/LC Gastly (necessary and can bring back the special energies I am running)
2 Haunter
3 Fossil/LC Gengar (optimal to get two on bench)
2 Promo Eevee
2 Energy Evo Eevee
2 Umbreon (KO benched Pokemon after transferring damage using 2 benched Gengar)
1 Espeon (for Dark Gengar...who is being metagamed for Dark Gatr/King)
2 SI Jiggly (see above...and expected increase in Slowking combos in mmf)
3 Cleffa
21 Pokemon

4 Elm
3 Trader
2 Breeder
3 Gold Berry
3 Double Gust
3 Balloon Berry
2 Focus Band
2 Stadiums (here's where I am unsure of what to run...like Healing Fields but hate helping oponent)
22 Trainers

9 Psy energy
4 darkness Energy
2 Rainbow Energy
2 Full Heal Energy
17 Energy
Strategy is straighforward. Attack w/Umbreon while manipulating oponent's damage using Gengar's power to increase KO percentage. Hold out Jigglys unless against a King variant. Attack with Haunter and/or Gengar if against Psy decks in the event of Espeon being unavailable.
Help, flames, suggestions always welcome.

Looks good! Could use some more Focus (2 doesn't last to long) and maybe some Bill for some solid drawing power!

Trying to metagame dark gengar with espeon is like trying to win a bike race with flat tires.

Dark Gengar isn't weak to psy, and Espeon IS. Dark gengar is one of the worst matchups for espy, and if you do find a Dark Gengar, you're better off just sicking an umbreon on it with his resistance.

You know how much I hate breeder...and this is one of the times where you should take it out. Hanuter is solid, and you still can't attack with gengar until turn 3. And you probably won't do more than 10 damage on your first turn...do you really wanna sacrifice consistancy to curse 10 damage?

-2 Breeder
+2 Haunter

First turn lick, second turn nightmare, third turn dark mind > First turn lick, second turn BOO! big Scary Gengar!...go, third turn dark mind.

Then check out your retreat costs...the biggest one you have is a MASSIVE 1.

Drop all 3 baloon berries. Make them Bills.

The stadiums...healing fields = bad. The more damage on your opponent's side of the feild, the more you have to play with...err...curse...and the more whacky KO's you can acheive. If you just want a random countergym, sprout tower would be okay...but I'd play energy stadium here, because without baloon berries, you'll actually have to discard energies to retreat sometimes (whoa), and here you can get 'em back. Also consider pokemon tower to skrew with kingdra.

I'd also drop both full heal energies for another psy energy and a recycle energy...so you can pay your massive 1 retreat cost again and again. I wouldn't worry about status...outside of dark gengar, there's not much in MMF...and if you do get confused/poisoned...just pay the retreat cost.

4 Gastly
4 Haunter
3 Gengar
3 Cleffa
4 Eevee - Your choice...they're all cool.
2 Umby
1 Espy
2 Jiggly

4 Elm
3 Trader
3 Bill
3 GB
3 DGoW
2 Focus Band
2 Energy Stadium/Sprout/Pokemon Tower/Lucky Stadium

10 Psy Energy
4 Dark
2 Rainbow
1 Recycle

That's how I'd play it...go nuts. GL.

Thanx Brad....great fixes and suggestions all. Since I am so forgetful about Dark Gengar's lack of psy weakness, I may also drop the Espeon in favor of another Umbreon. The energy changes make perfect sense as does the loss of the Balloon Berries. Consider the changes made and I'll see you tonight to try it out.

LOL Gary!...jeeez...like HOW many times have we done this to each other concerning decks? I made the changes Brad suggested and it played well tonight. Looks like I will be the TO Sat, so no playing for me. Perhaps a match o two before the tourney starts eh?
The deck IS whacked...and it causes all kinds of worried looks on the opponent. Needs tuining, but this is a good starting place.
See you Sat.

No...don't do that...espeon is an awesome card by itself, and I'd say it's your best chance against big fire. Without energy charge (albeit you can use gastly, but you don't wanna) it'd be a real pain to get 3 umbreons powered, whereas an espy and it's required energy can be brought back via energy stadium/time capsule, making him much more available to you in the late game.
