My sister is going to play at a Unlimited Season Ending tournament Wednesday 1/8. Please help her improve her deck:
Old-school Fable deck
14 Pokémon: 2 Tyrogue 3 Electabuzz (Base) 1 Scyther (Jungle) 1 Erika's Jigglypuff 4 Clefairy (Expedition) 3 Clefable (Jungle)
32 Trainers: 4 Oak 4 Computer Search 4 Plus Power 3 Item Finder 3 Pokémon Center 2 Lass 2 Gust of Wind 2 Gold berry 1 Energy Stadium 1 Lucky Stadium 1 Time Capsule 2 Super Energy Removal 3 Energy Removal
14 Energy: 8 Lightning Energy 4 Double Colorless Energy 2 Recycle Energy
--
Strategy Get out Electabuzz and Clefable as fast as possible, and then keep Clefable out there as long as she can while healing it with Pokémon Center (returning the Recycle Energy to the hand).
Metagame: The top players will probably use Rocket's Zapdos/Hitmonchan, MetalChansey, Sneasel or Tyranitar. [ January 06, 2003, 07:29 AM: Message edited by: Golduck ]

She needs definately a 2nd Scyther. Both Electabuzz and Clefable are Fighting Weakness= Tyrogue > them.
- 1 Clefairy - 1 Energy Stadium - 1 Time Capsule
+ 1 Scyther + 1 Super Energy Removal + 1 Nightly Garbage Run
That would be all. Good Luck and see you around..

-1 Time Capsule sorry but it helps your opponent and hurts you. If you must have a recovery card, Nightly Garbage Run. -1 Lucky Stadium you have enough drawing power. -2 GoldBerry don't think these will do you any good. Focus Bands would probably be better.
No Slowkings in your area?????
For your area +1 Energy Stadium (i can't think of another Gym right now. Should run 2 to counter Sprout Towers). +1 Unown N - Good vs. Metal Chansey. And Tyranitar - if Trample one - will be as effective as an Unown D when Cleflable Metronomes Trample. +1 Gust of Win.
You know, maybe even drop Erika's Jiggly for another Gust of Win...
Boy if i could wedge in 2 more Recycles (great with Clefable, Center, and SER!) and even Cleffa i would.

Here is the new version of the deck, tweaked with some of the tips from you. We removed a Clefairy, going 3-3, removed the Erika's Jiggly and added another Scyther (for resistance to F) and a lone Cleffa just in case.
We also replaced Time Capsule with Nightly after you all advised so. The Lucky Stadium was going to be replaced by another Energy Stadium, but I can't find any!
Goldberry was not replaced with Focus Band because Goldberry is needed for Electabuzz. I don't like attaching Focus Band to him in my decks, and my sister agrees. It's good to remove the self-damage.
Thanks to all the nice ideas! Unown N was a great idea, but Pichu is very popular at Leauge, and Tyranitar can be stopped with Super Energy Removal, or she can just use Center after hitting her bench with Trample. Or Scyther can Slash Pupitar away...

That would be my guess on the metagame too. My son won his first trip to the WCSTS with a Fable deck. My fixes - -1 scyther - lose a weakness to fire -1 Buzz +2 R Zapdos - still have resistance to fighting -1 E Jiggly - too situational and you need to design a deck around it - just lose it. Without E Jiggly and Scyther you don't really need DCE. -4 DCE +2 Recycle +3 Cleffa
-1 Lucky Stadium +1 Energy Stadium -1 Pokemon center +1 Either Pokemon Nurse or Scoop up
If you wanted to do a Metal Zapdos I would probably: -1 CPU - you have plenty of draw -1 Oak -1 Recycle +3 Metal
So the Pokemon Lineup would be: 3 Cleffa 2 Tyrogue 2 Electabuzz 2 R Zapdos 4 Clefairy - bonus save Cleffa from a Krow Lock 3 Clefable (16) a nice trim figure

I found another Energy Stadium and replaced it with Lucky Stadium. My sister did quite well, she placed 3rd out of 12. She lost her semifinal in a very close match against a Sneasel/baby/Buzz haymaker. Clefable did "beat up" quite a few times, anyway. The second Scyther and the Nightly Garbage Run turned out to be very helpful. Thanks for all your advises!
