Hey all,
After seeing an increased amount of Espeon decks being played, I am confident that my Espeon Project was successful. The two goals of TEP was to first beat Crobat and/or Dark Muk with regular consistancy. The other was to prove to others that Espeon IS a viable contender in Modified Format, and it DOES have a place in the metagame. I worked countless hours trying to do the impossible, building a deck that I thought would stop both Feraligatr and Crobat. I tried this at the WCSTS 2001 with my Espeon/Revelation Jumpluff. I went a combined 9-7 over both days. The majority of my losses being Big Fire, I just did not play against enough Crobat or Gatr decks. Before and after the STS I tried soooo many different versions of Espeon. Combining it from everything from Sabrina's Kadabra to Giovanni's Nidorina. Afterwards I was convinced that Espeon couldn't work in Modified. However, since the current increase of Dark Muk and Crobat decks, Espeon can once again be used. My friend, Rocket's Sandshrew proved this at the Michigan Open tourney last weekend. My friends DrZap and Cleflytuff each earned trips to worlds with Espeon variants. So is this deck a contender? You be the judge, here's my deck, and IMO the most well rounded and successful version of TEP.
TEP: Ultima Version Modified Format
Pokemon: 17 4 Eevee(Discovery) 4 Espeon (Holo) 3 Cleffa 3 Pichu 2 Rocket's Scyther 1 Porygon (Rocket)
Energy: 17 11 Psychic 6 Grass
Trainers: 26 4 Professor Elm 4 Misty's Wrath 4 Focus Band 4 Double Gust 3 Rocket's Sneak Attack 3 Nightly Garbage Run 2 Chaos Gym 2 Resistance Gym
Strategy: I have posted like 25 decks, seriously, I hope you can understand how to play it by now. Here's a quick rundown of the big decks.
Espeon beats Dark Muk and Crobat. Espeon deals heavy damage to Big Fire. Accompany with Pichu and you're good to go. Rocket's Scyther and Pichu beat Feraligatr. The idea is to deal heavy damage with Espeon, and power up swarms of Espeon. With the majority of the cards in the deck being free retreat, and Scyther and Eevee only have 1, I can use Double Gust to nearly complete advantage without difficulty. Porygon is great Steelix tecH. Scenario: a Conversioned Steelix with 2 Metal, and 2 other Energy vs an Espeon. Espeon uses Psychic and deals 140 - 20 for the Metal, thats a OHKO on a Steelix. Use RSA and Chaos Gym for disruption as well.
Well there it is, the finale of all of my work. I am proud to be considered one of the starters and strategizers of this card. Whaddya think? [ June 13, 2002, 12:26 PM: Message edited by: Gymbo ]

Misty's Wrath reads:
"Look at the top 7 cards of your deck. Choose 2 of them and put them in your hand. Discard the rest"
Gym Heroes Uncommon. Next to Elm, and Focus Band, it's the best MF trainer.
Gymbo: Nice deck. As you know, I didn't like how my own personal version of Espeon + R. Scyther turned out, but maybe you can handle the deck better then me. Plus, yours does look different in many spots.
Here's a problem with playing Pichu with the Eevee's w/ powers: You are going to run into many situations where you are gonna have an eevee out, you can't energy evo (for whatever reasons), and your opponent is playing something with massive powers. i.e. Entei Magcargo. I like the LC/Jungle Eevee better with an Espeon deck that plays Pichu. You should be able to get out Espeon still quick enough. Maybe a turn later, but you'll still get it.

We like using the Promo Eevee (allows you to evolve Espeon whenever anyone evolves a Poke. Also gets around the Pichu issue.
With Promo Scyther out, it works a lot faster with Recycle Energy.
Nice deck, now need to tweak it for Neo-On Format for Worlds.

Yaay...go Espeon.
Anyway...just a few minor things...
I would switch to the LC/Jungle Eevee. I just don't like blowing 'em up with pichu. Keep in mind that your opponent may be playing pichu as well.
And if you do keep ND eevee, you can drop the 4th espeon. You're not gonna build 4, and with Energy Evolution, you'll get 'em out quick. Just don't play the 4th eevee on the bench until an espy dies and you can NGR it.
So my fix is either:
Switch Eevee to LC
or
-1 Espeon +1 RSA
Good Luck...and go Espy.

Jim: Now you know why so many of my Eevee variant decks have been running Umbreon lately. The Promo AND the Energy Evo versions DO set up quicker. If they survive your OPPONENT'S Zzapping, the Umbreon takes care of them usually a turn or two later. Umbreon loves the taste of freshly feinted Pichu, although a self-Zzapped Eevee laying in the discard doesn't smell quite as sweet, so I see Shrew's point. Otherwise, go w/Shrew's fix all the way...more disruption and still plenty Espeon for everyone. Great looking deck all around, but in the current mf format, the Scythers and Pichus still aren't enough to make me fearless against a Gatr. I understand the disruption is key there, but still, good luck against that freak.

Hey cool, lotsa replies...
Scizor37 and Umbreon396: Hey thanks. I've spent an awful lot of time, and taken quite a bit of negative criticism involving this deck. This deck is just so fast and covers the bulk of the popular decks currently in MF. Entei/Cargo can be difficult, but use Pichu and Chaos till you build up an Espeon or two...And Scizor, yea Xeodus covered what Wrath does. You need 4 of em in pretty much all of your Modified Format Decks.
Xeodus, RS, and Pokenaut: Thanks guys. Yea, I know the problems with Eevee(s)with Pokemon Powers. I like Promo more than Energy Evolution as a matter of fact. However, I just don't think LC is fast enough, and I have played long enough with this deck, so I know not to Bench Eevee early unless I have to. Plus whenever I play Eevee I have a Baby active, so they flip to Zzzap. I dunno, I don't have room to play Traders. I will continue testing. Thanks for replying!
Track Runner: I really am not afraid of Status. Espeon has free retreat, and I play 4 Double Gust. I will, however, keep that thought into consideraion. Thanks for your input.
Thanks everyone!
