Hello everyone,

Upset and angry at the Aquapolis Scizor for just being so damn irritating and overpowering, (Check my theory and reasons why in the Cards and Strategy section.) I think I've come up with a way to beat Scizor. Using none other than, yeap, you guessed it, my Expedition Feraligatr. When I battled against Scizor in the past I came very close to beating it outright anyways. Now let me explain how my new change makes this Gatr deck not only able to beat Scizor, but better overall. Sit back and enjoy the evolution of Ferrelligatr...

Ferrelligatr [Evil Smirk]
Modified Format²

Pokemon: 19
4 Totodile (Rage)(The beginning of the end...)
4 Croconaw (Expedition)(Metal Take Down turn three leading to the Rending Jaws is just godly)
3 Feraligatr (Expedition)(The big bad beast himself. Major Tsunami is broken and Rending Jaws is mad damage)
2 Cleffa (The infamous card-drawing squeaker is cut due to Slowking's ban)
2 Magby (Sputter...retreat...Rending Jaws...KO)
2 Tyrogue (Counter Fighting Pokemon and possibly Rogue some babies)
1 Skarmory (Genesis)(Counter Water Resistant Grass Pokes)
1 Elekid (Flip to damage the opponent early. Fan Club sure loves this Pokemon)

Energy: 16
10 Water (Main Energy Source)
4 Metal (Metal Gatr needs Metal Energy...)
2 Recycle (Baby Food and retreat aid for Toto and Croc)

Trainers: 25
4 Professor Elm (Primary Drawing Source)
4 Pokemon Trader (Pokemon Advantage)
4 Gold Berry (120 HP...Metal Energy...this just seems to fit for some reason)
4 Double Gust (Bench advantage)
3 Copycat (Secondary Drawing Source)
2 Memory Berry (Use this card especially as Feraligatr. Rage with Totodile to finish Pokemon)
2 Pokemon Fan Club (Aid/Secondary to Pokemon Trader)
1 Professor Oak's Research (Useful when the opponent has little to no hand. Secondary Drawing)
1 Town Volunteers (Better than Time Capsule. Get back Pokes/Energy)

New Strategy (Memory Berry): Memory Berry is my newest sick twist to the deck. I changed the Totodiles from the Fury Swipes variety to the Rage ones. Memory Berry attached to a severely damaged Feraligatr allows for Rage to occur. What's the advantage to that? Well if the opponent DGs up Gatr and hits it very hard I can attach the Memory Berry to the damaged Gatr and use Rage for high damage. If Gatr has taken 60 damage, then Rage does as much damage as Rending Jaws. So if Gatr has taken 80-110 damage I can do some very high damage for WC. I can "sacrifice" that Gatr and focus on another one. Next, I can KO undamaged Pokemon if Gatr is severely damaged. Memory Berry is a sick trick to use on the opponent. I originally planned on using this in my earlier stages of testing, however ruled it out because I could defeat Steelix without it. I cannot defeat Scizor with high efficiency without the Memory Berry.

Old Strategy: The idea is to get the Gatr rolling as soon as you can. Now, you can do this several different ways. The beauty of this deck is that its so tricky, you can go in so many directions. The biggest strategy to use if the opponent plays Gold Berries (and even if they don't) is to get the Croconaw Take Downing by turn 3 with a Metal for the 30 and 0 self. Next turn, evolve and hit them for 60. Gold Berry ruins this deck, and if you attack them as Croc or Gatr for 30, you have them the following turn. All you do is use Logic. If you see that their main attacker has 80 HP, for example Espeon, you can Sputter with Magby for 10. And if they EVER send it up vs your Gatr it dies the following turn. This deck works differently than any other because you use Magby, Elekid, and Tyrogue to "mark" the opponent's threat and kill it with Gatr. That's why you can afford to Double Gust an Espy and Sputter it. Because once it's all ready, you just finish with Gatr. The most important aspect of Feraligatr is not its attack, but it's Pokemon Power Major Tsunami. You use this EVERY turn (assuming you have a baby on your Bench). Not only do you switch Gatr out of possible harm, but you can really mess the opponent's setup up. If the opponent only has 1 Baby out and it's active with Gatr, you get first crack on whatever's on their Bench. You also Major Tsunami late game to get a last prize off of the opponent's Benched baby if you need to. The Magby + Rending Jaws combo I've mentioned in my previous versions is still very effective. Again, when using this deck, use logic. See how much HP their main attacker has, get enough damage on them under the 40 damage mark and clean with Feraligatr. With a Metal Energy, 120 HP, and 4 Gold Berries, it's not very easy to take down one Gatr. And then when you power up another...well it's not pretty for the opponent. I'll tell you that. [[Wink]] My drawing line is pretty shnazzy. I play the standard 4/4 Elm and Trader. But I also play 3/1 Copycat/Oak's Research. Why the Research? Well there's times where the opponent has like 3 cards in their hand and you REALLY need some drawing. Well...Research gets you a solid 5 cards. The average number of cards you draw from Copycat is 5-7. So I mean...logically, it makes sense. I also play 2 Pokemon Fan Club. I am a changed man. I thought the card is overhyped, and it still is, but it IS good. Not godly enough to play 3-4 in every deck, but they make a nice accompaniment to Trader, especially for the tecH cards like Skarmory and Elekid. They're not bad for pulling a Totodile or two either. Everything else is pretty much explanitory.

There it is. My Metal Expedition Gatr deck. The deck has always done well for me. This new Memory Berry twist may be all that I need to put away Scizor and Steelix for good. I am thinking about playing another Memory Berry if this combo works out.

Good day Gymbo,
shhh
LOL
I am playing memory berry in my son's gatr sec deck with fury swipe toto. He's (my son) a big fan of focus hand and uses the berry before he is able to set up the gatr sec/water nrg in the dicard pile thingy. In your application with all gold berry's, it may be hard to do max damage but 70 or 80 is still alot of damage. I'm sure you'll work around it though. As far as the draw engine, we have been playing oaks research up here for a while. Good players get smart to copy cat and play the maximum amount of cards during early game set up. It's a way under rated card IMO.
Cheers,

Gymbo - Great article and deck. I never bothered to use Metal in my Exp. Gatr. deck but you convinced me. I dont think AQ Scizor is that big of deal. Any good Cargo/Entei deck can take it down. Also it loses its resistance to grass also. Gatr can take that and the Fire decks down easily.
