here's a deck I built a long time ago, when only base set 1 was out. i dug it up, and it looked pretty good, and i think it could stand a chance against some of the new decks. not really a tourney winner, but it will give a good fight to any deck.

POKEMON (19)

4 Hitmonchan
3 Staryu
4 Eevee
3 Vaporeon
3 Jigglypuff
2 Wigglytuff

ENERGY (20)

13 Water Energy
7 Fighting Energy

TRAINERS (21)

4 Bill
2 Professor Oak
4 Pluspower
4 Gust of Wind
4 Energy Removal
3 Energy Retrieval

straighforward. all about speed and quick kills. works pretty good. has the standard card drawing, and combat trainer cards.

any comments? oh, and just a note, if you plan on "modifying" the deck, please limit it to the base set, jungle, and fossil cards only. i want to see if this is really a pre-neo winner.

pre-NEOs rule. i bet these two decks posted could take out the big decks and archtypes out today. all pre-NEO lovers, let us come together! feel free to post your pre-NEO decks and let us bask in pre-NEO glory. it's not that i do not like the NEO cards, but the TCG was so much fun way back then.

Hey, I am a user of the pre-neo's also. I have a deck that has never been beaten and never let me down. I use to compete but have stopped recently, and have gone to just (fun-play). I plan to start competing again next month, but it's an awesome deck. A good mixture of basic quick-hit, cards with more hard hitters to back it up. Also a good pokemon power, used to evolve your pokemon. It also has good trainers. If you have any suggestions I'm more than happy to accept them. I also love all of your decks. PRE-NEO'S RULE!!!!!!!!!

Pokemon (20)

1 Evee
2 Evee (Rocket)
1 Jolteon
1 Dark Jolteon
2 Dratini
1 Dratini (Rocket)
2 Dark Dragonair
1 Dark Drogonite
2 Jigglypuff
1 Wigglypuff
1 Ditto
2 Clefairy
1 Clefable
2 Farfetc'd

Trainers (18)

2 Bill
2 Energy Removal
2 Energy Retrieval
1 Gust Of Wind
1 Mr. Fugi
1 Pokedex
3 Potion
1 Professor Oak
1 Revive
1 Super Potion
1 Super Energy Removal
2 Switch

Energy (22)

18 Lightning Energy
3 Double Colorless Energy
1 Potion Energy

I found Ditto helpful in my old-school haymaker, just in case someone evolved a pokemon before I could gust it in and knock it out.

"Oh, you have a Charizard?, so do I!"

I won't be playing it, but there will be at least one Hitmonchan/Electrobuz type deck coming out at the SBZ this weekend. My kid is looking hard for a Syther replacement and is replacing the energy removal with more card drawing.

That's for the back-up. I haven't really run into any problems with the deck yet. There have been some close calls, but in the end it'll usually come thrue. The combo of the Evelutionary light to keep stronger pokemon coming, and Summom Minions to fill up the bench for Wigglytuff, it's a good deck.
