It will be different that is true. From what I have picked up there isn't a single unified pokémon game in Japan. The Gym block was considered a seperate game. So maybe the ADV sets will be a different game too. Change is a little scary but change can be good too.

I think the business of Pokemon has the chance to get better with Nintendo.

Here's why...

When Wizards goes to Toys 'R' Us and says "We're looking for places to sponsor organized play," what weight does Wizards carry? Granted, they're a division of Hasbro, but only a division.

If Nintendo goes to Toys 'R' Us, I believe that they (Nintendo) will carry a lot more weight.

Nintendo brings a mainline merchandising credibility to the table. Wizards seems more of a niche/"boutique" marketer.

Im sure the game will become better with Nintendo supervising everything. After all, they are the creators of the Pokemon games. From what i have seen in spoilers, it looks like they are trying to make the game a little bit more like the game.
Just like what jesschow said about having 2 weaknesses/resistances and having over 120 HP and powerful attacks. That's what it's like in the GameBoy games. The pokemon have multiple weaknesses, multiple resistances, and have HP that is WAY over 120 HP. Just look at Expedition Charizard, Blaine's Arcanine (Gym Challenge), and Dark Tyranitar (Destiny). They have attacks that can KO the strongest of Pokemon cards that already exist (different story with Dark Tyranitar, though). Even though the game would become a little more complicated due to the changes, it might be for the good of the game.
Just look at movies that are becoming video games. Some games revolve around the movie script(like Star Wars), and some dont revolve completely around the movies (like the 007 games). If you think so negativly about what might happen to the card game, then i suggest you should call or write a letter to Nintendo about your concerns.

I would think that, since Pokemon:TCG is a single, unified game in most countries, Nintendo would edit the new cards to fit with the existing ones. Of course, if their new strengths are appropriately compensated for with new weak points, then that may not be necessary...

http://www.nintendo.com/news/news_articles.jsp?articleId=8444&articlePageId=2

quote:
Q: Is the Pokémon-e TCG compatible with the game product released by Wizards of the Coast?

A: The cards will feature the same card back, and the game itself is 100% compatible with previous releases.

So stop worrying. If Nintendo/TPC restricts sets, it'll be in some sort of Modified format.

Exactly as Orange soda said, the cards will be rotated out just like our current Modified Format:

quote:
Phil: Wizards of the Coast introduced several playing formats to Pokemon Trading Card Game in the past years. Some of them are similar to the DCI Sanctioned Magic Formats. Will we see the basis of these formats continue on with Nintendo?

Pokemon USA: As far as formats go, we don't anticipate much change. The floor rules will be revamped slightly, hopefully making it easier to read while keeping the same spirit of the game.
