Well, all the NY professors got an e-mail today asking if they could help with the Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire event at the Pokemon Center this weekend (I got one because the list of Master professors still lists me as being from NY). I senjt an e-mail to correct my location to PUI and got this back:
quote: Hopefully, when we roll out the PUI volunteer program, you'll be able to update your own volunteer profile, so you won't have to rely on anyone else to update stuff like your location anymore!
Thanks anyway though,
Dave Schwimmer
Sounds like there's a replacement for the prof program in the works.

I recieved an email from OP. I asked for prize support for a tourney we are putting on this Saturday, June 14th in Portland Oregon. They said that they could not help with prizes at this time, and that they got a little too aggressive with there timing on OP. That they still have a contract with Wizards. So this was interesting. I was thankful to get an email from them.

I just got an email today asking for volunteers to man the Nintendo booths at Origins and Gencon. They're looking for 2 hr shifts and willing to give out a promo and 6 packs of Pokemon EX cards per hour or something like that. basically they want professors and such to demo the game and teach.
[edit: This was not a public announcement. They sent it to who they wanted to get it. Don't post private communications without approval!! -Pop] [ June 19, 2003, 06:35 PM: Message edited by: WizPoG_Pop ]

So Nintendo will be at those events. But sounds like no tournaments like we thought.

You really shouldn't be posting his email address.

"Greeting Pokemon Professors" does not strike me as a private communication. I wasn't aware that his email was at the bottom but I fail to see that it's that big a deal - course it wouldn't be the first time I failed to grasp the severity of a situation. Perhaps you guys are concerned that if he gets an email mini-flood he will stop listening altogether. Not to be a jerk about it but I don't really think I need anyone's permission to publish anything that is sent to me unless confidentiality is requested which it was not. We're professors of a card game - not a secret society with mumbo jumbo and recognition handshakes. This was Pokemon news and I published it as such. Mostly because of the hours requested I doubt there will be enough Professors to fill 'em - especially with all the socializing and events to be part of!

Since as far as I know, at least the way they talked today when I talked to them, they check the boards all the time. If they wanted to have everyone have it they would have posted it on there website. Hence the first line "Hello Pokemon Professors" not hello everyone, please let everyone in the world read this" that would be kinda like posting MTM's office number or email address on here. If they wanted everyone to know, they would have it on there webpage.

oops
but seriously most company emails I get have a disclaimer at the bottom about virus's, confidentiality and opinions expressed by the sender. Was this present?
Does anyone know if the list was sent to all the profs and master profs in the USA? [ June 20, 2003, 04:23 AM: Message edited by: NoPoke ]

Nope - nada. Seemed like a very informal letter. I think there's just a bit of paranoia with some of the others here - they've been holding their breath too long.

Notice that we did not delete your summary of the letter. Just the actual letter itself.
Especially his e-mail address! There are board rules about posting other people's personal info. It is not for you or I to decide that someone personal info is free for all the world to see.
We never deleted any posting of MTM's e-mails because he had access to the boards and could delete them himself. Cross posting an e-mail from another company... that's another story.
Paranoia? No, just good sense.
Anyway, feel free to get back to actually discussing the content of the e-mail.

Hehehe... guess I am quoting myself Anyway, I talked to Jimmer from Pokemon-USA on the phone yesterday. He said that anyone who sent in aps to become TO for Nintendo will be hearing from them in about 3-4 weeks. They are not wanting to step on Wizards toes while Wizards still has the license to run OP. He also said that even if you were not accepted they would email you and let you know this.
I told him about my problems at the stores I run league at getting cards to sell and told him about my call to one of the dealers that Nintendo had given to me to contact and he forwarded me to Dean at nintendo who is in charge of sales. Dean said that they had given me the list of Video Game Dealers and not the list for the TCG dealers. He said that he would make sure that customer service knew the difference so that the mistake wouldn't be made again in case other stores needed to get the stuff. I was told this info would only be given to stores, not individuals. The distributor I talked to required a tax ID #, a copy of the merchant certificate with the tax id on it, pics of the outside of the store, and a credit card number to charge stuff to. Pretty much the same thing Wizards had required.
Jimmer was still unsure if they would be distributing the OP stuff directly from Pokemon USA or through there card distributors. I told him I thought that going through them (pokemon usa) would allow them to know where the leagues are run instead of trying to get all the dealers to keep track who they sent it out to. He said they would keep that in mind. He couldn't give me any info on when leagues would be starting until Wizards was done with there OP.
I found all this information very pleasing and it did show they had plans in place for OP, they just couldn't release info on it until Wizards is finished with there part of OP. Hope this helps anyone that had questions. Nintendo is wanting to support small stores and large chains. The way it sounds, as long as you want it at your store, you can get it if the store owner wants to.
