I have been thinking about this for a while now. I wanted to get the general consensus as to the viability of this idea.

Seeing as how the United Kingdom has a "Team" site, dedicated to players in that that region, and Europe has a similar "Team" site with a membership of 90 + players and growing, and also seeing as how this has kept the crucial sense of "community" for these two regions in tact, I was wondering why not have something for the Americas (North and South American continents). I would have a website dedicated to players from these regions, it would contain news, events, and other revelevent happenings with regards to Pokemon in these two regions.

Most importantly, at least I feel, it would maintain the sense of community that is vital to keep the game thriving in these two regions.

That is my THOUGHT, I would like to hear others opinion on this idea, good, bad or indifferent.

Because if I get enough response, I'll head up such a "Team".

Take Care,

Skywolf1

P.S. - Any Pokemon Players from Down Under (Austrailia) who'd be interested in forming a "Team Austrailia" let me know, and I can help with that one as well. [Smile]

There ARE several small teams about everywhere... I remember a while back, there was the COM (Circle of Masters) and other such smaller teams. But a large team like that, would we be able to get people to join would be excellent.

Well, I have two thoughts:

1) Anything which builds community is a good thing. It is the community that sustains interest in the game over time, and it is the reason why Pokémon survives.

2) Anything that creates an 'us vs. them' mentality, or which excludes people, is a bad thing. Some of the 'teams' formed in the past were really used to promote elitism and exclusion.

So, I have mixed feelings about the idea. It could be great, if the pitfalls are avoided. But, if it turns into regionalist snobbery (which know Skywolf would not tolerate either) then it will do more harm than good.

I suppose the question is: What would forming this team accomplish that the current community structure does not, and how?

I guess it could work.
We could all have this huge tourny where each region would send reps to the tourny for a pokemon card battle. It would be great, and the winner gets a huge country for their team as well as Pokemon TCG cards( alot of them).

I personally believe the idea is great. The name?
How about, "Pokemon TCG Core Group" [Big Grin]

lol, the name actually works, and even demands respect from the newbies! But would this team be only Midwesterners, or the entire US?

Well... I personaly don't think the US, or the Americas for that matter, really needs a "Team" to form a sense of community. After all, what do you think Wizard's Pokémon site and the Gym are? I think our community is just fine how it is right now.

While "Teams" have helped Pokémon Thrive in other regions, the US hasn't really needed one. Everyone in the Western Hemisphere has seemed to be able to get through just fine without one.

Besides, there are alredy lots of sites dedicated to helping out the Pokémon Comunity (Zeo, PokéSchool, PA!, The Labs, and Wizards come to mind). And these sites try for a more global unity with the community.

Act local, Think Global!

Forming and seperating the community into different regional "Teams" can only do more harm than good.

Now, P.O.P (Pokémon Orginized Players) Groups, that could be OK. Kinda like MUGs (Mac User Groups), Different regions or Cities can form them. That makes it much easier and each chapter trys to help out its small area. Instead of a large regional area. But it can still kinda end up with the same problems.

Either way, I don't really see a big use for the larger "Teams".

Just my thoughts [Wink]

If you want my honest opinion, I think "Team America" is probably as broad as it can get. It'll be like making a "Team Pokémon TCG Players". I really fail to see how it would benefit the current state of the game.

Teams work when its members have a common enemy, and thus your team put all their effort into beat that enemy. Unfortunately I don't think it works as good in the Americas than it does elsewhere. I mean Team Europe's common enemy is death itself (or at least Wizards Europe), but the game isn't bleeding as badly here Stateside as it could be, at least not enough to justify a team to defend the game. Nor is there any other region of players that we feel we need to defeat by creating a team.

Concerning communities; there are plenty of them online. GreatFox listed a number of popular sites you could join and build rather than starting one from scratch. And need I mention that WizPOG too needs community support as much as everyone else! (PA! especially, being dead for a year has hurt our hit rate! [Razz] )

Personally I don't think making a Team America will solve many problems. It'll only sugar coat them.

Mmm for once Marsh I have to disagree with you! As a European looking in I agree with GreatFox

The perception is that the WotC Site and WizPog are primarily a US resource. If you look at the European and UK sites you will easily see why Team Sites have grown up. Because the official sites are so bad!

Now we in the UK are addressing this by working with WotC UK to help update the look and provide content for the WotC UK site.

Team USA/Americas already exists and it is here on this board and the main pokemon pages IMHO.

Let me know when you want to start a team Antarctica. [Wink]

No, sorry, I don't think we're at that point that NA needs a player's union. That would probably make things more political, which hasn't really helped here. Europe is a whole other ball game, however.

Team Europe was created for teamwork, and community, and to be "strong togther". I feel that European players all feel as a whole, and aren't seperated.

USA has the problem that the community is very seperated in some ways. It's always a "us VS you" among the players. "Pojo-people" VS "Wizpog-people", "Pokeparents" VS "Poketeenagers", "leetists" VS "for-fun-players", "Wizards supporters" VS "Wizards haters", "Modified-fans" VS "Unlimited-players" and so on.

A Team America would bring people together, and create a whole community. But is it possible? It might be hard. There are too many players! But what about creating State teams? Team Texas, Team New Jersey, Team Florida etc. Then all the Pokeparents, leetists, Pojoids and Wizpoggers from... let's say Texas, could feel as a team.

But it is always hard to keep up the team spirit. Team Europe has also had its problems and fights. People who quit the team, people who felt it should be parted in two, and so on. But we've managed to keep it alive.

And no, sorry i don't advocate a Team America - this place here is TA (even you Europeans but you need TE as there are specific problems related to Europe that TE has/can/does address). Unlike those obstacles that effect only Europe, if something effects WotC doesn't it also effect the rest of the world? TA to me is right here on these boards.
