OK folks, we have passed the Caution phase and moved into the need for a Warning. The tone of the discussions here is bordering on the unacceptable. We have guidelines here at the PokeGym that instruct our members to keep their posts confined to the facts and not to "get personal" for any reason, good or bad. Several of you are very close to that line with some of the things you have said.

As I said, we have moved past a Caution, where the thread will just get locked and are now into a Warning situation. If things continue along the current lines, the thread will get locked and those people making comments about specific individuals will quite possibly get a temp ban. Let's move on with life and look forward to the next event. We can certainly learn from our past experiences, but to dwell on them too long does no good.

I'm very tired, but it seems that the name of this topic is 'The NEW Page for all European Tournament & Leagueplay - post Amsterdam SC 2002 '

Please stop talking about what happened in Amsterdam, just take all of that as a lesson for the future.

If you want to have individual discussions about 'who did what or not', please do it by mail, not on the boards. I understand that it could be very important for each of you who were involved in these incidents, but I'm not sure the whole community is really interested in that, and certainly not the way it is posted here.

Almost all the people who've written in this topic have a sign under their name ... did you see the Professor mentioned there ???
(BTW, could you please, BDS, put a sign under Mew's name asap ? I'm afraid he doesn't sleep anymore because of that [ROFL] )

Is that the behaviour of a Professor ? Is it that way that Professors will be the leaders of the community ?
I know that some people are Professors for playing in main events only, but all of the people who have that title, every one of us, has responsabilities towards the community, the younger players, ...
If kids at your league had to have that kind of behaviour, YOU would ban them from the league !

Stop it, now ! All these posts are bad for us, for our game, for our community, for our team, and for you too.

Sorry guys, but there are more important questions than putting a Focus band on a grass energy on a Croconaw at 2 pm and giving a warning to the head judge bacause Rochester had moved to somewhere else (or something like that) if we want to be credible, if we want to keep our game alive, if we want to see it going further.

I'm generally a cool person, but now I'm fed up with all these things.
Who did accuse Wizards to kill the game ? I think you've found the best way to do it [Mad]

There were things that were not that good in Amsterdam. I'm not talking about individual problems, but about the Prof event.
Isn't it more interesting to examine these points, try to propose solutions, try to understand what happened, ...
It will be, in my opinion, far more interesting for everybody, and for the Profs who are TO's too, than what I've read here.

Just forgotten a precision ... talking about the Prof event doesn't mean shooting on a guy or another, shooting on WotC Europe, it means to talk like adults about a question that can be a very interesting lesson if we see it in a positive way.

Well, as the topic is titled European Tournament and league play 2002, I'll chat about that :-)
I think there should be a big meet up of Amsterdam Crew/ T.E at Gencon UK - It'll be a blast, and the UK Professors are definately getting accomodation paid for them, as well as a display of boosters each day for work :-D I'm sure more help would be needed....
Anyways, Freddy is going to tell me all about it on Sunday, aren't you Freddy ? [Confused]

Hello Everybody

I have a last thing to say-repeat about the Professor Event in Amsterdam. Officially this topic is now closed but as I told everyone we had a debrief meeting last thurday I thought Ild get you this last update.

As I already mentioned earlier, we do apologise for running the Professor Event the way it did. There are many things that cause many problems and I really dont want to point fingers or make accusations. To put it down shortly, we learned from the experience and we will not organise a Professor Event alongside a main tournament anymore in future.

Secondly we do realise that many of you had to leave before the tournament was close to finishing because of the late startingtime (and the early announced start time). I said I would recommend a compensation and it has been approved.

Rerunning the event or sending you to another Gym Challenge is absolutely not an option for many reasons. All of you will be contacted to double check your addresses. If you participated in the Prof Event and havent heard from us by wednesday next week then please contact me at [email protected]

Last thing, I think we know by now how all of you feel. Many of your comments have been taking into consideration and lessons have been learned. As the moderator indicated, this topic is closed but
If you feel the need to reply or send us your thoughts, do feel free to email.

Ann

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

This is for a UK event. Meaning I'm afraid that it's not a free-for-all for any old Professor on the continent to get a few nights in for playing Pokémon! [Eek!]

I do have details, and have spoken to a few people from the boards who were in Am about it already. There is for one, NO guarantee of a Professor event. So, for all those thinking about coming, WAIT AND SEE.

Secondly, if there was a Prof event, as it is AFTER Worlds 2002 you CAN'T make it to Worlds 2002. If that makes sense. And IF there was a trip.

As known already, WotC-UK is a separate body from WotC-Europe, with a much smaller budget. I would not be surprised to see only UK players being able to participate in helping out there or competing in any major events, unless there was a really good reason for it.

I quite agree with Toonpark's last comment, by the way. For me Am is in the past. I want to work as much as I can, with WotCUK and WotCEurope, to help things get better for the future.

Bringing stuff up like people have, outside the realms of general points for discussion, will not help matters. Let's just not hope that someone else comes on, sees something that they don't like in my posts or anyone elses, and cause some major upset that would necessitate the intervention of the mods.

Can I just say 'thank you' to the Mods and to Ann, for bearing with this fallout? [Smile]

Ann - have you considered following the US's lead and hosting an event or possibly events at WotC-European HQ?

I'm happy to see your last post Freddy, it's that kind of reaction that will make us and the game go forward.

Concerning the GenCon event, some remarks :
1. if it is a DCI event, it is open to everybody who's not uneligible. There nothing else to say : DCI event = everybody (including foreign players) admitted.

2. The qualifiers and Prof events are for Worlds 2003. It's mentioned on the GenCon website

3. I'll send a mail to Lee in order to know if foreign judges are accepted and if the hotel is paid. I've called Ann Van Dam about it today, but she told me that Lee was the person to contact.

4. Please check the GenCon website. I hope these information are correct. As soon as I have other news, I'll let you know.

What about a meeting Wizards UK/Wizards Europe/Professors in London (MTM welcome !) like Sentimental Blastoise proposes ? I'd be really happy if this could happen.

i have found out, after ringing lee(who is on holiday, so dont try it ) that because it is the magic season, he has encountered a backlog of mail and has not been ignoring nlt us, just waiting untill the time is right.

I have also discovered, but do not quote him or me on this because he seemed to be in a rush of some sort, that he will pick six or so professors to benifit from the free accomedation.

I hope that i get picked to judge there though, otherwise, seeing as i am only 15 without a job, i could not afford Ł30 a night.

Seeing as we have to buy the following ourselves anyway:
food,
travel,
stuff (sorry, ran out of things to put)

this would be a bigger sum to add on top of already increasing expensis.

so unfortunatly, although i may want to come to Gen-Con uk and meet you all again, it seems that i could only afford food and travel at a push, and if i am not picked as a worthy judge to help at this event with free room. i will not be able to come at all.

Sorry if this news is false or misinterprated in some way, but as i sed, do not quote me.

thanks

mazzy

Hi players arround Europe,

I think most of you know, why I couldn't be in Amsterdam ...

IMO theres no reason to be angry of Eskil, he's a good player like other of us in TeamEurope. It was late and we should be happy, that one of TeamEurope has got the ticket to Seattle.

But!! ... Fairness in MUST be in a GAME ... is doesnt have to be Pokemon.

A game is there to have fun, but some players are thinking the only goal (?) is to !!WIN!!, IMO thats the wrong way of thinking of a game.

A game is just that fun, if everyone plays fair and when players want to cheat ... they will get their punishment [Big Grin]

We should show to each other some respect. Is it in reallife or per chat of something like that.

Doesnt matter of you win or lost, the most important is that it was a good game, with no cheating action, or something like that ...

That what happened in Amsterdam was very strange ... starting a Tournament that late is very stupid ...

If Professors want to Judge the MainEvent, they can Judge them and if other Profs want to play the Prof Event they should play them, and dont have to wait for the other people ... Or was it another reason?

Correct me, if there was something wrong.

The non-good-english-writer [Big Grin]
