I need some help with how people play at League.
Answer these three questions.
1. League Location:
2. People typically play Modified or Unlimited?
3. When/If you hold Tournaments they are typically Modified/Unlimited.
Your answers could change the course of History...or at least help.
Gengar and I and I thank you.

1. League Location: Dragon King in St. Peters/St. Charles, Missouri (St. Louis Area)
2. Players usually play Modified. Some play unlimited, but the competition of the higher players is usually modified, for the younger and older players.
3. Tourneys, non-league are usually modified. The one unlimited tourney I threw had pretty poor feedback. Everyone complained about poor sneasel - our players want him thrown in the box for all play. Most of our players prefer Draft. Our Battlezone tourneys will be Modified, to gear our players for the GC and SC formats.
Hope this helps...see you on the boards.

1. League Location:
Wizards of the Coast, Clackamas Oregon
2. People typically play Modified or Unlimited?
Younger players usually play Unlimited due to the fact that they don't always have a lot of cards. They use what they have. Older players and some of the kids who are involved in the tournament scene prefer Modified.
3. When/If you hold Tournaments they are typically Modified/Unlimited.
It's about 2 to 1 Unlimited to Modified, largely because some of the newer players don't have Modified decks yet. I'd say the tide is turning toward Modified though. We've been encouraging players without a modified deck to buy a Theme deck and tweak it.

2. The kids at League have played Unlimited now ever since we started back in January 2002. But lately, they've started to find information about Modified on the internet and requested Modified tournaments. We'll start to play Modified/Unlimited every second week now.
3. As said, all our League tournaments are Unlimited. But the tournaments "in the city" (Oslo, that is) are mostly Modified or TMP. There are more "pro" players there, and fewer beginners, so Modified is the choice there.

1) Fantasy Gameland, Coventry RI
2) Most play Modified. New members usually have Unlimited decks but some occasionally show up with Modified.
3) 75% of the Sanctioned tourneys held are Modified. Most of the Leaguers (now BZers) want Modified. Unlimited tourneys were held so those with only Unlimited decks could play and try to win the foil energy cards. Most players with only Modified decks also played in the Unlimited tourney (Modified tourney was held after the Unlimited). For BattleZone, currently we have 4 Modified and 1 Unlimited scheduled. Continued Unlimited tourneys will depend upon what the BZers think about Sneaselfest, i mean the Unlimited tourney.

League Location: York Comics and cards. Parma, Ohio
Format played: Except for a rare match involving a newer player who doesn't have the cards needed, it's ALL modified constructed. There are a number of players here that have won trips and such, and playtesting is always on their minds for the bigger events and Sat. tournaments.
Tournaments: The first tournament of year 3 League was a sanctioned Unlimited. It has been all modified since then with only a couple people requesting Unlimited. We play sanctioned every Sat.

1. League Location: Wizards of the Coast Stores at Sea Tac Mall, South Hill Mall and South Center Mall (all located in the Greater Seattle Washington area)
2. People typically play Modified or Unlimited?
Prior to starting a match, players decide what type of deck they will play against each other. More modified is played at the league level, however some unlimited decks are played. Older more experience players play unlimted to keep those skills sharp. Younger players play what ever they can get their hands on. Also, plenty of older more experienced players/adults/professors/ parents donate cards to help the younger players fix their decks.
3. When/If you hold Tournaments they are typically Modified/Unlimited.
We often have a great response to tournaments.
To help keep Pokemon League fresh, there have been several tournaments held over the last few months.
Legendary 40 Card Sealed Deck from 5 Legendary Booster Pack Swiss format Unlimited 60 Card Constructed Common Cards Only No Rare or Uncommon Cards Team Rocket Booster Draft 40 Card Deck from 5 Team Rocket Booster Packs Unlimited Booster Draft 40 card deck using four or five Fossil Booster Packs Random Draw Unlimited Theme Deck Tournament Swiss Format (like at Worlds) Modified Constructed 60 Card Decks Informal Team Player Tournaments DCI Sanctioned Modified Constructed 60 Card Decks Modified Booster Draft 40 card decks using four or five Neo Series Booster packs Swiss Format Unlimited Booster Draft 40 card decks using five Base Set 2 booster packs Swiss Format
Hope this helps.......

2. People typically play Modified or Unlimited? Currently, Unlimited; the vast majority of my players are <12s and brand new to the game, or older but returning to the game... so I want them to be able to play the cards they already have. That's also the reason our first tourney after finally getting our "missed" kits was unsanctioned: that was the first experience with tourney play for many of them.
3. When/If you hold Tournaments they are typically Modified/Unlimited. Before I got my influx of new players, we were playing Modified; but with all the new players (formerly collectors, so guess how the decks look? 1-1-1 lines, anyone? ) I went back to Unlimited, just so they can use what cards they have. I'll be moving towards Modified/sanctioned play after the New Year.

League Location(s): Tim Boal's Comic Oasis 1 and 2, Las Vegas Nevada
Format(s) played: Both Modified and Unlimited, as well as TMP and Monthly Booster Drafts.
When/If you hold Tournaments they are typically Modified/Unlimited: Generally, to keep the torunaments from getting stale, I usually like to mix up formats. I print a calendar every month, so my players know exactly what format is going to be played on any given week. Generally, I have two modified tournaments, 1 Booster Draft, and 1 unlimited tournament in a typical month. That is at Comic Oasis 1. Comic Oasis 2 has tournaments every Saturday that usually are just unlimited.
This seems to provide a nice balance, and keep interest in Pokemon strong in the Las Vegas, NV area, with my attendance usually averaging mid-teens at both stores.

People play both formats, but the preferred format is Modified
3. When/If you hold Tournaments they are typically Modified/Unlimited.
Tournaments are tyically Modified. The players in this area grew tired of Unlimited rather quickly. In the past, we have done a couple of booster drafts, when someone could provide the product. Unfortunately, we cannot charge for tournaments (Corporate Policy) and either roll the admission price over into prizes or into a card fund for paying for drafts/sealed. 2. People typically play Modified or Unlimited?
I worked very hard to get players to make the switch from Unlimited to Modified. I offered double stamps for players who played me in MF (win or lose). Now most players play Modified all the time. The exception is the very young or the returning older players, but even they are converting. Most players like Modified much better now that they have tried it. Most of my better players carry 3-4 Modified decks and 1-2 Unlimited decks to every league session.
3. When/If you hold Tournaments they are typically Modified/Unlimited.
I run some of everything. Most of my players prefer Modified, but also like Sealed and Draft (because of the level playing field!). I offer Unlimited as well, for variety, and to keep the few that prefer it happy.

Typically Unlimited. People have Modified decks but usually don't play them. (I'm guilty of such -- only time I play a Mod. deck is if I'm really bored -- and it's usually Entei-Cargo I'm playing...)
All tournaments have been Unlimited here except for one, which was Modified.
-------------------- What, like the pro-archetype attitude is supposed to be restricted to THIS company, and THIS TCG? All card games run on archetypes. Magic is 90% archetypes. YGO is 90% archetypes. Pokemon was, for the most part, all archetypes before and during MF2. Pokemon will be archetype-based during MF3. Pokemon will be archetype based when it is under Nintendo.

1. League Locations: Mayhem Collectibles-a comic book hobby shop in Ames, Iowa.
Hastings- The local branch of the store chain-again, Ames, Iowa.
2. People typically play Unlimited for both stores. A few of the older players play Modified as well, as we hope for a local (at least in Iowa) event that we could actually attend. TMP is what sparked most peoples attention for Modifed. The Ames location is likely to always be UNlimited, as hte store owner wants everyone to be able to use the cards they have (so I guess I should say "Casual", since we don't worry about "_________'s Pikachu". At the Hasting's League, we have more leeway, and both I an a friend sometimes run it. We try to encourage more Modified play their, but most kids just don't have the cardpool. LC has helped greatly though, but the rotation out of the Gym set's has hurt.
3. Tournaments have always been Unlimited except for one or two Prop 15's back in the day. Most participants at Hasting's lack the necessary cardpool while Mayhem's owner doesn't want anyone to get left out. We are working to change that, though. 2) Decks Played: Mostly Unlimited. There were a few competitive players playing modified decks, but they have moved on to other games
3) Battlezone is going to be the first Sanctioned event run for Pokemon at our league. My guess is that it will be played in Unlimited Format for now. Maybe with a lot of shoving and yelling the league MIGHT try an occasional Modified tournament.
