One random question I figured I'd ask...outside of 1ed. Base Charizard, what do you think is the most expensive/prized by collectors/highest cash value card out there? Out of all the years that Wizards has had the game, what card takes this title?

What, like the pro-archetype attitude is supposed to be restricted to THIS company, and THIS TCG?
All card games run on archetypes. Magic is 90% archetypes. YGO is 90% archetypes. Pokemon was, for the most part, all archetypes before and during MF2. Pokemon will be archetype-based during MF3. Pokemon will be archetype based when it is under Nintendo.

Viva la unoriginality!

I know but it does not exist.
BUT
*red-cheek* E3 Pikachu & Prerelase Clefable.

Somehow my bro was thrilled when he got a Poketour Pikachu but I know the above are rare and 'valuable'

English cards: VS English decks used (and not played) from the Tropical Mega Battle in Hawaii. I believe there are only several decks given to players at this event over the past couple of years. [Big Grin] We have two, so do a few of Belgium players.

Japanese card: Trophy Kangaskan (saw it list once on eBay at $5,000).

Since I saw IPGeek's list, I think those "square-cut foil" rare cards are really nice. [Wink]

I value them as price-less since them came from a person I value a lot in the community as well as his bro.

The rarest Amnerican card by WOTC probably would be the 1st edition Base Charizard, and following that, the Prerelease Raichu that there seems to be but 5 or so of in the whole world... >.<

Japanese card: Illustrator Pikachu. I've heard 1-of-a-kind, and the last time i saw it, it was listed at $8000 in Beckett, but that was last January or so. [Wink]

The Red-cheeked E3 Pikachu consistantly gets $100 or so on eBay.

There are some other cards that I think should be more valuable than that, but if you look at what actually gets the highest prices, I'd say that is it.

I think it is the Promo Pikachu 1st Edition error card that came out in the jungle packs.

Don't want to speak for others but for me it has to be the first Charizard I pulled out of a base set booster way back when....

Before I knew about leagues and tourneys and professorship and stuff

Before I started working for the game as well as playing it.. That's my most valuable card ..

Oh and the FK signed Spinarak from GenCon UK 2002..

where freddy got gubbed in the draft every time we played as I was playing grass and he was weak to me with his water deck...

the quote is ...

Spinarak 50hp

quote:
I deserve to be squashed

signed FK loser with attitude

Now that is priceless [Wink]

For me, my most valuable cards are the signed ones. Not only the 1st Edition cards signed by Mr. Arita at Worlds, but the normal common and uncommon cards signed by my friends in the Pokémon community.

Looking through all the signature of people I met IRL at West Coast STS, East Coast STS, Worlds, Stadium Challenge Amsterdam or just got in the mail: those are memories for life.

I will keep them all my life for a reminder of how fantastic the Pokémon community was, and how many great people I was so lucky to meet at these events or at boards. Yes, this sounds very clichée-ish, but I really think this.

Here is the list as I see it: Prerelease Raichu, Trainer deck A, Pokemon "Sample" cards, Pikachu E3 red cheeks, Pikachu Promo 1 "1st edition", Base set Ninetails with missing HP for the second attack, Team Rocket Dark Dragonite 5/82 non-holo. But... who is willing to pay for these cards and how much is the question. I doubt that today someone would pay more than $70 for any of these cards. I know I didn't have to when Pokemon was at prime.

I didn't see anyone mention the Green Wing Charizard. I'm not positive but I don't think that one was ever a 1st ed. Darned few of 'em though...

Amen, UKPP, Amen!

What are the most valuable cards to me? The Scoop Up I won the SBZ in May with. The foil (reverse holo as some people call them) Weedle and Gengar from Legendary that MTM and DMTM signed for me at Origins 2002, and the jumbos that were signed by MANY at Origins and GenCon this year.

It's the cards that are reminders of the good times with this game that are most valuable. I can't put a price on those. It's more than money.

Winner - Skyridge SBZ Dayton 15+
Winner (with Nathan "Silent Bob" Spenny) - Origins Team Limited
Evolution - Second in the World in Team Limited
Third - WotC's final Pokemon event (Sunday Modified at GenCon)

Adventure, excitement... a Jedi craves not these things.

Very well said. I feel exactly the same way: some cards have individual value.

I think of all the cards I dont have.... like Prerelease Fable, 1st ed Promo Pika, and like 4 others that are semi easy to obtain, I think the one I want the most is Error Promo Star Dark Persian. I mean a Pokemon with no HP (cant be knocked out), now that is priceless

Please note I know thagt it would be errata'd to have 60 HP(80 with Hideout in play) it is just the fact there is no HP. It is Infinite [Devilish]

I always said it should be played such that even one Damage counter would KO it ("more damage counters than it has hit points")

Pikachu's Illustrator was sold for 1 million dollars, it was signed by the Illustrator himself. The $8000 cardS are Pikachu Trophy Gold, Pikachu Trophy Silver, and Pikachu Trophy Bronze.

A well respected eBay and Yahoo! seller (I believe it was Andyspokemon) had a Pikachu Illustrator card up for auction several times last year and received no bids with a $10,000 starting price. I did read of one that sold 2 or 3 years ago in Japan for the equivalent of $22,000.00.
