*steps out into the middle of the fray*

Okay, guys...please. Yes, I understand your feelings on this matter...really, I do...but this has to stop.

The topic is the prizes/events for Origins and GenCon. The topic is not the history of OP support in the UK/Europe and the disparities between support in the US vs. the rest of the world.

It was my understanding from MTM's posts to the board, the chats, and the professor list that 'fan appreciation' support was indeed going to be sent for the European/UK events. Could we hold off on the 'they got more than we did' until that information is actually posted, please?

Please believe me when I say I understand the frustration you all must feel when you see this; I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't know too many, if ANY US TOs/professors...myself included...who could have persevered for as long as you have in the face of the obstacles you've had to deal with. You all have my respect for that, and that of the player community...but please. Start a new thread if you must, but please don't turn this one into another debate on the US player community vs. the rest of the world. Now, more than ever, with our game in this uncertain state, we need to stick together as ONE COMMUNITY.

Thank you all for understanding.

I have to say, as a US-based player and Professor (but with a European-born better half, and having myself spent 15 of my 20-year Army career in Germany), I am quite sympathetic to the apparent plight of the non-US Professors and Master Professors regarding the inequitable "sharing of the spoils". I, too, hope that the MTs are able to send some of those "promised" goodies overseas!!

Guys guys guys... I'm european too, but it's not the place to restart with this neverending history...
We all do know what we have (or NOT HAVE) in Europe... Remember that there is a Stadium Challenge in Antwerp, you had a good Gen Con event, in Italy we'll have National Championship next week... and Fan Appreciation tournaments will be hold in a few weeks (or a month).
MTM activated itself for sending us as much goodies as possible, and - if it's going to have a Fan tournament like the US one - we'll have really A LOT of things to win [Smile]
So, we'll see what'll happens with Nintendo... WoTC had some troubles, you know, but be happy for this happy ending for this great and difficult road.

Ah, another thing............. Please MTs give us as a prize a flight to USA!!!! [Crowd]

Man, MTM this is amazing, my reaction when I saw this was similar to Wolverine's when he first saw what deathstrike could do(for those of you who saw x2), not going to quote him on these boards... This is incredible, I am going to have so much fun at this place. Looks like we finally get to see literally how much of these promos were hanging around the office.

Had Wizards NOT lost the license to Pokemon, the prizes would have been much different.

As a result though, the prizes for Gencon/Origins is wildly different than it was for Europe.

I don't blame the Europeans for being disappointed.

But this complaint about the RH Prof Elms is a little odd.

How about this... Wizards gives out NO RH Prof Elms at Gencon.

Would that change anything?

Yes, an extremely well-prized way to end one of the greatest card games. I think that the prizes will be second as in going there, since they will be the last big pokemon tournies held by Wizards. I think just that fact alone is enough to go. It might be the last time that a lot of us see each other for the last time- as I know after Gen Con I'm out.
I don't think we should bicker about who gets the best prizes, as that only shows that we are just greedy.
All I say is that we thank Wizards for all the great times we've had, apologize for some of the things we have done, and, most importantly, just have some fun.

Anyone agree?

WOW !!! When I see that list, I'm just speechless !

Ukpokemonpro and Freddy, I understand what you mean and you know what I think about it.
But Mom is right, we still don't know anything about Fan Appreciation tournaments in Europe.

With only 2 qualifiers (1 in London last August and 1 in Antwerp) and 4 qualified from Europe (except Italy), and with plane tickets at more than 1000 USD from Europe to Indianapolis, that list is informative but doesn't concern the European players.

I hope we'll have the opportunity to win the same amount of boosters and foils on this side of the Atlantic, and that we'll have more than a single Fan Appreciation tournament in London (right in the middle of the exam period for most of the European kids [Dubious] ).

But I'll wait for the official info about tournaments and prizes before to eventually start a new topic [Wink]

You're right when you say that we may ask as much as our US friends will have, and that there is no reason to make differences between the communities, but we still don't know what MTM was talking about when he said that there will be Fan Appreciation tournaments and lot of goodies for Europe too.

Ben, you've forgotten something ... the Expedition saga [Razz]

To my mind yes it would it keeps the card worth something and shows that WotC were not just spouting rubbish when they said the elm would be given as a reward to Professors and Master Professors for their work. That is not what we are seeing here.

If WotC wanted to reward the professors for work done look to the DCI reports, who has judged and TO's who has been helping at premier events .. hand the elms out to those people .. Often these are the professor who are too busy working to play.

So yes don't hand them out at Origins ... send them out to those that really deserve them.

As to Europe and the UK well GenCon Europe had the great distinction of not being able to give the winner and second place their professor jackets because they were forgotten!

There were holofoil energies but we do not know if they were from last years league kits that we never got or from MTM for our Fan Appreciation event...

I am pleased that you are getting so much I really am and I hope you get all you deserve... all I ask is that the rest of the world gets a chance to share too.

HOW about starting a NEW thread, TECHNICALLY, this POST has GONE far beyond the original intention.

If we READ deeper then WE would have noticed any slight (but I am sure NONE was intended), BUT I am even guilty of being USAcentric...and I admit, I AM happy and not (I too am disppointed that again, THIS promo card is NOT exclusive)

I would ask you to have PATIENCE for MTM (NO one No one really understand EVERYTHING he MUST do & does... with summer coming around I am sure it is EVEN MORE)

BUT, you EUROPEAN players have been asked before.

START a new thread and discuss about OUTSIDE USA support (uh you have emailed MTM??) & here PRIZE support for GenCon/Origins & perhaps SD's ComicCon.

*sigh*
Never ending... but isn't THAT part of the fun or roller coaster of life & pokemon...

That makes ...

Origin : more than 19000 foil cards, more than 10900 boosters, 16 Prof Jackets, 64 Prof shirts, 'Lots of other stuff' for 8 players

GenCon : more than 20500 foil cards, more than 20000 boosters, 'Lots of other stuff' for 16 players.

This does not include the 8 players Sealed and Draft tournaments prizes (16 boosters and 8 foil per tournament)

I had the chance to talk with a mother visiting Orlando, Florida last weekend at Master Professor Renee's Battlezone at the Coliseum of Comics. She was from Europe (I forgot where exactly). Anyways she started a Pokemon League locally in her country for her kids and recieves a fairly large attendance of other younger ones. She funds the League herself due to the fact WotC Europe lacks the skills to distrbute things (stuff like product and league kits [Roll Eyes] ). My point being, she will be taking her two sons to the Belgium Stadium Challange to play. When she asked about helping out the tournament, she was denied. Why is that folks?

Because she is not a Professor, as well as many other people who have helped this game out too. Guess what? I update a popular website with a long running magazine publication. Do I have an Elm? No. Is the founder of that popular website a Professor? No. Have we both influenced the game? Heck yes.

But see, I dont ask for anything for my services. I dont get payed to update that site, nor does the founder. I dont recieve compensation for running tournaments. I have even spent money out of my own pocket for others, allowing people to borrow my cards, fixing individuals decks with my own cards, and funding prize support. Sure I have recieved some stuff for helping out, just like others have like a really nifty Professor Card. However I am not donating my money, time, or experience to recieve.

I am in it for the game and the community, that is where everyone's focus should be right now during this tough transition period. We should not be whining about a card being devalued. This corporation does not have to thank its loyal fans. Hasbro's sales reports for the Pokemon brand has shown that already.

The only thing that could be hurt when Elm is released is your ego or your pocketbook if you already have a Delegate Professor Elm . None of which is important enough to even compare to the true reason Elm is being released: its for the community, not just one small portion of individuals, it is for everyone. Without everyone, the Professors would have nothing to work with. Everyone > Professors

I've never really had an appreciation for the "I feel better because someone else didn't get something" way of looking at a problem.

I appreciate the fact that Europe has been short changed. But I fail to see how preventing someone else from getting something in ANY way improves your situation.

Regardless, I hope Nintendo does a better job of getting Europe (and other non-US areas) the kind of organized play and prize support you deserve.

Dear USA

the more you go on about how the rest of the world is just whining because they have less than you. The more angry at,and distrustfull of, the USA the rest of the world becomes.

To encourage jelousy, envy, and anger, is not a good strategy for a peacefull global existance.

Neither is it a good idea to rub the rest of the worlds nose in the fact that you have a land of plenty but that the rest of the world is not invited to the party.

IMHO, to give out something as a special reward and then devalue it later is insulting and only engenders mistrust. [Frown] *shakes head*

It is possible to go on and on about this indeed we can get into Politcs: Kyoto, the recent oil wars..., but europe is not blameless either.

I very much doubt if MTM intended any offense to the rest of the world by posting such a fabulous pile of riches for the Wotc blow out. However it is not always possible to forsee the consequences of our actions. Unfortunately MTM's prize list has just underlined the belief in the global community that all outside of the USA are being short changed. The reasons are historical rather than hysterical.

Anyhow.

Lets drop the carping/griping and get on with spreading the pokémon word of friendship coperation and partnership with rewards for all who are prepared to put in the effort to further the cause of this great community.

MTM is in contact with the European offices and will send Prize support to them.

Ultimately it is up to those offices to decide what kind of fan Appreciation or other tournaments they will be doing and how the prizes will be distributed.

FYI he cannot list what that will be because it is not up to him how they will be distributed.

You have not been forgotten by us here in the USA.

Now back to the origial topic please.

Thanks for that confirmation DMTM.

I do agree with you, this topic is not about Europe, and certainly not about eventual differences of treatment between the US and European communities.

I've started a new topic to talk about the Fan Appreciation Tournaments in Europe.

I propose to everyone to post there if the posts are written about countries outside US.
Thanks [Smile]
