Just to add more fuel to the fire...

....OR....

it has decided that it is more profitable that it thought it would be and wants to keep all of the profits for itself rather than only get a small franchise fee.

It is not obvious that Nintendo would reap greater profits from the TCG by producing it themselves. Besides from having to create a new division to handle the TCG production, OP, and what not, Nintendo needs to pay WotC. No one seemed to have remembered the intellectual property that belongs to WotC - the cardback design is probably one, but the big one would be a little detail called "Patent # 5,662,332".

I suspect that Nintendo is banking on being able to sell more its other products by having direct control of the TCG, for instance, the GBA and the E-reader.

But we mere mortals will never really know.

Does anyone remember the great Akira Kurosawa movie Rashomon? Which showed an event through the POV of the three people involved...which turned out to be three radically differing stories, according to who was telling it?

Just some food for thought...
