Although, I forgot that they're reprinting some old cards as promos.

Like base set Electabuzz, thats the only reprint so far (Rocket's Sneasel is the other one). you should here about them from people.

Oh and you dont need the promos to play them [Smile]

That is correct. From the floor rules:

quote:
Cards stamped with Prerelease and Wizards of the Coast® logos do not count as promo cards but rather as cards from their original sets. Check the expansion symbols (if any) to determine whether the card is legal in Modified.

No, you don't have to have one. The old one has been Modified legal since 12/1/2002.

Updated Guide to Cards that are Legal in the Modified Format.

This guide is designed to be printed up and supplied to the
general public to answer any questions they may have
about the Modified Format. MMF, Neon, and Neo Forward
are all nicknames of the current version of this format.
Modified changes on a periodic basis with a few of the
Oldest sets being rotated out. The next rotation will
eliminate some of the Neo sets. This rotation will not occur
before August 31, 2003.
The Modified Format is a Constructed Format. This means
that you build a 60 card deck out of your own cards.

--------------------------------------------
What Cards are NOT Legal in the Modified Format:

The following sets are no longer legal in the Modified
Format, however if a card within these sets is reprinted
in a set that is Legal then you may use the older card
from these illegal sets in your Modified decks.
That is why all the legal trainers have been listed
below, and that is why the Legendary Collection has
listed after each card which set the card was reprinted
from.

B=Base (no symbol)
B2=Base Set Two (symbol is a 2)
J=Jungle (symbol is a five petal flower)
F=Fossil (symbol is a skeleton foot)
GH=Gym Heroes (symbol is a white stadium.)
GC=Gym Challenge (symbol is black stadium.)
R=Rocket (symbol is a R)

-----------------------------------------------
What Cards are Legal in the Modified Format.

The following sets are legal in the Modified
Format, however if a card within these sets is a reprint
of a set that is illegal then you may use the older card
from the illegal sets in your Modified decks.
That is why the all the legal trainers have been listed
below, and that is why the Legendary Collection has
listed after each card which set the card was reprinted
from.

All the Legedary Collection cards are legal.
LC=Legendary Collection (symbol is a medal)

Promo symbol is the word promo in a black star.
Most Wizards of the Coast Promos are legal.
Except cards numbered 1 thru 20
Except Ancient Mew
Except Promo # 24 "_____'s Pikachu"

Any of Promos 1 thru 20 that are reprinted
in a new set (or newer promo) will become legal
again, such as Promo # 12 Mewtwo which was
reprinted in LC.

Any cards that are in an illegal set, but are
reprinted as a legal Promo are useable.
(Pokemon Center - Base Set is a good example
because it is also Promo # 40.)

All Neo Genesis cards are legal--
Except Sneasel card # 25 and Slowking card # 14
Neo Genesis= Neo
It's symbol is a double star.

All Neo Discovery cards are legal.
Neo Discovery= Neo 2
It's symbol is a Triangle Temple.

All Neo Revelation cards are legal.
Neo Revelation= Neo 3
It's symbol is a Crown.

All Neo Destiny cards are legal.
Neo Destiny= Neo 4
It's symbol is a blue slanted star.

All the Southern Islands cards are legal.
Southern Islands= SI
It's symbol is a palm tree.

All Expedition Base cards are legal.
Epedition Base= E
It's symbol is a black pokeball.
(Bottom right hand corner.)

All Aquapolis cards are legal.
Aquapolis= Aqua

Future sets of Pokemon will be legal as soon as
they are available to the public.
(Prelease cards are not legal.)

All the "Best" Promo cards are legal as soon as they are
released somewhere in the world.
(Base Electabuzz is now legal because it was reprinted
as "Best" Promo # 1.)
It's symbol is the word "Best".

Japanese cards are legal to play if the card is in a sleeve
that is does not show any of the back of the card.
The card is then considered the same card as its American
equivalent. You no longer need an extra English card
to show what the Card actually reads.
The Complete Card reference tells what each card text is.

.

Modified Format ALL ENERGYS

Energies except Double Colorless Energy (which
came in the Base Set and Base Set 2) are legal
regardless of what symbol is typed on the card.
The Darkness Expedition and Metal Expedition cards are
misprinted. Please play them like the Neo Darkness and
Neo Metal Energies.

=============================================
=============================================

Other Formats for Pokemon include:

The Unlimited Format:
The Unlimited Format is a Constructed Format. This means
that you build a 60 card deck out of your own cards.
Build your 60 card deck out of any card that has been
released by Wizards of the Coast EXCEPT Ancient Mew
and Promo # 24 "_____'s Pikachu"
Japanese cards are legal to play if the card is in a sleeve
that is does not show any of the back of the card.
The card is then considered the same card as its American
equivalent. You no longer need an extra English card
to show what the Card actually reads.
The Complete Card reference tells what each card text is.
There are currently no plans to change the Unlimited Format.
Do not ask for cards to be Banned from Unlimited.
It is not going to happen unless a card is totally not
compatible with a Tournament Evironment. Ancient Mew is
slightly bigger than all the rest of the Cards and it is
not written in any know language. "____'s Pikachu"
Promo # 24 (also known as "Happy Birthday Pikachu") is
very powerfull if today is the Players Birthday. This leads
to complications such as requiring Birth Ceritificates
and whether or not a Tournament Organizer deliberately
planned to have a Tournament on that day....

.

Booster Draft:
Cards are drafted from sealed packs and you may only add
Basic Energy Cards to make a 40 card Deck.
This is know as a Limited Format, because your deck is limited
to Basic Energy and whatever cards you receive at the
Tornament.
.

Rouchester Draft:
Booster Packs are opened and spread face up across the
table. Cards are drafted in a rather complex pattern.
This is know as a Limited Format, because your 40 card deck is
limited to Basic Energy and whatever cards you receive at
the Tornament.

.

Sealed Play:
You are given sealed products to open. You may only add
Basic Energy cards to make a 40 card Deck.
This is another Limited Format.

.

Team Constructed:
Use the Modified format as outlined above.

.

Team Limited:
You are given sealed products to open. You may only add
Basic Energy Cards to make a 40 card Deck.
This is another Limited Format

.........................................

As Pokemon Grows new Formats may be added. Team Constucted,
Team Limited and Rochester Draft are all new additions.
As Modified and Unlimited draw further and further apart
there may become another Constucted Format with another
method of selection. Unlimited only eliminates cards that
are not tournament usable. Modified eliminates the oldest sets.
Perhaps a Format that eliminates cards that are too complex
or powerful may be added someday?
