Well, it has befallen upon my little pokemon group that the Mission Valley WOTC store will not be running the Nintendo League. This of course is very bad news for us.. since the store was in an ideal place, had the league at ideal dates and times and always ran the special tournys like the SBZs... This came as a great shock to us that the store in which we grew up playing pokemon will not allow us to return. Cutting to the chase.. I spoke with the manager of the store to see if I could persuade him to run the new league... but it seems that it is out of his control to allow the league or not. He told us that he had recieved word that WOTC stores should not run these events and not to sell the cards.... I just wanted to ask if this was the case with every other WOTC store... This would be very unfortunate... very well. hope to get some positive feedback!!
P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum!!! Wasnt my intention.. but im very distraught.. My friends and I are gonna have a very large problem finding a new place big enough to play..

[Edit: edited your title to make it more descriptive of your subject...]

After just beginning our league 2 weeks ago and managing to bring in 12 people, to the surprise of the staff, i as well got the news that WOTC will not be running Nintendo's pokemon league. Apparently on WOTC's list, to all it's stores, of leagues available for choice to run, Pokemon was not on it (but they managed to give Risk a league [Dropjaw] ). However, if we continue to show a continual amount of players, i'll bet more than 6, i was told that we could continue to run it free play, without Nintendo support, but independently by organizing our own prizes and such. Seems like a good idea, you just need to show that it will be profitable.
Another thing that could be an option, depending on if the store you play at will agree, is ordering Nintendo's league kit yourself and having it shipped to you somehow. Then you run the league at your store. I'm not sure if it'll work but you could try.

This isn't confirmed or anything -- just a rumor -- but one of my friends whom returned from Origins recently told me that Wendy's was going to be one of the sponsors for the Nintendo Pokemon League. Maybe Leagues will end up being held there, like they did in Burger King for trading toys for that one huge Pokemon promotion they did?

--------------------
What, like the pro-archetype attitude is supposed to be restricted to THIS company, and THIS TCG?
All card games run on archetypes. Magic is 90% archetypes. YGO is 90% archetypes. Pokemon was, for the most part, all archetypes before and during MF2. Pokemon will be archetype-based during MF3. Pokemon will be archetype based when it is under Nintendo.

Viva la unoriginality!

Why would WotC stores hold leagues for something that will compete with there own cards? When Neo Pets comes out Pokemon and Neo Pets will be competing for the same age group. Holding leagues for your competitor wouldn't make sence. Thats kinda like Sony advertising for Nintendo or Microsoft.

Why should WotC run Nintendo's League when it has its own games and leagues?

Wouldn't sound very bright to me.

Hmmm...

well in the Hasbro company report the intention to get rid of all Wotc stores is made very plain.

This poses an interesting dilemma for the storekeepers if pokémon is more profitable than other (hasbro) licensed products.

So the question really is will the wotc stores sell the nintendo product?

no, it's not a rumor. The staff themselves told me from the information they received from WOTC.

They run Yugioh, why not pokemon? and Konami doesn't even like WOTC, or so i heard.

huh? would they close down the store completely or remake them as their own stores (not as Gamekeepers or Wizards)?

Wotc stores sell Yugioh & run its leagues. Why not Pokemon-E?
I don't know what my Wotc league will do if they can't get more kits later.
I can see the majority of my league (10 & unders) break up and drop pokemon w/out a place to play. [Frown]
If this is true & there is no way around it my league will be DOOMED as we know it. [Dropjaw] [Frown]

u could offer to set it up yourself. arrange to get league kits and other things some how. Or just set up your own sort of league at the store, like an open play thing.

The only problem with this is that you need to be a retail store in order to purchase League materials. I doubt a store will let you buy the stuff and take it to some other place.

I asked the Westminster Mall WOTC manager about Nintendo leagues and he said he has not heard anything official yet. However, he did tell me that the decision on whether to run *any* kind of leagues (not just Pokemon) comes from Retail corporate headquarters; the individual stores are not allowed to run anything that isn't on the approved corporate list.

So now we have to find someone in WOTC Retail corporate in order to petition and ask them to consider running Nintendo Pokemon League as a chain.

Are you with me people? ::crowd cheers::

You know its really funny, I was just talking to Rachel the manager of a couple WOTC stores located at my league at Sea Tac Mall and South Center Mall last Saturday. I asked the same question as the subject of this forum...... I asked her if WOTC would hold Nintendo Pokemon leauges...... It may look like I may need to find another space/store for league.......

She did mention that we may be able to continue to have free play and suppor the league our selves....

We have been spoiled for the longest time at our league. We had a dedicated Gym leader who got paid the entire leauge time to pay attention to the league. He is a wonderful GYm leader...

Well have to see how this affects local leagues......

Perhaps this is why WOTC had Professors try and get other stores to host battlezone and maybe have hopes to continue supporting league afterward................. [Frown] [Frown]

why not? They don't have to know what you're doing with it. You'd just say you're a hardcore pokemon fan [Big Grin] . Still, if it does bother them, you could ask them to host the league and bring in more money that way.
My store doesn't care if you play there or not, just as long as it brings in money [Big Grin] .

One more thing, aparently Nintendo's Pokemon cards are not on the ordering list for the WOTC place i play at. Anyone else finding this?

I don't get it, the Wotc stores run YU-GI-OH, but they don't run Pokemon, I guess Pokemon just doesn't seem to very profitable as it once had been.

[teach] This is what I know, which could or couldn't shine some light on this. I know that before the WOTC League that I played at closed, the corporite office wanted weekly reports of how many showed up for the league, how much they made at the league, and how much product did they move durning the time the league was running. They could of been checking to see if they were making any money holding the leagues, and weight that against the price the Nintendo was going to charge them for the kits and such. Just my $0.02 [Razz]

Pokemon .... WotC still upset at not getting license renewal for a song... Yep can't see why they won't run pokemon leagues at all [Roll Eyes]

Surely NOT!!! I can't believe anyone would think that Hasbro had any intention of slighting TPC/Nintendo in any way. Even if they did, they'd never issue a corporate directive not to run Pokémon just because it would compete directly with Neo Pets. How ridiculous!

So WOTC makes money off yugioh anyway, interesting. I didn't know they had game mechanics copywritted, i didn't think they could. I thought they pay WOTC for the use of titling their game a TCG.

They wouldn't do that. They'd issue a coorporate directive of leagues they can support without pokemon on it [Big Grin] . They're going to have a Risk league and not a Pokemon league [Eek!]

There could be a reasonable explanation for this. Nintendo's leagues haven't exactly started yet, and there is almost no way to tell how these leagues are going to be run, save for some tidbits on their site.

WOTC might put it on the corporate list when the leagues start

Feh...I dont know about all you but my local WOTC store's selling EX: Ruby & Sapphire. As for league, Battlezone itself there was a lost cause (not enough space/smart staff)

But as for selling the product itself, we got it and I believe on PUI's website it even says WOTC stores will carry them.

the WOTC place i visit orders their products out of a warehouse (of WOTC i believe it was). They told me that it was WOTC's order that they are not allowed to order from anyone else for supplies. Either your store is different or went against some order.
I'd love for the place i go to to receive R&S so they can see the money a league might bring in. People are requesting them. Also so i wouldn't have to walk to the other end of the shopping center to another store for them [Big Grin] .
