Guys, with a heavy heart I must tell you this. There will be Skyridge coming out soon. After that there will be Jamboree. Then that is the end. No more Pokemon from WoTC. It was just announced that the license was not renewed. WoTC will continue to support it's players, but there will be no more sets after Jamboree. Please keep all discussion here, and please don't let this degrade. Pokemon is not dead, and neither are these boards.

Thanks for deleting my topic about it. =/

Like I said...

Please do not hold WotC to this decision. It was TPC who decided, not WotC.

I hope and pray for those involved with this product to move onto another WotC game, with the economy at tough times. Master Trainer Mike, Dark Master Trainer Mike, Master Trainer Pat, Kirien Chase, and many more people have made a great WotC product. Thank you for the memories.

So where do we go from here? Anyone has ties or contacts with TPC or Pokemon USA? I want to continue this game.

I agree. We can not take this out on Wizards. They have provided us with this great game in the first place. I hope the pokemon company will realize they are making a huge mistake. I wish everyone at Wizards good luck. Do NOT give up. This is not the end. 3 more sets at least.

Thanks for 5 great years.

The easiest thing to do here would be to point fingers and say this person screwed up or this person caused problems.

I don't do easy.

The truth is we have a lot to work with here. Presumably someone else will pick up the liscense. TPC wouldn't have rejected the offer if they thought they couldn't do better elsewhere. Remember that Pokemon is not so much defined by a collection of intellectual properties but by the people who play it. Do not ignore the fact that what makes Pokemon great has not changed, and I doubt it ever will.

Whoever should control the Pokemon TCG's future will need a great deal of help. I hope they will not forget the lessons learned and will preserve as much of what we have worked for as possible. We have all put much labor into this game and it would be shameful if it were lost. I look forward to working with whatever group of people works on the game.

Pokemon is not dead. It is as alive as ever. What is required now is some faith that things will work out. Remember:

"It's a whole new world we live in
It's a whole new way to see
It's a whole new place
with a brand new attitude
but you still gotta catch 'em all
be the best that you can be!"

I agree with you all, no one is to blame. Many many thanks to all the fine people at WoTC. This "game" brought my son and I closer, introduced us to lots of you great people, and has brought countless hours of enjoyment!

Thanks WoTC!

But..... before we do a memorial service..... lets all do a little writting! Whaddaya say. Why don't we all get together with our kids, friends, fellow trainers, league members etc and have everyone write letters to WoTC to let them know how we feel about them and this game. This is probably won't change anything that is in the works, but can you imagine if we all decide to mail our letters on say April 11th so we all have the same postmark. Imagine if WoTC gots hundereds of letters from dedicated players and Professors.... we don't need to make a change, but lets show our support for what they have done, and that we will continue to support Pokemon.

Okay.... if you all think this is too much, remember I got up at 330am and havent had coffee since 1130am.

Interesting Title Josh. Almost didn't open this topic except that it was posted by you, the title caught my eye (thinking that you were leaving the game since we haven't seen you for awhile.

Well, it is sad news. I, for one, want to thank all of the WotC employees, especially the Mikes (DMTM and MTM), Kerien Chase, and many others I got to know over the years. I also understand this is a business decision, the bottom line being $$$$. I just hope that TPC, who have been great hostees to us at this past years TMB, have exciting plans for all its players "World" wide. I guess only time will tell. We all wait patiently.

Josh, since your title doesn't really display this important news release, is it possible for you or DBS to change it so other members will not pass over this important announcement. Thanks Dave

First, I want to thank the staff at WOTC for all of the support that you have given to this game.

Second, I wish to say that I do not believe that the game is going to die. As long as people love the game, it won't die. There may not be any new sets for awhile (after Skyridge, LC2 and Jamboree), but as long as there are players, we will figure out a way to compete.

Well, i know i have never really been a big in the posting part on WizPog, i have been more of a lurker (but if you visit zeo you may know how involved i am over there). I had a feeling that this was a strong possibility to what was going to happen, but just reading it in print shocked me... with the only words to discribe it would be the sound of the "shocked" underscore from the show 24.

Last year, i passed up the chance to attened Worlds because of family issues, but had a slight regret in missing it... know that these could possibly the be last large wizards level tournaments i am already looking into travel arrangements and hope to see you there... and also at this time i would like to thank the MT's, everyone else at Wizards, and those who have all taken part in the production in the trading card game for the last five years, i loved playing it since i learned the rules with base set and will contiune to play it as long as i can.

I am floored. First my wife files for divorce at Thanksgiving and now this. This sucks. This game has given my son Spencer and I many many happy moments and we have made tons of friends. 4 Years ago I would never have thought I would be involved at the level I am now as far as OP. I certainly hope the new licensee IS paying attention to those of us who have given our sweat and blood to this game and tries to incorporate the existing TOs and premier stores into whatever OP will continue (if it DOES continue).
Like the others I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to DMTM, MTM, MTP, Kerien and the others from WotC I have met and considered friends. Thank you for all your efforts to keep the game alive and promote it from within a corporate structure that cares more about the bottom line than they do about GAMING. THAT was WotC's forte before the Hasbro takeover...Gaming.
'Tis a sad day indeed. Somehow the enthusiasm for Skyridge just faded. Oh well...Life goes on....that's what I keep telling myself lately like a mantra...

This is just not happening...

Why?? Does this mean no more card sets after the next 3 that are coming soon?? Is there any plan that the PKMN company are doing, like finding another company to make their cards or something?? Are they going to do the cards themselves now??

Well, if anyone's interested, I made a petition.

I don't really expect it to change anything (especially considering it's Petition Online), but I figure that a petition was bound to be made anyway (it's a decent method of voicing opinions), so I might as well make it myself, to ensure that the request is professional and not inflammatory.

As such, I also ask that, should you sign it and add a comment, please also be professional and not inflammatory. If you share this with others, also please ask them to not fill their comments with flames.

I actually got an email from one of our league members and went out to Wizpog. Needless to say I am really shocked and dismayed to hear this. Thanks MTM, DMTM, and all the WOTC staff for making this such a wonderful game and all your support. My youngest son and I have really become closer through this game and we have attended a lot of great events that WOTC put on. I have a really hard time believing another company can take this game to the level that WOTC has (especially with the tournament support). I guess time will tell but as I have said before I enjoyed this game and really have no interest in picking up another game. It will be interesting to see if TPC has another company in mind and if so how organized and established it is to run this. This is really a sad day and no words can begin to express how much in shock I am with this turn of events. [Frown]

I can't believe it. The world has changed in moments, it seems clear that this year will be radical and very radical. After Skyridge, LegendaryII, and Jamboree we must focus attention to the Pokemon Company and tell them we are here, ready to play. Now there is more reason to not give up, but just get ready for change. Several questions however rest in my mind.

What about the DCI?
What about the Professor Program?
What about maple bars!? [Frown]

These questions will not be answered soon but I will do everything in possible effort to keep the game alive, it is too important to be taken away.

While this is the end of the Pokémon TCG at WotC, it is definitely not the end of the Pokemon TCG altogether. This decision allows another company to apply to license the game worldwide and take the Pokémon TCG to another level.

Btw, may I be remembered in these troubled times as the last to leave the ground-breaking chat. Kudos to Martin for alerting me about the problem.

Also, although it will not be a Wizards product, will we still keep the Pokegym here, will it be moved to another site, or will it just vanish?

I would still like to know who's distributing the game after WOTC is done. Hopefully, it won't be some idiot company like the people who do Yu-gi-oh.

I might have to quit now, with college coming and other stuff stacking up. Well, I still have a few decks, it's been fun, people.

*sigh* I am stunned. I never, never, EVER wanted to see this day come... [Frown] But the first of the Buddha's Four Noble Truths is that life is continual change, and that denying that fact is the cause of suffering. I am trying very hard to remember that tonight...but it's not easy.

I want this game to continue, and hope that those of us Professors, Master Professors, and TOs who keep OP going in our areas will continue to do so through the transition to whoever ends up with the game next. I'd hope I'm not alone in saying my first loyalty is to the GAME and has always been.

I've met so many wonderful people both online and IRL through this game; I'm just sorry that I haven't met more of my dear online friends IRL and hope we can meet someday. Thank you WotC, DMTM, MTM, Pat, Kierin, Elaine, and my fellow mods here at the 'Gym; you've all been a big part of my life the past few years.

I'd also like to say that IMO "blame" can't be laid at any one person's feet; my personal feelings are that this is a corporate decision, made for the benefit of stockholders rather than the CUSTOMERS who love this game. Sadly, that seems to be the mindset of large American corporations these days; though a property may be making a respectable profit, that's not enough for the big investors. It's the short-term "fad" profits, not long-term, respectable earnings that seem to be what drives the market now...and the loyal customers of a product are the ones who suffer... [Frown]
