I can't wait! Our own Team Europe chat, run just like the Thursday Wizards Chat! This will hopefully answer many questions, and strengthen the bond between Wizards and the players.

Does anybody have a problem if non TE members join in, because the normal chat time is not really healthy for me if I intend to have a full night's rest. So if I feel like it, I'll pop in next monday.

Hooray, the first European chat is over. Many questions that needed to be asked were asked adn we all had a general good time (I guess) My question is: Who has a Chat Log for the entire event and would they be willing to post it somewhere, or mail it around?

Well I have to think about this one with care.
Okay, well it was positive having the chat with WotC_Europe. We now have a dialogue, which is good for the game over here. e.g.
quote: team_europe_golduck says, " The Leagues in Norway still haven't gotten the BattleZone kits which arrived around January 15th in other European countries. " team_europe_golduck says, " We have tried to contact the Norwegian distributor, but they haven't gotten the kits from Denmark, which haven't got them from Wizards Europe. " team_europe_golduck says, " What's the current status of the kits? /ga " wizo_pokemom says, " please remember to put a "/ga" after your question is typed, so our guests know when to start typing their answers... :-) " team_europe_golduck says, " *who " wotc_kristin says, " Okay, I'll contact Norway because I've sent those kits already more than 2 or 3 weeks ago.... Same goes for Denmark! I'll go after it! "
But. I must say that having read through the log, I'm worried. Very worried.
Many straight-forward questions were being diverted to 'other' organisations - for instance, to MTM, to WotC_Italy, to WotC_UK, to the organisers of GenCon_Europe, to the distributors, to the World Cup winners... etc. It told me that there is a lack of communication & awareness as to what people are working on in Europe. For example, here's one:
quote: prof_theta says, " Do you have any information about BattleZone in Italy?/ga " wotc_glen says, " Italy is handled by the italian office, you should contact them as i dont know what they have planned " prof_theta says, " 'kay, thanks "
Why doesn't WotC_Europe know this anyway?
Here's another:
quote: pokedutch says, " Do you allready have any information about the pokemon tournaments at gencon and at what day they are?/ga " wotc_glen says, " GenCon is Us related, i dont have any say in the programming of these events. the best you can do is check the gencon webiste, not sure if thatone is still maintained however " pokedutch says, " k"
They are actually talking about GenCon_Europe, due to take place in two months' time, April. Bit worrying, eh?
Another.
quote: team_europe_golduck says, " I have a question about European professors " team_europe_golduck says, " I have two friends who both passed the test in late November/early December and then faxed their papers to Wizards Europe. " wotc_glen says, " and that question is ? " team_europe_golduck says, " Their names are Simon Methi (Norway) and Rolf Moll (Germany). But neither of them have appeared on the Professor list yet. Can you check what's happened? /ga " wotc_glen says, " how and where did they do the test? i believe you need to take the online test to become a professor " team_europe_golduck says, " they did take that test " team_europe_golduck says, " And got papers they needed to send to Wizards Europe " wizo_pokemom says, " back, thank you " team_europe_golduck says, " "Parential consent" or something like that " team_europe_golduck says, " And they faxed it to the Wizards Europe office " team_europe_golduck says, " (with "that", I mean the online test) " wizo_pokemom says, " golduck, anything to add...or can glen and kristin go ahead and answer? " wotc_glen says, " we just checked here real quick and found the one from rolf moll but not the one of simon, to be sure you can always fax it again on the new number INT-32-2/4673366 T.a.v Peter Coenen "
I mean Jeez, this is very worrying! you can imagine what went on: *shuffle through paperwork* 'Oh, here it is... uhm..' For four months these Professors have not been able to do very much TOing... how many 'other' Professors may have been forgotten about?
quote: michel1be says, " Could Wizards Europe run, or be involved in, a big event in France ? /ga " wotc_glen says, " If the event will take place in France it is up to the French office then. but normally we didnt plan on organizing bigger events. "
No help, no initiative, no ideas.
Seems as though the events are run by distributors in each country of Europe.. but why can't WotC_Europe run them themselves, with the aid of Professors??
quote: wotc_glen says, " gym and stadium challenges are bigger events. At the moment Wotc has no plans on organizing them themselves, but as stated above, people that are interested in organizing one can always talk to their local distributor to try and work something out "
And until WotC_Europe support OP more favourably the distributors will not commit themselves to what they see as a dying game. WotC_Europe need to be a bit more 'up-for-it' in my eyes.
quote: team_europe_golduck say, " How is the situation for Pokémon in Europe right now? Is there a good number of Leagues and sanctioned tournaments, and how are recent sets (Expedition and Aquapolis) selling? /ga " wotc_kristin says, " Don't know about the sales of the recent sets. "
*sigh*

While it was disappointing that they couldn't say anything about sales of recent sets, they did say something about the number of sanctioned tournaments.
They said it was fine, and that they look forward to BattleZone and how it will increase the number of sanctioned events. I didn't get to log this part, though. I had to copy-paste every single question from my browser into a Text Editor.

But the amazing news is the one about the League list. Remember how we've asked for an official European League list for years, but NEVER gotten any good answer? And now suddenly they tell us that the list is ready and will be sent to Mike Gills this week?
quote: wizo_pokemom says, " (golduck, you'll be next... " wizo_pokemom says, " golduck, go ahead " team_europe_golduck says, " Is there any chance that Wizards Europe could " team_europe_golduck says, " make a full list of European Leagues (BZs)? " team_europe_golduck says, " That'd really help " team_europe_golduck says, " Because there are no "official" list. Pokémon Belgium and Pokémon Team Europe have lists, but they're not full nor official " team_europe_golduck says, " slash ga " team_europe_golduck says, " *lists " pokedutch enters. wizo_pokemom says, " (queue: pokedutch, you'll be next, after golduck's question is answered.. " wotc_kristin says, " This list will be sent to Mike Gills this week and he'll put it on the website "
So now we're getting our League list. Finally. For some reason. [ February 11, 2003, 01:35 AM: Message edited by: Golduck ]

IMO the chat with Wizards Europe is useful in a way, but separate chats with each countries offices are much more informative, as they know more or less what's going on in each country, where Wizards Europe are not in charge of any "specific" country.
The chats with Lee are always useful.. Anyway, just my thoughts..

Here is my take on the TE Chat:
I thought it was a good "ice-breaker" to identify problems/issues/concerns addressed by the ENTIRE European Community (UK and Italy Included).
I was told that the WotC/Hasbro Offices DO NOT talk with one another. This seems to be indicitive of Corporations these days. Do I agree with it? No.
If it would do any good, I can start a dialogue with WotC/Hasbro Italy, however my Italian is non-existant. So, anyone who lives in Italy, and would like me to start a dialogue with the Italian office, please e-mail me at [email protected] or just simply reply to this thread.
I am VERY bothered by our friends "Down Under" who have no support at all for the local office in Austrailia. The Pokemon Scene in New Zealand, at last I knew, was JUMPING, probably more so than anywhere else in the world, however, that was some months ago now, and I am not certain as to how things are looking now.
The point here is, COMMUNICATION. That was the single most important aspect to come out of this chat. If the lines of communication are open, then WotC is more likely to give this "dying game" as some have put it, a MUCH greater look. We have planted the seed, now it is up to players/professors in Europe to water it, so it blossoms once again.
Pokemon is making a resurgence here now, slowly but surely it is coming back, and now we have positioned outselves as players of this game, to tell WotC that we just won't roll over and die.
This game holds a special kind of magic and enjoyment for me as a player, and I am sure the same holds true for many others regarless of where they live, or how old they are.
We have told WotC Europe, "Hey, we are HERE!" Now, we have to go the next step, and ask, "How can WE help?"
Many of you in Europe, have done an outstanding job with keeping this game alive, and I know I have said it about half a million times already, however, this is true, if it wasn't for YOUR efforts, this game, wouldn't be where it is today in Europe, and it is BECAUSE of you, that Pokemon is coming back in Europe.
That makes all the work that I do, and will continue to do for this game, VERY, VERY worthwhile indeed!
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK FOLKS!
Take Care,
Skywolf1
