First of all, let me introduce myself.

I am Antoine Rottiers, Wizards of the Coast League Representative (my predecessor in this function was Harlan to give you a rough idea).

I've been working for WotC since november but I am a Magic player since 95. I started Pokemon at the time (and even played a tournament) with my wife but stepped out of the game... Now I am gonna play a bit again, to keep in touch with you, the players.

By reading the previous posts I can see that your expectations are high and your complaints numerous, so I chose to have an helm as icon to protect myself [Razz]

I am working for the Leagues so feel free to contact me with your problems regarding the leagues. For other matters I'll try to help you or at leastredirect your conceerns to the right persons.

Consider me as your contact person with Wizards.

I have a piece of information for you:
The Worlds Championships will be held at the
Washington State Convention and Trade Center, Room 4C
800 Convention Place
Downtown Seattle on August 3 & 4, 2002

I should attend this event so feel free to come over for a talk.
Otherwise I'll attend the Gym Challenge in Antwerp for sure and probably the Stadium Challenge. If I go to another Gym in Europe, I'll let you know.

Have fun with the Game

Antoine

Antoine,

welcome to the board ... I take it that as the WotC representative in Europe you are excluding the UK, France and Italy as Normal?

In which case nice to have you here can you liaise closely with those offices in Europe but outside your sphere of control so that we get one voice, one vision...

Freddy K,

and you believed Lee [Dropjaw]

Like I say I am sure he says that but does he really mean it..... Today I rang 7 of the Leagues in the SE of England and East Anglia about our Gym Challenge on the 7th April... 2 were no longer doing the league and all of them had had no deatails from WotC UK on any of the Gym Challenges ... 10 days to go and no promotion at all and yet again it isn't on the website..

Come on WotC if we are to run a true partnership you can't keep letting us down with false promises.

'pro I am really surprised that the leagues still have no news of the 'Challenge'.

Perhaps you could suggest to Lee to do a mailshot asap to all the members in the country that he has addresses of (from eg. Birthday Pika competition) so that everybody knows.

When did you last speak to him? I've had 2 e-mails in as many days.

Antoine - welcome to the boards!

I hope that you can make it to Amsterdam as I will have the opportunity then to meet you in person. I must say that Harlan did a great job for WotC-Europe and European players - particularly the members of Team Europe who got to know him a great deal at the STSQs and the STSs, are expecting much from his successor!

Antoine, we need a few things clarified as soon as possible. First of all, an up-to-date schedule of the Gym and Stadium Challenges taking place in Europe this year - we understand that details are being finalised but knowing that x number of Stadium/Gym Challenges are being planned for instance and in what country would be most helpful.

Secondly we need as soon as possible the format chosen for the Professor Events that will send Judges to Worlds later in the year. Quite a few players will be coming from abroad and so they will need as much notice as possible so that they can practice the correct formats. At the moment I am expecting the 'Modified' format for both the Gym and the Stadium Challenges, for a variety of reasons.

Lastly through you it would be ideal to obtain the information of events taking place in France and Italy, as communication would seem to be better through yourself than through players to these WotC HQs, particularly across national boundaries.

That's all I can think of for now.

Hello Antoine,

Welcome to the boards ...

The helmet is not a bad idea, [Wink] ... but I think that if you summarize what is said in this topic, our complaints are always the same.

Thanks for joining us. To read you is, and will be, very helpful and motivating for the community.

Like Ukpokemonpro said, I suppose you're the 'voice' of WotC Europe, not the one of the UK, France and Italy Offices (if you are, I suggest you to take 2 helmets [Razz] )

______________

FreddyK,

Why do you ask how many Challenges and Stadium will be run and in which countries ? Don't you read my posts ? [Evil Smirk] [ROFL]

Just one stupid question to my friends from UK.

Didn't you say that a Prof event (with a ticket to the Worlds) would be organized at the GenCon ? I think the GenCon is at the end of August ... Worlds at the beginning of the same month [Big Grin]

Is it a ticket for the Worlds 2003 ? [Evil Smirk]
If it is, I don't want to see posts like 'UK is always later than the other countries' anymore !!! [Big Grin]

Hmmm interesting point, Michel.

Worlds. GenConUK.

[Confused]

It would be nice to know if there are more than just two Judges that will be sent to help out at 'Worlds', representing all four of WotC's European divisions.

Do we believe that France will host a Challenge event at all?
And Italy's National Challenge will be too late for 'Worlds', no?

Welcome to the boards, Kanijo Rebelde!

Without the support, we couldn't possibly say that we truly reflect the views and opinions of players across the continent such as yourself. Many thanks for the post and do please visit this site often to see whether we can bring about some change or confirmation, with regards to a 'Challenge' taking place in Spain.

At one time earlier in the year it was even mentioned that a third 'Stadium' Challenge complete with Professor tournament would take place in Spain. What happened to that, I wonder.

They must have something organised this year, for it was Portugal that won the Tropical Mega Battle last year. What a shame it would be if both Spain and Portugal couldn't play in any national competitions after such a success.

[Frown]

What is league play like over there in Spain, Kanijo?

League in Spain (at least in Barcelona) is not going so well. Our main problem is that card sets are only available in English, but a lot of spanish 15- kids can't understand English texts [Frown]

Then, after Base, Jungle and Fossil (available in spanish), the game is decaying more and more (only Neo:Genesis had been distributed in spanish, close to the last STS in Barcelona).

Moreover, usually is very difficult to organize tournaments in Spain. I have been trying to be a TO from more than one month ago, and I received no response from the spanish distributors. And other TO said me that they received no responses when they called them in order to obtain some supporting material for tournaments. [Frown] [NoNoNo]

I hope, at least, that we will have any Challenge series (not scheduled yet) here in order to revive the game. [Angel]

That's very sad to hear. [Frown]

I really can't see why the cards cannot be translated into Spanish in the first place - it makes sense if you wish to sell cards in Spain.

It would be interesting to hear Antoine's point of view on this.

Thanks for your nice welcome. I didn´t mentioned one thing, I´m a 15+ player (I just turned 16),

===

About translating cards to Spanish:

A lot of people in the world speak Spanish, not only in Spain, also in South America (Argentina, Chile...) and Mexico.

But I think a lot of 14- (at least in Madrid) understand perfectly the card texts, really.
99% of 15+ understands perfectly card texts too...

====

About Prfessor Program or 15+ tourneys:

===Stadium Challenge (15+ & 15- Worlds' Trip)===

=June 9th - Amsterdam, Holland
=TBC - October - Italy

I´m planning to travel to Italy in October... I can´t travel to holland because is very far from Spain [Dubious]

Again, I claim a 15+ tour in Europe, like last year... It doesn´t matter me if is a 15+ Stadium Challenge or a Professor Tournament... but PLEASE...

See ya!

PS: Congratulations to Laeticia for winning last year Spanish STS.

..................................................

ANSA..............................................
So far with pre-registered and promises at least 60 players and that is without any on spec.
..................................................

Freddy K, as to Lee and contact Bob chased him again yesterday for a press release still nothing looks like going first in the Gym Challenges for the UK is a real pain!!

I have spoken to Chris about London and he has around 20 players to come down to Rainham so maybe we will get a full house despite WotC UKs inactivity.

Well a week and a bit to go ...
