Now that Pokemon USA has determined it will not allow competition with itself for the new sets,

Oh come on. What will the next step be, logically?

Pokemon-USA will hold their own tourneys this summer and make it difficult for Wizards to hold theirs at Gen Con and Origins.

Pokemon-USA has already announced a summer tourney schedule will be forthcoming, trying to get premiere TOs to run the same...

They are going to try to force us to choose between the past, and the future this summer...

How will you choose? What if Pokemon USA offers trips? Would that change your mind?

Just food for thought.

Why is it that everyone assumes that WotC did not have a hand in this too?

Think about it already there are grumblings that the sets are coming out too fast and that we get Aquapolis and before you can draw breath we have Skyridge.. WotC has a ton of product still to shift .. remember the B stock warehouse... well in the UK we are starting to see some of that shifting .. retailers buying case loads of stock cheap and passing that saving on to us.

Now given the choice between older cheaper cards, new wotc stock and new Nintendo stock who knows what people will buy.

WotC would have been left with a diluted market if it had produce it's sets .. ie bigger choice to the customer but still the same potential customer spending ..

So instead they get 2 or 3 months of selling e-card before Nintendo hit the market and they have to bargain basement all their product.

Remember WotC have the License for the sets .. do not believe all you read as has been shown sometimes it's not all true ...

The only conflict I see is if they're held simultaneously with GenCon and Origins. Otherwise:

more tourneys = more better

Is it not just a matter of time, say 6 weeks or less, before this forum closes down?

After all, it won't do to have all this hopeful talk about a competitor company posted HERE!

Were LCII and Jamboree just smoke in the wind to keep players looking ahead and buying the last 2 e-card sets?

My personal bet: there will be no WotC Pokémon tournaments this summer. This next SBZ is our last dance.

I really think that once Nintendo's first release hits the streets, any remaining vestiges of WotC Pokémon involvement will vanish.

I imagine all of this was forseen, and planned for, a long time ago. Telling the players ahead of time just isn't good for business.

I'm not buying this at all.

Nintendo has prevented Wizards from releasing 3 sets of cards over a 4 month period.

3 sets in 4 months in unprecedented.

That, coupled with Nintendo's scheduled release in June, would make 4 sets in 4 months and flood the market.

Clearly, Nintendo wants to throttle back the release of cards.

How better to do it than (a) stop the RE-release of cards (i.e., LC2) and (b) release cards that coincide with other Pokemon products (i.e., Ruby/Sapphire Pokemon).

As for Jamboree, as far as Nintendo is concerned, they probably view that as an anomoly. It doesn't exist in Japan, so there's little interest in supporting it here.

As for tournaments, to suggest that Nintendo has some nefarious scheme to mess up Wizards at Origins or Gencon is a little too sketchy for me.

I hope that Nintendo can somehow have a presence at either Origins or Gencon (or both, that would be best) to show that they are committed to OP and large events.

Like Steve said, More Tournaments = More Better.

Hi gang,

I understand that there are many views on what has happened and will happen with Pokemon during the transition.

I won't talk about any specifics or anything that hasn't already been announced but I will confirm a few things.

Wizards of the Coast fully planned on releasing LC2 (as another product designed for limited play) this summer. It has been on our schedule for quite some time now. We are now not allowed to do so.

Work on Jamboree was started over a year and a half ago. Many of you may have heard us working on a WOTC designed set back in 2001. It was an enjoyable process and I think that there would have been many cards you would have been excited with. We are now not allowed to do so.

There have been some questions about timing and suggestions that there are "larger plans" either here at WOTC or at Nintendo.

That has never been the case.

Yes, we were working on these sets and hoped to release them. TPC has told us that we cannot.

Pokemon is a business (you've heard me say this before). These are all business decisions being made.

Also please keep in mind that there are many many months of work (negotiations, design, approvals, and so on) that go on here at Wizards or at TPC before any decisions or announcements are made.

When we know something to be a solid fact, then we announce it. But please do not think that these decisions are made by any company quickly or capriciously. That is truly not the case.

Just so you know, I have cases of new product, promos, foil energies, trophies, jackets, shirts, and other goodies that I am putting together for the events at Origins and Gen Con. Those events will happen.

The final months of BattleZone are being worked on and I plan on using it as a vehicle to be able to thank as many of you as possible for being involved with Pokemon and Wizards of the Coast and to wish you a great future to continue with Pokemon. If you can't make either Origins or Gen Con, make sure to go to your local BattleZone so you can also partake in it.

While I do not know Nintendo's specific plans, I truly believe that they are making their decisions based on what they believe to be best for the Brand, the Pokemon market, and the Pokemon consumer, just as Wizards of the Coast has done and will continue to do the same.

I look forward to seeing and thanking as many of you as possible at Origins & Gen Con or through BattleZone or other forms of contact. You all helped keep Pokemon alive and thriving here just as you will continue to do so there.

See you soon.

Mike:

Thank you once again for speaking up and clarifying some of these issues.

I truly believe that you guys have done an absolutely unbelievable job of keeping us updated and informed (when real information was available).

I know of very few organizations that provide the kind of weekly chat that you have been offering for some time now. Ironically, he who communicates the most often finds himself subject to questions about whether more could have been communicated. People get to know you and have access to you and therefore begin to believe that you should communicate everything--even before it is fully formed.

I think that you done a fabulous job and hope that you leave Pokemon with a sense of true accomplishment. I hope that you have found this job to be--on the whole--filled with rewards, which outweigh the inevitable stresses.

Thanks.

Yours truly,

An Appreciative Fan (One of Many)

Pokemon USA has considered the Wizards of the Coast events at GenCon and Origins, as well as the upcoming Super BattleZone. They have no plans on stopping these events or cancling them. Logically, any event or tournament that supports the Pokemon TCG will support Pokemon USA too.

They are not the bad guys that you make them out to be [Razz]

Hey, I am not making them out to be bad guys, just thought it was odd that they stopped two announced sets (which meant the business decision was made to create them), and then they go hunting for TOs to work their programs, which they state will start this summer, which appear to coincide with the final Wizards events.

I am all for more tourneys, otherwise where would I go for vacation, Disneyworld, Hawaii? No, there would be noone to shuffle and cut with there.

I am just hoping my gut fear is wrong. I cannot wait for GenCon and Origins to see old friends, new friends, and run this gambit with Wizards one last time!
