In another thread SauroN said that the number of leagues has dropped from around 100 to 14 in Sweden - According to WotC's own list it's 28, but the list looks out of date. According to the same WotC info, Germany should have 86 leagues, UK 26, Belgium 14, Netherlands 34, Norway 4, Denmark 17, Finland 10, France 0 (!), Italy 261 (!), Spain 57 etc. Is that correct?

Is there up-to date information anywhere?

I believe my information is correct. Dumbledore called our distributor and they said it was 14.

Thanks SauroN.

The WotC list had a shop that I know have stopped to run a Pokémon TCG league. So, 14 Leagues in Sweden, what is the situation elsewhere?

In germany I only know about 2 leagues which really exist: one in Munich and the other in Stuttgart. I phoned to 10 leagues before worlds and only one actually was available. The other answered things like, we quit and nobody removed us from the leaguelist! I guess that in germany only 10 league are still open [Frown] .

These numbers are worring...

Sweden have gone from 28 to 14 [Frown]
Germany from 86 to roughly 10 [Frown]
UK from 26 to 6 [Frown]
Norway from 4 to 0(well, say 1 as there is OP in one shop) [Frown]

This means that in these four countries the number of leagues have dropped from 144 to about 30, or in other words: more than three quarters of the leagues have disapeared.
[Dropjaw]

This is probably the reason why WotC have decided to stop Expedition, the players are so few that they can be ignored, at least in comparison to Nintendo's influence. [Mad]

How many of these 31 have recieved enough of Expedition for the set to be properly tested?

For Sweden my guess is that at most five have Expedition cards, but it is as likely that none of them have Expedition cards to play with.

James Lee sent an email out to the prof list. Possibly to just the european Profs, asking about the availability of expedition in Europe.

I responded that there was no difficulty in getting the cards and at a cost below normal retail. I'm still waiting for my boxes to arrive, but the process is easy.

Yes, It's not THAT hard to import the cards, but I'm not sure that all leagues will have someone that takes the intitiative...

Let's just hope that enough leagues survive to keep the game going on this side of the Atlantic ocean.

Lord Ninetales is trying to get a league going up in scotland. He has a location and some interested people. It might be running already, but I havn't had any news from him lately. I'll ask him for an update. I wonder why all the leagues are disappearing? Maybe because pokemon has lost some of it's popularity? It still makes very little sense because they havn't lost anywhere near 3/4 of it. Pokemon is still selling like hotcakes in the few locations that carry it.

Lack of publicity from WotC, lack of posters to advertise league, magazine campaigns listing the location of leagues which is more useful than just a generic website address of wizards.com/pokemon. The WotC league list is very wrong, so when people contact the old leagues and find out that no-one has a clue what they're on about, they just move on.

Quite sad really.
Perhaps someone from WotC-Europe can help us put that right? Ann?

At the start of Year 2, we were 4 Leagues in Norway. Now, at the start of Year 3: 9! League is going stronger than ever here. I don't like to brag, but I reckon we can thank two ducks for that. [Wink]

Go to http://webapp.wizards.com/dcitournament/Default.asp?game=PK

Choose Any Format - Individual play - Country: Norway - Status: All and click search.

As you see, we have pretty good OP in Norway, we've had more than 20 tournaments since May.

How many leagues in Europe ?

Excellent question !

I would add 'Where are there leagues in Europe ?'

Do WE have to answer to that question ? [Confused]

Good to see that Norway have active leagues! But it looks like only two report to DCI and when I do the same search for Sweden I get... NO tournaments since 12/9/2001!

The problem is, accordning to Golduck there are 9 leagues in Norway, SauroN claims there are 14 leagues in Sweden. How can new players find a league? WotC doesn't have the info...

I run a norwegian website (http://eovestre.home.online.no/pokemon)and often get e-mails from people asking where they can find a League. There's no other place to ask, I guess. Wizards should do something about this!

The Oasis gym I mentioned is the Doncaster/pontefract/North

Though there was a Gym Challenge held in Torquay (at The Pit) I thought that the league had long since expired. Hope I'm wrong.

Could be something on Jersey too, and maybe Peterborough but the problem is that we have no way of knowing!

What hope is there for the potential player on the street to find a venue?

I didn't write that list, Midgaard (norwegian distributor) did. And actually, my address is correct to have there, because the League kits are sent to my home, and I do all the e-mailing with Midgaard. But of course, when at League, you're just as much GL as I am. [Smile]

League # Update:
There are actually 13 Leagues in Norway at the moment, not 9.
