Hmm where to begin. I'm very much afraid anything I say now will be taken the wrong way, however I have never backed away from trying to do/say what the facts are.

These are them as discussed with MTM and trying to figure out exactly what is going on.

There are no "FAT" tournaments over there.A mistake on our part thinking there were. We were under that impression. It appears we are incorrect.

You do have "Challenge" style tournaments coming in Belguim and the UK however and I believe Italy has already had an event. Things we will not have here in the US. These are where additional things will be used.

Product is being requested and shipped to offices in support of these.

It is not appropriate for us to divulge what that product is or how that product will be used. Not only do we not know what is planned, but it is not our show to run. We do not know what will be included in prize support. The product could have a variety of uses. Surely you can see that. If Some item does not appear in prize support it will cause a problem. If Belguim gets 25 of this and UK gets 30 of that it will cause a problem. If Foil Energy is used to pay judges and does not appear on a prize list...it will cause a...

Hopefully you can see the logic in this. If not then I'm at a loss to explain any more succinctly.

Additional stuff is being/will be sent from our side to support your events. As well as what they already have.

Thanks for your post DMTM.

Of course it's not Wizards USA who should give a prize list for Europe or UK. But look at who's giving the information these last days about Antwerp ? No info given directly by Wizards Europe [Wink]

Challenge tournaments ? One in London last August (2 qualified), one in Antwerp (two qualified). 4 European players will go to Indianapolis.
I don't say it's a bad thing, but if you compare that and the prizes that will be offered with what US players will have in the US (Super BattleZone, GenCon, Origins, San Diego), I'm sure you'll understand that we'd prefer to be Pokemon players on your side of the Atlantic [Wink]

50 locations for SBZ, three main events with big prizes, 5 different dates (some during the holidays) and venues all over the country in the USA.
Would you compare that to the two tournaments in Europe, one during the most busy week end for kids in some European countries and the other in the middle of the exam period, two tournaments with far less prizes than our US friends.
Yup Mike, we'd really prefer to be players in the USA !

Italy ? Marcello, you know that the tournament in Lucca had been announced as a qualifier. The winner had received the trip as prize and therefor less boosters than my daughter who was second.
After that, they've said that it would be a qualifier for GenCon if Worlds was not run. Now you say it was a qualifier for the Nationals ??? Nationals open to local players only !!! You know how I call that ? Playing with a very personal part of the players ! (no Mods, I didn't say it [Wink] )
Some people have traveled from Germany or Belgium to play in Lucca. We've been there because it was a qualifier. We love the game but do you think we'd invest all that money for a local tournament or a qualifier for a tournament where we are banned ?
Wizards Italy has been dishonest on this one. Broken promises and false prizes announced and offered [Dubious]
Great for the name of the company !

Mike, despite what has been said in some of the posts of this topic, I'm absolutely sure that all the European players (I include UK in Europe this time), TO's and Professors do really appreciate what you, MTM and other people in Renton, have done and still do for the game and for the players. Pokemon would have never been so great without guys like you [Wink]

Michel: I'm really sorry, and all players are sad about that. The GCs were originally qualifiers, but it was not sure abour Worlds. So, they told that it was not sure about that, and they were surely a qualifier for nationals.

I'm not taking part of WoTC italy, but they had some troubles with Hasbro in these months, which reduced the actual staff from 30 to 3 people.

The card-e series in Italian, besides the E-reader contents lack, are printed on an odd paper, and - without code - have the same booster content (9 cards) at the same prizes of the card-e ones.

Barbara Fasolini, now marketing manager, is really sad about these problems, and so the new OP manager.
We used our best effortsto make a good National, tournament, in a garage-type room and with big troubles with everything (the shoppers for players were all wrong, we had to re-make them in 30 minutes before the start of registrations).

I'm sorry for you all foreign players, but don't complain against Wizards Italy... It's not their fault if all that has happened.

And about the "No-no FAT"... As always, we have to do our best to make our own tournaments without thinking of a support... If there'll be, "tant mieux". But the tournament has to go on, with or without external support. Please fellow Professors, don't give up now, and demonstrate to all the worlds that we are great also without cases and/or promos.

Anyway, I think MTM will send something to everyone [Smile]

Marcello,

YOU don't have to be sorry [Wink]
We've had a great time in Lucca, and the tournament was really great.

I'm sure Barbara is sad about these problems, and I'm sure you've all done a great job to run a good nationals. I've already told you how I had been impressed by the quality and the involvment of the Italian Profs I've met in Lucca.

Concerning the other part of your post, I'd answer in two points :

1, I don't care if it's WotC Italy's fault or not. European, and Italian players have played a tournament that had been announced as a qualifier, it had to be one.
When a Company commits oneself to do something, when a Company makes promises to the customers, it has to be done. Who will trust Wizards Italy now ? You're talking about Hasbro ? As far as I know, Wizards and Hasbro are the same company.

2, I've always thought that the relation between Wizards and the Professors or TO's was a relation in which both sides were going to work together.

It works well with the USA, thanks to guys like the MT's. These guys are not only there for the USA, but they're our only positive connection with what happens in our Pokemon World. Examples ? The chat, the Prof mail, the rulings, Wizards website, the Pokegym, ... Where are the European offices ?
They have no time ? NO, they don't take the time, they probably have other priorities. (BTW, how was the Grand Prix in Venezia ? Canceled or run by individuals too ? [Wink] )

I'm not here to fight for running a tournament, to fight for having league or BZ kits, to fight for having cards that are never released in Europe, to fight for having prize support for tournaments, having some info about what happens or not, ...
I'm a Professor, and proud of it, but I want to work WITH a company, not in their place or despite that Company. (Wizards/Hasbro or Nintendo [Wink] )

Yes Marcello, we're great too without cases and promos. But don't you think that the kid who'll come to play your tournament would be happy to have nice prizes ? Don't you think he deserves the same tournaments and prizes as the kid who'll see the MT's in San Diego, Origins or Indianapolis ? Don't you think WE deserve the same too ?
MTM said to the US Profs 'Come in Indy and play, we don't wan't you to judge'
What will happen in Europe ? We'll judge in Antwerp (ok, we'll have a Prof event) and London will be run and judged by UK Profs.
Not exactly the same, no ?

A FAT is a Fan APPRECIATION Tournament.
Appreciation ? [Bounce]

The MT's were wrong, they were under the impression that we would have FAT too. Too bad, when we've heard 'Fan Appreciation Tournaments for all the players in the World' we've had the same impression.

I'm not jealous, I'm really happy for my US friends. I'm just sad for the kids who love playing in big events, for these kids I meet every week at my league or at the tournaments I run. For a lot of these kids, a main event is the most important day of the year, a great souvenir, a great time and a lot of fun.
As there is only one tournament in Europe, some of them will miss it bacause of their exams or other obligations. No other opportunity for them. As I've already said, London is in the middle of the exam period for a lot of kids.

Those who'll go to Antwerp will have nice prizes, like the kids who'll play in London. I just hope they'll not see the prize lists of GenCon or Origins [Wink]

And yes, I'm sure MTM will send everything in time. (please DMTM, could you add some boxes for the Professors ? boxes of donuts of course, and eventually the box with the Brookses for a giant draft, but without Sneasel who wouldn't be allowed in Belgium by the customs [Wink] )

Magic is a Wizards product. UK, Europe and Italy are independant offices with their own budget, organization, staff restrictions, ...
But why do we play Pokemon in Europe ? [Dubious]

Summary

1) There are NO FATS outside the USA

2) The London event is like a SBZ

3) Antwerp is a CHALENGE EVENT with qualifiers for gencon

4) Local Offices are being given the opportunity to obtain materials for further distribution to their local players.

5) The MTs aren't privy to the detail of what is happening outside the USA.

comments

1) [Frown] but true

2) Trust us; its closest to an american SBZ than anything else. We know because we are running/organising it!

3) Thanks Michel for the link!

4) Pester your local office to ensure that the materials are ordered. Exactly what is available to each office may vary. That doesn't worry me personally as long as we understand what the situation is.

5) We always knew this and never intended any criticism for any inability to tell us what you don't know [Wink]

That would be really great for Daniel.
He played a great tournament in Lucca and really deserved his win against my daughter in the final.

That would be a good point for the credibility of Wizards Italy and Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro in general.

Hi guys

I talked a few days ago with Ilja Rotelli, telling it about complains from players about the missing trips.
He told me that there was no trips planned...

And now Barbara (who I hope to see next week in Hasbro's offices) is organizing the trips giveaway?

I'm really happy, everyone! ^^
I'll post more detailed infos when I'll talk with Barbara [Smile]

Miguel, and everyone, next week I planned to go to talk with Barbara Fasolini, so I'll give you more details about this situation. From my knowledges, there is no trip for Indianapolis. BUT if Daniel Cohen has been contacted by Wizards Italy about the trip, it's fair that EACH and EVERY winner of the Supersfida (i.e. Lucca, Milano, Palermo, Ancona) is given the trip.

I'll post more infos soon. ^^

Marcello, thanks for taking care of that [Smile]

Either Ilja Rotelli has very bad information (quite surprizing if he's a Wizards staff member in Italy [ROFL] ), or he deliberately changes the truth [Confused]

The tournaments in Italy WERE qualifiers, here's your post dated Oct 27, 2002 :

"The "Pokémon Supersfida" (= Italian Challenge Series) starts next week in Lucca (Italy)!
We'll have a big tournament into the "Lucca Comics" expo, and like always, for winners the trip for Worlds 2003!
Tournament format: New Modified (with restrictions for Promos, etc.)
When: November, 3; 10.00 AM

There'll be also a Professor Draft after the Tournament... We don't know the prizes, WoTC Italy take the secret... ^^;

There'll be some foreign people who will participate in this Tournament... European players, we wait for you! "

Are we liars ? [Confused]

I do perfectly remember that my daughter got more boosters than Daniel in Lucca ... because he had won the trip. I do also perfectly remember that the trip has been announced as prizes for the winners before and during the tournament.
Am I a liar ?

After that (Milano Gym Challenge), Wizards Italy told me that, if Wolrds was not run in 2003, the trip will be offered for a main event in the USA.
GenCon is not a main event ?

Please Wizards/Hasbro, stop taking the players for idiots.

Hi all.
In reply to my e-mail, Barbara Fasolini told me that she had not contacted ANYONE, cause she is not anymore involved in OP, as we know.

So, or Daniel was contacted by Ilja Rotelli, or I don't know.

Unfortunately, this week there are the M:TG Italian Nationals, and the WoTC staff is not in Milan... I'll go in Hasbro offices next week, cause I have to take my HP deck, the red stamper, and the Skyridge box for judging nationals.

In addition, I'll talk with Ilja about that... I would prefer to talk with Daniel Cohen, but it's not possible [Frown]

I phoned with Daniel and his mother one more time and they told me:
They have received a letter from Ilja Rotelli, in which is confirmed, that they will fly to Indianapolis. The planetickets will be payed.
So if this letter isn't a fake and nothing unexpected happens, Daniel Cohen and his mother will fly to GenCon as a result of winning Lucca!

Really great. I'm happy for Daniel.
I hope he'll have a lot of fun in Indianapolis [Wink]

Please read my previous posts about this with a 'if it was true' before you start reading [Wink]

But that doesn't mean that I find the information given by Wizards/Hasbro good enough.
'I don't say anything if it's not 100% sure' is one thing, and I do agree with that.
But not giving information at all, or giving information going in different ways is something else.

It's quite surprizing that information given on the web (chat for example) is not known in the offices. Quite surprizing too that info given in the USA is different, or in contradiction, with what is said in the other offices on the same subject.
Offices are independant, ok, but for the community, Pokemon is the same game all over the World and Wizards/Hasbro is an international company.
How do you want us to follow the story ? [Dubious]

Michel: I think your complains were eared by WoTC italy... Cause the letter was obiouvsly sent after my e-mail where I told to Ilja the complains from all players about the missing trips.
After giving me a negative answer, maybe he read the forum and found that it was the time to organize something...

BUT if Daniel Cohen has been contacted by Wizards Italy about the trip, it's fair that EACH and EVERY winner of the Supersfida (i.e. Lucca, Milano, Palermo, Ancona) is given the trip.

I'll post more infos soon. ^^

Hmmm
You mean we become the trip ?

[Dubious]

Hi Michel
I coem to Antwerpen
Can I then speak with you about Milano?
Or GENCON ?
Write back bye
