This statement from MTM (taken from the Professor e-mail list) made me think:
Finally, a hint. Super BattleZone is coming!!!!! Details will appear on our web site in the next week or so. Feb 1st 2003 seems like it may be a pretty cool day though.
And this statement from the Norwegian organized play manager:
Wizards Europe told me that Europe will discontinue League Year 3 [NOTE: Europe is currently in the Fire Season] and start on Battlezone in February. And this old well-known statement:
No news about the Challenge Series. Wait until early next year.
This is just a "guess", but I think that Battlezone will Qualify for Worlds 2003! It all seems logical now. That's why the Challenge Series didn't start in November, but instead Battlezone appeared. That's why Europe has to start on Battle Zone (Worlds without Europe, anyone?) and that's why it isn't called League anymore.
In February, Wizards will start to select various Battlezones which will have large-scale tournaments, morphing into Super BattleZone.
Instead of Gym Challenges and Stadium Challenges, which didn't have the best attendance this year. This should be an easier way to organize stuff. Of course, some Battlezones would need bigger locations and more judges when they're actually Qualifying for Worlds, but probably several Battlezones would join and rent a big playing location and all support with judges.
Am I turning insane? Or is the "lack of information", "game is dying" and "AAAH! Heeelp!!! Challenge Series? WHEN WHEN?" problems solved? [ December 11, 2002, 03:40 AM: Message edited by: Golduck ]

Hmmm... Could well be...
If so, then I am uncertain what to think of it. My opinion hinges on the (as yet) unknown quality of any "Super Battlezone" events.
This would certainly be a way for WotC to reduce the OP budget. I'm betting that it's on the chopping block (by managerial directive).
If so, anything is far better than nothing, and I will gladly support it!
Then again, "Super Battlezone" may just be a new way of referring to the Challenge Series.
I can't wait for the details!

No. The problems are NOT solved.
But it IS a start.
The problems can not be solved from one end. Most people who read my initial post in the topic I started which you are obviously refering to stopped reading about halfway through or they would have recognized that.
Hmm. It seems whenever you try to spur people to do something, you get labeled as a "whiner." Whatever.
It's nice that WotC has also gotten Target to run BattleZone this year. Maybe there won't be another 50% falloff in the locations this year.
Now, it's our turn.

oh ... uhhhhhhhh ... =/
Sweden; a small country with almost no leagues and only two professors (who live in the same town mind you and both are about to quit the game)
Our distributor is worthless. They didnt even know what the professor program was. They promised they would arrange a "pokemon road trip" around the country to get the game on its feet again. How can THIS Battle Zone crap solve any problems, we dont have any leagues. dont tell me to do something cuz theres nothing we can do. we cant do anything without the help from our distributor/WotC Europe. The game died in sweden when our old distributor went bankrupt and we dropped from 100 to 14- leagues. How can THIS solve any problems in norway, eskil ? you have like one active league there.
god ... if this theory IS true then ...
OH YEAH! I WHINE! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

SauroN, the problems in Sweden are important, I agree. We need to get Pokémon going again in Sweden, and you and Dumbledore can't do that all by your self. We need Wizards Europe's help. I think Skywolf's Wizards Europe chat will help. De Brandt will also attend them now.
Does it "solve" anything? It depends. It depends on what the Super BattleZone really is. It could be like the Challenge Series, it could be more like the original STSQ Tour too. Or possibly, it doesn't replace anything, but is in addition to the Challenge Series.

I understand your situation in Sweden with RE: to the state of the game. I need most of you to get back with me please, because I need to set up a time for a chat in January with Ms. de Brandt at WotC/Europe, and I want to know what works best, as far as time and day goes, for everyone up there.

Target has asked not to be approached about battlezone. Period.

Has there be any new news since that? master_trainer_mike says, "Well, Books-a Million, Hastings, Gamekeeprs, and Wizards of the Coast tsores are all running BattleZone starting in January." master_trainer_mike says, "Target has chosen not to at this time."
and:

They have specifically requested to not be approached about BattleZone."

If this were the case (SBZ replacing the Challenge series), I think that the MTs would have mentioned something by now. It is possible, however, that SBZ will suppliment the series somehow.

Well, I hope that they get the info on the next challenge series up soon cause flights tend to be cheaper when you book in advance... Anyway, what's the deal with "Super Battlezone" anyway? Couldn't wizards' marketing department come up with something cooler like, "Elite Warzone Omega" or something? *shrugs* Just a thought to those higher ups over there... ~TRC
