How are you getting there? I don't know if you have heard of the league in Slough on Sundays, contact me after/in(?) Amsterdam about it.

We are meeting up in the Wizards' hotel the night before.

Okay like after 2 minutes of internet research I can say you'll be playing Dark Muk in Amsterdam, and also you came 4th with a Dark Gengar deck in the London GC meaning you're 11-14 probably.

But.

I know one person won with Dark Gengar/Slowking. Am I getting closer?

Hey Freddy,
I've been in contact with TING about Amsterdam... I wasn't sure of your screen name(if you have one). I think we met at the London GC. I came 3rd/4th with a Dark Gengar deck. It was Sami who came 1st(one of my London friends). I go to London to play Pokemon. We have like 3 DCI tournaments a week, as well as a booster draft. From what I've heard, Slough doesn't do DCI tournaments, and there are only about 8 people. That's fine, but there are lots of the top 10 DCI ranked players in London, so it's good practice. I might go to Slough sometime though. (actually, I did go this Sunday, after the match, but no one was there...) I'd like to meet you all again though, so I'll probably go again after Amsterdam.
Correct, Dark Muk was one of my early ideas, but the deck fix that you saw on that website was actually his deck, not mine..
Anyway, see you all in Amsterdam. (Freddy, what's your e-mail.. we can organise a Team UK as well as Team Europe, since almost everyone there will be from Team Europe.)

BTW, I'm still up for a Legendary Collection booster draft on Saturday night..

Hi,

Going to league after an England World Cup match sounds quite naive to me [Smile] even I didn't go and I'm the Gym Leader!

London has the 'top 10' players but many of the top players in the UK don't actually take part in DCI play. Blame WotC-UK for not helping out leagues on that front - we do genuinely want to but after promises of promos on the phone, well you can read the rest of the post to find the rest, eh ukpokémonpro? [Roll Eyes]

We have two players who made top 8 in two UK Gym Challenges, one who won her GC, and myself who won what is detailed below. I think you should find enough competition for yourself, at Slough. Everyone knows DCI rankings are flawed where support isn't given.

I'm afraid my ties are with Team Europe, so I'm not really going to go for a Team UK. Sorry [Angel] Just a bit too much history there.

Good luck in Amsterdam, the majority of Team Europe players there will be 15+ but I'm sure you'll be made welcome.

Now Irwin this doesn't win friends and if you look at the top ten in England you will find that it looks like this...

quote:
Ranking Name Rating Location

1 Ben W Ward 2029 Gillingham. Kent, England
2 Alan Mcnamara 2012 London, England
3 Sammy Sekkoum 1921 London, England
4 Nitish Doolub 1920 Haywards Heath, England
5 Steven Yau 1840 Rainham, England
6 Geoffrey Woodhead 1835 Rainham, England
7 Shashi Doolub 1832 Haywards Heath, England
8 Amy Clarke 1794 London, England
9 Louis Lu 1778 London., England
10 Matthew P Peskett 1765 Chatham, England

That's 4 of the English top 10 in Rainham... now you may play a very competative league in London; but that doesn't mean that your players are the best and you may even be missing a trick by not taking time out to study the cards build weird decks and try off the wall formats like other leagues do.

Freddy has certainly put a lot of time and effort into the game and his league produces some of the best players in the country.

At UK GenCon in August we will all get a chance to play each other again and the talk is that one of the main tourneys will be unlimited [Dubious] , that with draft and MMF should give us a good all round test of who are the country's best.

Until then I shall walk softly and carry a large stick

To be fair IrwinMalek didn't say all the top 10 DCI players are in London just some of them, but the comments of others are equally valid. DCI rankings are worthless for Pokémon in the UK as they are updated once on the 4th of never.

Alan Macnamara is still no. 2 - he hasn't played in a tournament for nearly 5 months !!!

As to not playing well that can help your position in the DCI rankings as your points go up and down with each game played so even if you win a large tourney you may on the way lose to a relatively low ranked player and come out with less points than when you started!

And I agree that DCI ranking is not important when it doesn't reflect the individual's work and commitment to the game. Professorship and Master Professorship now that is a better reflection of rank...

NoPoke just sent me an email that includes the following..

quote:
I tried to get some league promo's out of WotCUK.. basically they are telling me that the only way I'll get promo's from now on is to submit lots of 8 player knockouts. League dies in the UK again it seems.

My lot have become so disillusioned with Pokemon that they are mostly playing Star Wars

If the leagues are to be a major arm of promoting the game in the UK and the rest of the world this cannot be allowed to happen!

Now I have been lucky and have managed to get some promos and badges out of WotC UK and will be able to finish year 2 of the league... But I have no idea when year 3 will start and this despite assurances that the UK would try to catch up to the US league schedule..

Now things change and business needs often mean that shifting goals move the focus to a different area but... The league needs to have the goods to run, we can run it ourselves if we can get access to the Promo's.

Take heed that once again all is not well outside the US and still we fight to get support from WotC local offices now attached and run??? .. by Hasbro??

I just got home from my Amsterdam trip. The tournament was a bit chaotic, it started a few hours later than it should for 14-. Then we were told that we Professor had to wait with our tourney until the 14- were finished with their Swiss rounds. The problem was... they were delayed and had 7 Swiss Rounds!
[Dropjaw]

The Prof tournament started about 7.30 PM. We ran 3 Swiss rounds of Modified, with a Top 8. Five TE members made the top 8:

-Me, Norway TE
-Stoney, Holland TE
-SauroN, Sweden TE
-Michael From, Denmark TE
-??? Kim, Germany TE
-Dark Tyranitar player, Holland
-Some dutch girl
-Some guy who drafted very slow

I beat Stoney in the first round (quarterfinals), and SauroN beat Michael From. Then, I beat SauroN in the next (semifinals). [Frown] We team members had to beat it eachother all the time. That wasn't very pleasant: taking the trip away from your friends. In the semifinal, our german member lost to the Dark T-Tar guy. Then it was me VS him.

We played best out of 3 for the finals. We were finished around 1 AM. I lost my first match, but won the two next. That means I am the European Professor Champion.
[Cool]

I'll post more later, and update the website. Watch this space!
