The smell of freshly ground coffee fills the air of this Seattle household. The Dark figure moves from its computer room to the Lap Top on the kitchen table. A Maple Bar on a napkin awaits a fresh cup of coffee. The other three inhabitants of this house stare curiously after devouring their morning ration of “Babel” brand dog food. Today he’s working from home.

Beagle 1: He said it was a big weekend for them!
Beagle 2: Sure, sure they will be able to tell a lot from the numbers on the same day!
Beagle 1: He would like there to be time to get theirs out.
Mutt: That is always iffy. Last minute changes always happen.
Beagle 1: But it is possible. Something they have never seen.
Mutt: Not all of it. Some they have but have not.
Beagle 2: That does not make any sense! Things they have not seen but have seen?
Beagle 1: Some things they have not seen. Some things they have possibly seen but not seen yet.
Beagle 2: Where have they seen them then?
Mutt: You have seen! They constantly ask about them. Almost every time he sits down on Thursday they ask about them.
Beagle 1: Other places show them. You can find them everywhere. He has a whole set of them.
Beagle 2: Oh. I see. The ones with the funny writing.
Mutt: Yes. Well they may see something they have already seen only more of it first.
Beagle 1: Do you mean taken from many of them and put into less?
Mutt: Yes, you know many of the same thing but lots of them not there.
Beagle 2: That’s confusing.
Mutt: You think that’s confusing! Have you ever seen him try and explain how dynamic and complex business relationships work when you can’t talk about them?
Beagle 1: Yeah, sometimes he yells throws things.
Beagle 2: I saw him throw a Maple Bar once, he picked it up and dusted off most of the dirt and gave it to a player who gave him a hard time on a ruling. It was a peace offering. Sort of.
Mutt: Eew…he did not!
Beagle 2: No, but it’s a good story.
Beagle 1: I’m getting hungry again.
Mutt: Yeah, so am I. The food seems to be wearing off.
Beagle 2: You know what he said yesterday! He said that there would be Woof! more sets made this year. Yeah and that the next one is Skyridge, and then Woof, and Woof!
Beagle 1: Are you Woofing! Me! Are they going to put Woof! In there?
Mutt: Oh yeah! And you should see what they made the Woof! out of for the next set! It’s Woof! Woof!
Beagle 2: Wow! Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!
Beagle 1: Woof! Woof! WOOF!
Mutt: WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!

Gee, I wonder what this all means.

Challenge series, so it would seem.

By the way, FTC:

A. Yes...Howl all day...like my Beagles! [Ed.Note: This is because Entei's power takes effect "when coming into play from your hand", whereas Magby's Sputter does not affect such powers until the card is actually "in play". See "Sputter" for more details.] (May 30, 2002 WotC Chat, Q418)

"Babel"...possibly a reference to the online language translator Babelfish?

Beagle 1: But it is possible. Something they have never seen.

Like the VENDING set, perhaps? We've only seen a few of those cards.

Could DMTM have a set of vending? - yes. Funny writing - beagle's view of Japanese.

Maybe a reference to how the SBZ was cool, and now we players want more events. [Smile]

MMMMm so from what I get the next two sets are called Woof , That is a wired name for Pokemon sets, but hay if they pass the patten for the names(Which MTM said takes sometime to get names patten), then I guess WOTC can name them what every they want, I still buy it.

GLB

PS. I hope you all know I am joking and I really dont believe the next set would be called Woof.

Vending or a set that combines Vending with some WotC made cards certainly seems like a possibility! It may be that WotC needs a set to fill the gap between the e-cards and the Advance cards. If that means we get a set like the above, that would be great!! [Bounce]

I think this one is a candidate to end up in the legendary post thread.

He gets like this occasionally - I think it's Gengars equivalent of sugar-shock from too many Maple Bars... [Dubious]
But we have a lot of fun trying to figure what he's ranting about...
I think pretty much everyone got it all except maybe for the last part -
Beagle 1: Do you mean taken from many of them and put into less?
Mutt: Yes, you know many of the same thing but lots of them not there.

I think this is in reference to combining sets in their effort to catch up to the Japanese releases. I think there will be an additional set between Skyridge and the later release of ADV. This will be the long-awaited Wizards set which has *some* Wizards designed cards (rumor has it that some were designed/drawn by some well-known fake card affecionados) and some are vending cards.
And yes the Babel dog food wears off so we don't get the set names - but I wouldn't be surprised if the choice of dogs (beagle 1&2, mutt??) didn't have something to do with it since all conversations before have been with Gengar & Sneasel.
Just my .02...

hmm... something I was thinking about when I read this earlier... I was thinking about the past 'modest proposals' by dmtm... when does he seem to write these up? When wizards is going to do something different (or from what I know of)... such as, remember the Legendary Collection one for example? So it’s got to be something out side the box, something unusual he wants to tell us but he cant directly. I think possibly the wizards set idea is in the right direction... but Challenge series seems too natural to be the main point... hmm.. maybe the part about working at home has something to do with it (or its just setting the stage -_-)...

Three dogs. They are obviously Raikou, Entei and Suicune, Pokemon's "three legendary dogs".

Beagle 1 He said it was a big weekend for them!
Beagle 2: Sure, sure they will be able to tell a lot from the numbers on the same day!
Beagle 1: He would like there to be time to get theirs out.

Super BattleZone was a big day for "them", the players. Now DMTM is waiting for the number of participants, which he will get from the Organizers and Professors very soon. When he's got those numbers, he can show them to people high up in Wizards and convince them that Pokemon is still hot, and that the Challenge Series can start.

Mutt: That is always iffy. Last minute changes always happen.

Hmm... what last minute changes – the Unlimited/Modified format change? I doubt it. This is more likely to be connected to the Challenge Series.

This is obvious. The players will get some kind of tournaments they’ve never seen before. It might be that it won’t be called “Challenge Series” anymore, but maybe be like Magic’s Pro Tour?

Beagle 2: Where have they seen them then?
Mutt: You have seen! They constantly ask about them. Almost every time he sits down on Thursday they ask about them.

Thursday = Wizards chat. What do we ask about? Challenge Series. Always.

Vending cards. No doubt.

Mutt: You think that’s confusing! Have you ever seen him try and explain how dynamic and complex business relationships work when you can’t talk about them?

Our questions he can’t answer, like “where is the dot code printed”, “why does Wizards....”, “how does Wizards”

I would also like to throw stuff at the players sometimes. Ditto rulings, etc...

Woof! WOOF!
Mutt: WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!

He can’t say the names of the sets, so he replaces the names with the word “Woof”. Can’t be said anything more about that.
