I saw the topic regarding printing the Compendium, and a few people mentioned loading into a PDA. I also do that, so I thought I would post some instructions for those who have Palm devices and would like to load it. Having the ability to search is very useful!

The easiest way I've found to read on the Palm is the free AportisDoc reader, which you can get from tucows (or elsewhere) at
This Link

Install the AportisDoc reader on your Palm Device. Then, you need to convert the Compendium to AportisDoc format. The easiest way to do that is to use the free service at pilot.screwdriver.net. This can convert any HTML page to a PRC file that can load installed on the Palm device.

Here is a URL to automatically convert the Compendium:

Go Here compendium

Note: This direct hyperlink won't work because it is too long. You should create a shortcut or favorite for this link.

Running this URL will cause your browser to download the PRC file. Save it somewhere, then use the Palm install tool to install it on your device. When you open AportisDoc, you'll see the compendium as a document! It's about 257K.

I hope this helps!

[edit]Just shortened the link names so that the browser would fit on the screen.Good job and thanx for the info.-`Sensei[/edit]

Another conversion freeware program is iSilo: www.isilo.com . This is the program I use, which IPGeek pointed me towards. I believe iSilo is also Mac-compatible, for you Mac users out there.

You save whatever document you want in Word, as a web page, then run it through the iSilo converter; then load to your PDA the next time you sync.

Hope this helps! [Smile]

I use ISilo Free to read DOC files on my PalmPilot.

I have all the card spoilers converted, as well as the rules compendium.

I find that the converter at poormojo.org does a much better job at handling HTML conversions than the screwdriver.net one. I also use BigDoc to edit the doc files on my PC before hotsync.

Thanks for the info--will be using the first conversion method, should I use a Palm. Otherwise, I'll just use my college's nearly unlimited paper supply and kill a small forest.

Tempo Stratoblaster, NICE SIG! We should meet IRL...

What, like the pro-archetype attitude is supposed to be restricted to THIS company, and THIS TCG?
All card games run on archetypes. Magic is 90% archetypes. YGO is 90% archetypes. Pokemon was, for the most part, all archetypes before and during MF2. Pokemon will be archetype-based during MF3. Pokemon will be archetype based when it is under Nintendo.

Viva la unoriginality!

How much is a reliable (but not overly fancy, since this would be my sole reason for buying it) PDA cost?

This past summer, I bought a "refurbished" Handspring Visor with 8mg RAM and a black and white display for $100 from my local Fry's. I have the normal address book/calendar type entries in it, plus the DCI Floor Rules, Pokémon Floor rules, Compendium, Master Rulings, Penalty Guidelines, etc. in it and maybe have used up 20 - 25% of the available RAM.

I would definately look for something running the Palm OS, and with a minimum 8 mg memory; though a color display is nice, it will run up the cost (and decrease your battery life between charges).

My Visor runs on regular AAA batteries, which means I can replace them myself; other PDAs which have rechargable batteries require that you: 1) remember to "dock" them, so they can recharge (and then remember to take it off the desk or whatever when you leave; I can just keep my Visor in my purse when I'm not doing a sync); and 2) need a service call when the battery finally needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, SD_PokeMo.

If I can find one that is only $100, then it is doable. Anyone seen somehting like PokeMom has for less?

$100 seems to be the bottom on the PDA's. I purchased a Palm 100 a couple of months ago, it has 4 meg and I noticed that Best Buy doesn't sell that one anylonger but has the 10X for $124. You might also ask around folks are ugrading to the color units all the time and I would think you could pick up a used 8meg palm for $25 to $50.

I looked on BestBuy.com and found an M100 for $100 - $25 rebate.

I haven't used one of these, so I don't know if it comes with everything you need or not. I'm still using my Palm IIIc. [Love]
