The state of pokemon outside the US is tenuous

I hear you UKPOKEMONPRO but my feeling is that it is tenuous in the US and worse where you are...

I feel like we are a hair's breadth away from losing support like MTM & DMTM & MT Pat. These guys have all been re-assigned variously over the last year and we're lucky they're still w/ PKMN in the US.

Note well the schedules for Stadium Challenge, and info about Worlds & GenCon. Oh, I guess our situaiton is tenuous.

Seems like your guy in UK wanted to get with the program, or why would he return calls, correspond, etc. Early on is the time to start stonewalling if you intend to do so from the start. I would guess that people up the chain are failing him. Now, being an employee, if he starts saying that, the axe falls! So, silence falls...

I could be way off the mark above and missed some details in the saga, such that was a completely ridiculous statement above. If so, just let me have it.

<Speculation Value="#000000">
I'd like to know, how is Hairy 'poster doing? Just had a movie out and yet it seems to be slipping on some websites? What about the PRO sports products (heard they were on the ropes last year)? So, the emphasis seems to be on internal brands. Other than magic, which of those is going well? Hmm, maybe the resources that aren't going to Pokemon aren't going there because there is NOT ENOUGH obligation in the contract to do so? I imagine (PURE speculation) that there are obligations to the PRO leagues and Harry Potter author for licensing...maybe Hasbro overcommitted on payouts there, and just can't commit the resources because they're desperate for the other lines to balance, while Pokemon just kind of sells. </Speculation>

I'm hoping that things go from tenuous to solid in the US. This is the first game I've enjoyed in 20 years. There are a zillion ways to play it & collect it. I play with my whole family and have met a lot of fun folks that also play. I play also because we get great technical support through this board, the chat & wizards.

I'm hoping things go from on the brink to better where you are... if it does it will be in large part to your and the other TO/Professor efforts. Why won't they meet you half way? Above is pure speculation on the brands, but I'm guessing something is wrong above your local office. Right now, I don't think anyone who talks to us has any traction to fix that. The only course if that is right, is to help your local guy persist and be as creative & patient with him as with your players. Perhaps his appeals will be heard.

tenuous, your new favorite word, bulbasnore? I prefere to think that pokemon has a footholdi the US, it is still ranked one of the top 5 card games to play. Wizards needs to be more reassuring. Blind faith isn't enough for most of us when money is on the line. It is more for the soul.

foothold? OK, fair enough. Ever do mountain climbing? Maybe you get better footholds than I do... [Blush]

Yes, its nice to have PKMN be among the top 5. I'd love to see where the rest rank...particularly the other in-house brands of WOTC. Even nicer is that we still have some very dedicated support people who are not totally undercut by their leadership. They have brought about...and I think each of these things comes right from their level: Professor Program (to keep 15+ and the game afloat during hard times), some much more high quality theme decks, continued online contact (and expanded if you count the professor list), Super Battlezone, Delegate program. Frankly, I'm amazed. I think I've left something out. I don't know if their leadership is being much more helpful; obviously, they've done a job in selling their program such that someone is willing to listen. Bravo MTs.

, status in this country (U.S.A.) if foothold. Status in Japan seems: Strong (lots of content still emerging).

Now, what about the other countries status? Seems like it is foothold in some parts of Europe, toehold or no hold elsewhere. Anyone know about China, South America (what is up with no more Spanish translation)? Australia seems dormant from one player's comments. One of the things that is great about this game is that it is international...

I believe that yugioh and magic are racing for first. Pokemon is most likely in third with yugioh stealing players. Yugioh's gameplay isn't as fun as it first was. Plus, too many people cheat (play no tributes? there is no such thing! You have too tribute). I think Mage & Knight is in there too, even if it isn't a card game, it counts.

A big Thank You to all those who understand the plight, tenuous foothold, fingerhold, grip we have on Pokemon outside the US.

We have been fighting for 4 years in the UK and I hope you never have to experience the pain. Lee is trying to help us over here and things have seemed to be getting better at times... But the one thing that must happen is WotC UK delivering what they promised.

The future with Ruby and Sapphire just about to hit could be really great.. let's all work to make it so .. and WotC that includes you
