Now that the Delegate program is underway, I thought we could share a bit about our visits to the stores we contact as Pokemon Delegates. Maybe we can share some ideas that will help as we visit additional stores. I'll start:

I made my first visit to a store that ran League last season. They had not heard of Battle Zone, and were convinced that Pokemon was not popular enough to bother with any more. When I explained how the kits were designed to allow he store to do as much or as little as they wanted, and that the price per kit was very low, the manager said she would talk to their WotC representative about trying at least one. Not a rousing vote of support, but maybe she will like this new format and start up OP for Pokemon again. In any case, I enjoyed the fact that this is a way for us to do something that directly supports the game we love.

Good Luck Delegates!!! [Bounce]

Well, Prof. Warbuzz and I went last week to Magic Sports Cards for some pre-Delegate scouting and they accepted BattleZone right away without any hesitation.

I was like [Eek!]

And now that I have the Delegate Kit, I'll head back there to confirm that they will run 'Zone, get the seasion schedule set, and make sure that they've called Wizards (and make sure they have all the appropiate info as well).

Dragon King in St. Peters/St. Charles Said YES! Now on to the next two stores, hopefully this Battlezone, like a disease will spread and infect the game once again!

I head to the Silver Snail on Queen St/Toronto/Canada, They are too busy for the Pre-X'mas sale. I do not try to talk to them yet and I will come back after X'Mas.

I also talk to my good friend Dolly in Toronto/Canada. The store already run the Battle Zone but very confuse on how to run this. The owner complain too many paper work. I explain to him on how to do. Also another professor could help him to organize sanction tournament. I offer help if another professor is busy. He feel more comfortable and will try to sanction some tournament.

I am planing to visit 401 Convience in Toronto. This store used to run the Pokemon league but I was told that they stop the league already. If 401 do not run the BZ, I will try a nearby store which I forget the name.

I hope I can bring in some new store for the BZ.

I just went to 401 Convience in Toront/Canada in my lunch time. The owner very happy on hearing new Pokemon program from WOTC. He is very interest to run the BZ.

I get positive feedback from both the visits.

But I ask myself, "Do I steal the store from other Delegate?"

The original store I submit for Delegate program is Silver Snail. But due to X'mas shopping period, they are too busy to talk with. Than I go to another 2 stores. For those 2 stores, I don't know if any other delegate plan to visit.

If there are other professor plan to visit those store while submit the delegate application, I feel very sorry to "Steal" the store.

The problem is, I have no way to get the list of store which delegate plan to visit. MTM once mention this list in the Chat but I never see the list.

Any idea?

I visited Newnan Sports Cards in Newnan GA (my first stop.) The owner had already showed interest in starting BZ up when we spoke previously, so I think he was already sold on the idea. So far so good here. I'm going to try some stores I'm not as familiar with in the coming weeks.

I visited New Dimensions Comics in Cranberry PA. They still run weekly Pokemon League but the number of attendees is down to about 10. They're getting at least 20 kids immediately after for Yu-Gi-Oh. This store had trouble getting league supplies last year, a fact which they believe contributed to declining league attendence. But, given the low cost of Battlezone, they'll likely order 1 kit per season and run it as a league. Little prospect for tourney's unless Ruby/Sapphire perk up interest again. By the way, did anyone get an oversized card in their Delegate kit. I didn't.

Already had American Comics and Cards in the bag so I went to two other stores, one was too busy to talk at this time of the year (even tho I called first to make appt). The other *can* not run BZ for the strangest reason I've heard - the Firemarshall won't let them! This store is a smallish comic and card place located in a medium sized mall. They didn't have the store space so they ran it in the mall area right outside their doors. Great for visibility as mall visitors could stop and watch the kids play. Apparently the Firemarshall figured they would get in the way if there was a stampede for a fire or something. Sheesh. You haveta wonder about some of the lame-o excuses you hear...

Well I hit my 2nd store on the way home friday (1st was in the bag since I run tourny there every Sunday) They showed a real interest at Interzone in starting a league up again. I offered to help with paperwork and Judging, So Interzone in Gresham OR should be a sign up! As well as Mt Hood Cards & Comics in Sandy OR! That is 2 for me and 8 more to go. My goal is to get into 10 stores. [Embarrassed] ) [Smile]

I have a question, I believe that WotC will be following up with the stores that show interest correct? That is what I'm telling the store owners that WotC will be calling them if they are interested.

so far so good. i visited the warlords den and the lebanon valley mall. the den already runs b.z. but the mall did not..well they are gonna now!!!!
if anyone tries wal-mart, they will get turned down.....it must come from their corporate office, the individual stores can not run it on their own.

Went to two stores -- a KB toys and Caputo's sports cards at Century III Mall. KB was too busy (only person in entire store was the manager) -- going back after the holiday...and Caputo wasn't interested. =/

What, like the pro-archetype attitude is supposed to be restricted to THIS company, and THIS TCG?
All card games run on archetypes. Magic is 90% archetypes. YGO is 90% archetypes. Pokemon was, for the most part, all archetypes before and during MF2. Pokemon will be archetype-based during MF3. Pokemon will be archetype based when it is under Nintendo.

Viva la unoriginality!

I went to Crazy Cat Comics in Manhattan Beach. This place had a rippin' year 1 & 2 league with a lot of the locals being either STS champs, T8 or high DCI ranked players (and a lot of kids/pokeparents). After Year 2 they discontinued due to 1) players not buying packs and 2) kids blocking customers by playing in the aisles (and continuing to do so when asked to move). This is really a great shop. I spoke with one of the owners who was interested and will think about it for the new year. A tourney format seemed more appealing, perhaps because the tourney folks (they allowed a few tourneys) left a good impression.

Well, since I already run a league ( and now Battle Zone) at my local Books a Million, and the kids there are a small but loyal group. that is what I will do on Saturday. However, I do have a local card shop that will do a Battle Zone on Sunday, so I will try that for a while and see how it does. I have one other card shop that will do it, but they want to do it the same time slot ( 10 am Sat.) as I already am comitted to at BAM. But I have had a good reaction so far from the places I've visited.

Pretty good reaction.I am a U.K. master prof and I visited Battlenet in Norwich,Norfolk. They have agreed to take on board Battlezone and we will be kicking things off on Tuesday 20 Jan at 7.00 pm (although it might have to be a non Battlezone tournament as I have not got the Battlezone kits yet from the good old Wizards U.K. office!)

We are meeting with Lee on Moday Martin and I will raise the issue of BZ kits for you and the rest of us there.

We ran our first BZ in Rainham last night response was good and Winner Promo went down very well.

Looks like the UK is about to join the BZ club...

I went to the local game store here in Ann Arbor, I had spoken to him about hosting tourneys. As long as he didnt have to do anything hard I had him about to agree. He liked the kit and the price. He just has a habbit of letting his stock of game cards run out before ordering more, (any game) The asst mngr was also interested in having "organized " play in magic. Seemed top me from some folks there that they would welcome wizards sponsored play with promo awards and rankings from DCI etc. I hope the manager was listening!

Report is on the way, I will stop in today and ask about the aquaopolis set and get him to get some ordered with the BZ kit

As I reported down in the Tournament Forum, there is a new place close by me called Games Galore that just opened up a few weeks ago,so you know I just had to delegate it... [Evil Smirk]

The manager I talked to seemed kinda interested but was hesitant due to a bad incident with a Level 3 DCI judge in the past. After talking for a bit,it seemed promising. Now,it`s up to WotC to do the rest.(I`m going to also chip in and go back there doing what I can to show the positives of running Pokemon events...)

you've had better luck than i have....

i went to the store i'd applied to talk to, they used to have playing areas there but now they're filled in with merchandise....and as soon as i said 'pokemon' they said 'no interest in this area' and that was the end of that. [Frown] i didn't even manage to get a store stamp.

now that it's been extended, i'm hoping to just head into white plains next week and try a few stores in that area, borders, tru, a comic and card store. i did talk to a few people at the pokemon center, they said they're going to run it. i'm still trying to talk them into doing a weeknight tournament, in addition to the sunday league that i can never attend.

the alternate realities reaction was disheartening to say the least....hm.....perhaps i need a new approach....
