These questions concern Fossil Ditto. For all, assume that Ditto's power is active,

1. Situation: Ditto is in play with a Double Colorless Energy (or other Energy card that provides Colorless), Ecogym is in play, and the opponent uses (Super) Energy Removal. Question: What happens to the Double Colorless? Does it:
a) get discarded (since the card itself provides Colorless Energies, which Ecogym can't affect)?
b) return to the hand (since, while it is attached to Ditto, it can be treated as other types)?

2. Situation: Ditto vs. Rocket's Zapdos, Ditto uses Electroburn by re-typing energies, but has no actual Lightning Energy cards attached. Question: How is it figured out how much self-damage Ditto does, if no other cards in play would affect it? Is it determined by:
a) the number of actual Lightning Basic Energy cards attached to Ditto, which would make the self-damage 0?
b) the number of (L) Energy Ditto is using for the attack, which would make the self-damage be at least 30, or 40 if the player with Ditto chooses (i.e. to activate a Gold Berry)?
c) the number of Basic Energy cards attached to Ditto and being used to provide (L) Energy? For example, if the Energy cards attached to Ditto are, say, Water Energy + Water Energy + Double Colorless Energy, this scenario would make the self-damage 20 or 10, depending on how the Energy is re-typed.

[BTW, when an actual Rocket's Zapdos uses Electroburn, does the self-damage count only actual (L) Energy cards attached, or also cards that are not technically (L) Energy cards but are providing (L) Energy?]

3. Ditto is up against a (L) type Pokemon, and a Lightning Cube 01 is attached to it. How would it be determined how many/which Energy cards to discard from Ditto if the Discharge attack is used? Is it:
a) all Energy cards attached to Ditto that are providing (L) Energy, which would make it at least 1, and up to as many as Ditto has, by its player's choice?
b) all Basic Energy cards attached to Ditto providing (L) Energy?
c) all actual Lightning Basic Energy cards attached to Ditto?

--------------------
Every time I think I can't say anything stupider, I prove myself wrong. Maybe I should just stop thinking.

It depends on what Ditto's Player had declared the Energy to be. Unlike Rainbow Energy which always provides all colors, Ditto's Player gets to choose what colors are provided. So, if colored energy had been chosen, it would return to the Player's hand. If however, Ditto was up against a colorless pokemon and his player didn't bother to announce a color choice, the DCE would go to the discard

c is the correct answer. Electroburns specifies the number of L energy cards, not L energy

[BTW, when an actual Rocket's Zapdos uses Electroburn, does the self-damage count only actual (L) Energy cards attached, or also cards that are not technically (L) Energy cards but are providing (L) Energy?]
cards that provide L energy are considered to be L energy cards, unless "Basic L Energy cards" were specified, which is not the case here. So Rainbow Energy or cards changed by Porygon2 would count in calculating damage

3. Ditto is up against a (L) type Pokemon, and a Lightning Cube 01 is attached to it. How would it be determined how many/which Energy cards to discard from Ditto if the Discharge attack is used? Is it:

b) all Basic Energy cards attached to Ditto providing (L) Energy?
c) all actual Lightning Basic Energy cards attached to Ditto?
a is the correct choice. Even if two L energies are attached, they player can choose one of them to provide a different color and not get discarded.

Oopsie, I misread your response Pop. It's all good, but here's a ruling from the Compendium anyway for more support.

Q. If Ditto with 2 DCE is facing a Rocket's Zapdos, do the DCE's count as L Energy CARDS (assuming it declared them to be L Energies) for the sake of Electroburn's self-damage? If so, that means Ditto will take 20 self-damage (10 per card), right?
A. Correct, 20 is the answer. (Feb 15, 2001 WotC Chat, Q8)
