This is something that has bothered me ever since pokemon TCG first came out. Im not sure if anyone else shares my views or not, but here they are anyway...
I dont feel that the pokemon that are portrayed as "legendary" in the games, TV show and movies or even in the flavor texts of their cards, are actually made into powerful or useful enough cards.
When i first bought pokemon cards the week the game out, i bought 15 boosters or so. In those boosters i got a Charizard and Mewtwo. Having played the GB game, i expected mewtwo to be 1 of the best cards in the game. Then i saw that the charizard would demolish mewtwo no contest. I realize that charizard, and other 2nd stage evolutions need to made balanced for risk vs. reward, but the legendary pokemon didnt compare.
This trend has continued, and rarely do i see legendary pokemon used in decks. A few cases where they are used, are in EntCargo decks, and non holo suicune as just a stalling card. Rarely is a mewtwo, mew, raikou, zapdos, articuno, moltres, celebi, or suicune used in a deck.
When i saw the shining cards, that is sorta how i expected the legendary pokemon to me (more play friendly though). Very powerful basic pokemon that were limited 1 to a deck due to their strength.
I kinda hope that legends in the future are made a little more legendary.
Thanks for your time, and i wouldnt mind hearing other's opinions

They're all bad... Just because they do heavy damage, faster is better, and they're not...

I assume you are talking about the shining pokemon as being slow, but doing a lot of damage? Thats why i put the "more play friendly" in parenthesis...The point was, basic pokemon, high HP, extremely powerful attacks that are reasonably fast, but have some side effects, but only 1 per deck.

Actually, some "legendary" cards are pretty cool, IMO. For example, one of my latest favorites is Rocket's Mewtwo. THAT'S about what I would expect of a Mewtwo card. With a Focus Band and enough Energy, it can demolish pretty much any Pokemon. You are right, though, that Stage 2's are usually much better in terms of pure power. However, they do have two balancing factors-- they are Stage 2's, and therefore a little harder to put into play, and they are usually very expensive in terms of Energy.

Look at Mewtwo's stats in the Pokemon Game.
Now, in the Pokemon game, Mewtwo is broken pert near Sneasel Status. You want that sort of thing in the TCG? Sneasel itself broke the enviroment, that's why it was banned from Modified. You want even more of these around?
And who's to say they aren't good?
Promo Mewtwo, Holo Entei, Fossil Moltres, Rocket's Zapdos, Rocket's Mewtwo... They do QUITE well with the correct strategy. [ April 10, 2003, 05:48 PM: Message edited by: Maverick Hunter Zero ]
