All right, here's the question....
Can Muk's Toxic Gas be shut off by (ND) Igglybuff's Gaze? My guess is since Iggly's power is shut off and can't affect Muk.
The only reason that I hesitate on this is on the general/specific issue. Many of the recent rulings (especially with Poke-Powers vs Poke-Bodies) seem to say the more specific and narrow power will prevail over the general gameplay powers.
Thoughts? The Compendium doesn't seem to address this, probably because everybody assumes that Muk's general power prevails over all.
I had considered putting an Iggly in a deck, but probably won't if the consensus is it can't shut off Muk. Iggly is a card that seems to fallen into disuse since SlowKing disappeared from Modified play. Can it have a future with Muk?

Iggly's Gaze is ignored.

I don't see how you could. Toxic Gas is a continuous power. Gaze is a once during your turn power. Generally the former beats the latter. Besides, you can't use Goop Gas Attack to stop Dark Vileplume, so why should this be any different? Sorry, I just can't see it happening.

The main difference I can see is that in the Iggly/Muk case, Gaze is an owner's-turn-only targeted effect versus an effect that is not only global, but disables, that is, prevents other powers. In the other cases, you are usually dealing with two always on effects that replace eachother but don't shut eachother off.

The best way to answer this should be to look at the exact text of Toxic Gas. From the Oracle: quote: Pokémon Power: Toxic Gas Ignore all Pokémon Powers other than Toxic Gases. This power stops working while Muk is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed. [Fossil] Pokémon Power: Toxic Gas Ignore all Pokémon Powers other than Toxic Gases. This power stops working while Muk is affected by a Special Condition. [Legendary Collection]
Now, as I understand the rulings, any Power with the words, "When you put [this Pokemon] into play from your hand," (or a similar phrasing) still occurs. So, any Power not named Toxic Gas that occurs at any time other than the moment you put the Pokemon into play is ignored. Gaze is a Power, is not named Toxic Gas, and activates after Iggly has been put on the field. Therefore, it can't be used.
-------------------- Every time I think I can't say anything stupider, I prove myself wrong. Maybe I should just stop thinking.
