OK.. so I hear a LOt of good stuff about this Bee, and have seen many scans of it to see what's so great about it, and from my point of view, this isn't so great of a card: it's power only works if Kakuna is active, and its attack is EXACTLY like the Discovery Scyther's Fury Cutter, so what makes this card so good?

First , the atack costs which makes it very quick and it can fit decks that doesn't use grass (try putting in a lightning deck to give yourself something to fight back against those lightning resistence pokemon which most if not all are weak to grass (I personally put a ND caterpie ) ) Second , Do this : Have a kakuna in your bench and wait for the right time (strong pokemon) and then retreat your active for kakuna and evolve him BOOM! the defending pokemon is piosoned and paralyzed so he won't run away to heal himself . Beedrill retreat cost is 0 so you can then retreat him for your'e very own strong pokemon an attack his defending .
Third , scyther can do 10,20,30,40 or 90 with . Beedrill does 10,20,30,60 or 100 for .

ok... so what really makes this card is the power and free retreat... otherwise it's a Stage 2 Scyther. (10 more damage)

What makes him so great, is that with careful use of Trainers, you can use his Power every turn, leaving your opponent almost helpless. The only way to get out of it is to use switching/healing Trainers/Energy, or resort to only attacking when one of tour Pokemon has been KO'ed.

The real trick with Beedrill is that you have to have lots of support cards to keep Venom Spray going multiple times. I used a straight Beedrill deck in the Origins Professor Challenge to counter all the Gatr/Sect decks I saw the previous two days. It paid off. I went 5-0 with it. I faced 3 Gatr decks. However, I was lucky enough to also beat two Metal decks (1 Kabutops/Steelix and 1 Scizor/Furret) because my opponents both weren't quite familiar with how to take out my Beedrill deck.
I'm finding that too many players are trying to add tech cards to Beedrill decks to counter its weaknesses. I too tried some of those techs, including the Starmie idea to counter Scizor and fire, but soon found that the Venom Spray ability diminished signfigantly. So, I built my Beedrill with the idea of taking out just about everything except big fire and heavy metal. Maybe someday, someone will figure out how to beat those decks with Beedrill, but I doubt it.
FYI, I posted my Origins report here with my Beedrill decklist if you're interested.
