There powers saw when you attach a fire/water energy card from your hand, so if I played a rainbow energy card then there would be no discarding right?

Correct, not so much because 'card' is specified, but because Rainbow or Crystal Energy cards don't provide colored energy until after they are attached.

Here is a twisted sort of question, posted here since it was the same topic, kinda.
Can the water energy you attach to one of them be the same energy you discard? In other words, an easy way of getting energy in the discard pile for use during attacks or like Recharge from Typhlosion. LMK

Yes (at least for Suicune, i'd have to read the Entei). Suicune i know states to attach the W energy and then discard an energy. So you could attach a W energy card and then you have to discard it.

Hope Raikou will do the same thing. Then I can get early discard lectric for my lectrode deck.
yes, place w/r energy on Suicune/Entei, then discard.
