I searched for this but couldn't find it anywhere ...
My question is: If A card reads "discard two X energy cards to use this attack", and I use rainbow energy to pay the cost (number) must I discard the rainbow energy card in order to use the attack?
The reason I ask, is becasue Rainbow Energy says it PROVIDES the type of energy, but the attack says discard the CARD.
I believe we had a ruling that a poke-power which changed an energy type's to DARK did not allower the attacker to inflict extra damage, as it was the DARKNESS ENERGY CARD that inflicted the extra 10hp.
Therefore, shouldn't I take the literal reading of "Discard 2 X energy cards" to mean that I do NOT have to discard the rainbow energies?

No, a card that provides a type of energy counts as a card of that type. So the card would be discarded. The effects of energy is a completely unrelated discussion.
