I'm planning to build a gengar deck, but first I have to decide which version of gastly, haunter and gengar I should use before I post my deck in the deck forum. For gastly I would definitely go with fossil/LC gastly, simply because of it's hp and attacks. For haunter, I'm not sure. The LC one, I think it is a rare card and pretty hard to get. For gengar, I think the SR one is the best because it has a good attack. But other gengars have good pokemon power. Any suggestions?

I like to run a mix of Gengars in my favorite Gengar deck, but it really matters as to what your deck strategy is. If you're looking to move damage counters, then I'd say stick with the the LC and EX Gengars, but I also think the LC and SR Gengars pair up nicely. Use LC to move damage early and then finish 'em off with SR. I like both the EX and SR Haunters for their relatively high hit points and attacks.

IMO the best haunter is the fossil one. It has a built in copy-baby power and has 50 hp and resistance to fighting. Free retreat too. I think it can also put your opponent to sleep and do 10 damage too. I don't know what the other haunters do, but it can't be that better.

If you use Special Energy in your deck, LC/Fossil Gastly is the best. It returns 2 energy cards to your hand and does 10 to itself, not bad if it lets you get back whatever cards you need. Best Haunter is the Fossil One. Best Gengar is probably the LC/Fossil one.

Actually, I would recommend putting in a couple of Destiny Bond Gastlys, too. They're good stallers with that attack; specially if you're up against a Charizard or something.

He could use base set Gastly, asumming this is not a modified deck, remember they brought back the Fossil line for LC (much to my suprise)

For Gastly go with base set. he should be able to hold your opponent off from attacking with Destiney Bond till you drw some Haunters and Gengars. Fossil Haunter tends to be good, but I'd mix in some base too. I only know abilities for Fossil Gengar though so go with whatever for him.

Base gastly only has 30Hp and the effect of destiny bond goes away when either pokemon switches.
