I went and played at my first (of many) Pokemon League game. But I was only able to play a short while.
Anyways, when I was playing, my opponent said when it came to a coin toss, I had to let it hit the table. He said I couldn't catch it and flip it over.
Is this correct?
Also, after looking at the floor rules, why is the Legendary Collection cards allowed in modify play, but not the base and other sets?
I'm a little confused on this, but maybe I did not find the explanation to this.
Help!

If a card from a banned set has been reprinted in a modified-legal set (promos included), then they are modified-legal. Saying that the sets are banned is just easier than listing off all non-reprinted cards.

I guess what I'm saying is, why is it banned?
And if they are being reprinted in modified-legal sets, why reprint them at all, if they are the same wording?
Just want to understand.

Banning older sets promotes sales of newer sets.

Let's see... Partially to even out the playing environment some... Partially because reprint sets sell extremely well... And I think there's some other stuff that I can't remember.

You may not touch the coin while in midair. Know how many people can toss a coin, catch it, and put it down so they get the results they want? A coin flip should lift and land on the table unimpaired by you or your opponent, otherwise the randomness of it could be corrupted. (Personally roll a 20 sided die).
Also Modified format allows only the cards from the past few sets to be played. LC is one of those sets allowed for play. Come Sept, people expect Modified to change again (it was last changed in January 2003 to exclude Genesis Slowking).

On the subject of Reprint sets and allowing their previous printings but not other old set cards: Reprinting only certain cards give WotC the power to pick and choose what is going to be allowed back into the Modified format. Some of the earlier cards are overpowered, if not broken. When older sets rotate out, it's nice to reintroduce some of their cards after a while or keep them in rotation because they enhance deck-building options.
